NZ weight lifter Tracey Lebrechts has had her nationsl records broken and her place in the National team taken by a male Laurel Hubbard - previously Gavin. How is this fair and just why is this allowed?

I posted an article somewhere, possibly this thread, showing that mice exposed to anabolic steroids (of which testosterone is one), then withdrawn, then 'retrained' showed the ability to build muscle mass far more quickly than non-exposed control mice. Their muscle cells showed structural changes in response to the steroid that were maintained throughout non-exposure and directly linked to their ability to rebuild mass.

A sample of skeletal muscle from Miss Hubbard would be very useful...

They're not men. Christ mumsnet is full transphobic idiots. It's the only thing I can't stand.

"It's the only thing I can't stand." Really? You're cool with racism, anti-semitism, misogyny, disablism?

I can't stand transphobia either. Discriminating against trans people or speaking about them in hateful terms is totally unacceptable.

I disagree that refusing to accept that trans women are women is transphobic hate speech. Transwomen are men, who may have had surgery, take hormones and dress differently to how men are expected to dress in our culture. That makes them trans women, not women.

This is one of the things that makes me angry about TRA is that not only are they throwing biological women under the bus they are throwing trans people who don't follow their agenda under the bus too. The only interests they care about are their own and they don't seem to care who suffers in the fall out.

I find it even more disturbing that whenever these threads crop up, MN always stays strangely quiet on the matter.

If even MN refuses too scared? to stick their neck out and stand up for us, who will?

brickinitIam · 20/03/2017 11:17

Standing up for Women's Rights, that should be.

Iran has 8 men/ transwomen on its football team (or did in 2015)
www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3255922/Dodgy-tackle-Eight-players-Iranian-women-s-football-team-actually-MEN-awaiting-sex-swap-operations.html

The sad thing is that in Iran homosexuality is punishable by death, but sex changes are allowed. So male homosexuals have the option of a sex change, death or exile.

Thought people may find this interesting

thenightsky · 25/03/2017 23:03

More publicity, more people reach peak trans and question.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 26/03/2017 10:30

I know that a lot of sports fans care about fair play and hate cheats. I live in hope that eventually the issue of transwomen in women's sports will become so blatant that fans will rise up in fury. However many sports fans aren't very interested in women's sports so it may take a depressingly long time.

What does anyone else think? I'm strikingly ignorant on sport, whether as a participant or as a viewer, so my opinion is uninformed.

Bambambini · 26/03/2017 12:40

I've followed some of the public reaction to this - vast majority of folk think it's ludicrous and disgusting. Same with friends I've discussed it with (all play competitive sports). folk i've seen defend it are Transwomen who often are competing against women themselves though i have seen a few TW criticise TW competing against women.
