To wonder how males are allowed to compete and win in female sports

NZ weight lifter Tracey Lebrechts has had her nationsl records broken and her place in the National team taken by a male Laurel Hubbard - previously Gavin. How is this fair and just why is this allowed?

It's a fantastic thread and apologise if I was part of the she said/she said debate just hate smug goadyness.

Again brilliant thread.

Keeptrudging · 07/03/2017 21:16

O.M.G. Just googled 'The Cotton Ceiling'. My brain is now officially fried. Cannot bloody compute.

rale124 · 07/03/2017 21:39

I have to laugh at some of the comments on here. You only have yourselves to blame.

You played 'Oppression Olympics' and lost because transacceptance is a flashier fad of the day than white middle class feminism for the progressives. Much the same as the 'a white gay man is still a white man' hashtags which got pretty popular late last year on twitter.

This is how identity politics dies, in a haze of bitter infighting and the destruction of solidarity among the sociological classes (LGBT, ethnic minorities, women) that benefit from traditional left wing politics.

But no double down, this is obviously a case of male sexual terrorism against the female sports community and not identity politics.

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/03/2017 21:47

Glad you find it amusing. How nice for you.

JapabSharted · 07/03/2017 21:48

Oppression Olympics sounds more fun than Monopoly. I'm totally creating a board game by Xmas 2017.

Gingernaut · 07/03/2017 21:49

does anyone know who rale124 is talking to?

Us? In general?

We haven't been playing 'Oppression Olympics', we've been playing WHERE'S THAT LEVEL PLAYING FIELD WE KEEP HEARING ABOUT??!

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/03/2017 21:51

It's definitely Identity Top Trumps rather than Olympics.

JapabSharted · 07/03/2017 21:56

You roll a dice. Land on Chance. The card says "your identity has been reassigned to anyone who wants it. Please proceed to the re-education square for mansplaining. Your next identity will be assigned when you have rolled a double seven."

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 07/03/2017 21:58

With community chest-feeding and right fucking chancer cards. And a "change to the jail of your chosen gender" card.

JapabSharted · 07/03/2017 22:02

Come and collaborate hedgehog. We've got a winner here.

Boomcack · 07/03/2017 22:04

What a joke, I feel sorry for this generations set of girls

rumblingDMexploitingbstds · 07/03/2017 22:06

.....uhm, try reading the thread and engaging with the real, significant issues being discussed? That's one massive red herring to call this all a bit of white feminist whining, not to mention a bit on the lazy side.

Tumble, excellent posting as always. Flowers

SymbollocksInteractionism · 07/03/2017 22:08

I have also just googled the cotton ceiling Shock

Doyouwantabrew · 07/03/2017 22:12

It's funny when thick and stupid men or journalists hear of a long running thread and post on mumsnet isn't it.

Op great thread may need to start a new one now.

MACaddict5 · 07/03/2017 22:15

I personally believe people have taken "fighting for equality" too far.

We should be embracing differences rather than making everything a level playing field. Not everything is equal!!!!!!!!!!

Doyouwantabrew · 07/03/2017 22:16

And obviously not the sensible long time posters

MACaddict5 · 07/03/2017 22:16

Soon there will just be a unisex team and the majority of female athletes and sportspeople will be kissing goodbye to their hobbies and careers. They'll no longer be good enough!

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 07/03/2017 22:18

Oh gawd, the bat signal's gone out.

scottishdiem · 07/03/2017 22:27

Out of interest - how many people do this? Trans and take part in sport? Its fairly horrific for those affected but I wonder if claiming entire generations are affected is a bit of a hyperbole.

I am not talking about the weird hate on Caster Semenya but the athletes like the one that started this thread.

TumbleTrans · 07/03/2017 22:35

Tumble, excellent posting as always

Thank you but I fear I may be a bit of a discussion killer Blush. Nobody ever directs me to where this so called transphobia is. Which is a shame because I would like to address it if there is any.

JapabSharted · 07/03/2017 22:56

Loads of cyclists esp this one en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelle_Dumaresq
I especially like the fact that the actual woman he beat into second place, Danika Schroeter received a suspension from the Canadian Cycling association because outraged boyfriend jumped up onto the podium and put a t shirt onto his girlfriend which said 100% Pure woman champ. So that was nice for Danika, to be cheated out of her gold and get suspended too.

That tennis player, Renee Richards
Fallon Fox
Lauren Jeska
This weightlifting guy from NZ
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mianne_Bagger

There's loads I think Scottishiem

Bambambini · 07/03/2017 22:57

If you seriously want to compete in sports , especially at a higher level - i think it could affect quite a few sports and the female competitors. I think if it happens a few times where the winner is a TW in a big event/well known sport- like Tennis or athletics then there would have to be a re-evaluation. Any articles or discussion I've seen - the majority are very much against this. In fact, men have been very vocal. Probably a good point to lobby MPs with for the upcoming self identity bill - this is one issue that shows the problems clearly.

There were enough female swimmers in Eastern Germany who could be persuaded (by what means, I know not, but I don't think they were outright coerced) to mess up their bodies by taking testosterone.

I do not think it impossible that some men will do it purely for the money and fame.

And since competing in women's sports is easy with the advantage of male musculature - males who would be at the end of their career in men's sports can still win medals that should have gone to women - the question is not how many males who can compete in professional men's sports will transition, the question is how many males in the general population will transition.

I think one should look at Iran for the maximum number of males who will transition given enough encouragement to do so.

Isn't most of their women's football team made up of males?

Gingernaut · 07/03/2017 23:23

Iran is a fundamentalist Muslim state that abhors homosexuality.

When someone is found to be having homosexual relationships, they're effectively coerced into having gender reassignment.

A large portion of Iranian trans-women are probably gay men.
