To wonder how males are allowed to compete and win in female sports

NZ weight lifter Tracey Lebrechts has had her nationsl records broken and her place in the National team taken by a male Laurel Hubbard - previously Gavin. How is this fair and just why is this allowed?

This graph is informative - it's world record weights vs. lifter's weight category, by sex. There is almost no overlap. It is only in the heaviest of the women's division that a woman record holder lifts more than a man in the lightest category.

To wonder how males are allowed to compete and win in female sports

Haven't RTFT but YANBU. It's happening at schools too. My dd does boxing, basketball, football and rugby. There's a 'transgirl' who is also on these teams. In practises dd has to go against this boy in boxing. To say they're part of the lgbt community, they're extremely homophobic. They called dd a 'piece of lesbian trash' and spat on her. Needless to say I reported. But he school does fuck all for fear of being 'transphobic'. Pisses me off and it's discouraging dd from carrying on and she's really good at sports.

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/03/2017 18:08

Tumbletrans I would be inclined to agree with ItsAllGoingToBeFine with regards to "you can't "identify as trans"" because I think part of the issue is that there are now people who identify as trans who are not gender dysphoric.

You shouldn't be able to identify as trans, IMO - it should be something which requires a diagnosis of dysphoria. But, in the way it is now being used I think it no longer means that and covers a hugely wide umbrella. I think that's a dangerous trend for everyone, including dysphoric trans individuals such as yourself.

Turquatic · 07/03/2017 18:14

What would happen if a male sex offender , say a PE teacher or sports coach , legally changed name/gender to female - would it be flagged up in a crb check or on the PNC?
If not, it has horrifying prospects for child protection and the safety of women in his workplace / public in general.
Biological sex should never be removed from official forms imho.

LumelaMme · 07/03/2017 18:21

Haven't RTFT.
Haven't the time or the energy. Have spent too much time on other trans threads today.

Can I just say:
I DO NOT HATE TRANS PEOPLE. I have a trans person in my near family who I love and cherish.

BUT
I am royally fucked off at the way that the term 'woman' is being redefined, and not by people with XX chromosomes either. I am royally fucked off that 'women's sport' is becoming an effing joke in which people with XX chromosomes will shortly have no fucking chance of succeeding.

And tumble, Flowers. I really hope life improves for you.

Yes that's what I was trying to say.

SanityAssassin · 07/03/2017 18:30

Women are second class citizens in so many ways - sport included. They tried to take Paula Radcliffes World Marathon record away from her because she was allegedly paced by a man - oh no pretty little flower couldn't have run that amazing time without male assistance...

Doyouwantabrew · 07/03/2017 18:32

You really don't like explaining your outrageous accusations with facts do you Trifle

Doyouwantabrew · 07/03/2017 18:33

Tumble

Good on you Flowers great post

Thingsgettingstranger · 07/03/2017 18:33

Someone should start a petition on the UK government petition website. 10,000 signatures are required for it to be reviewed by parliament and if it reaches 100,000 it will be debated. I think we could get quite a few signatures...

Thingsgettingstranger · 07/03/2017 18:34

Btw, the petition would be to create 2 new sports categories: MtT and FtT, not to erase them from sports.

Hellothereitsme · 07/03/2017 18:34

Turquatic. From research I have done this is the case. A person who has legally trans will have their previous records destroyed.

Yes huge consequences which a year ago before MN I didn't understand.

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/03/2017 18:37

Hellothere but for a DRB check (or whatever it's called these days) wouldn't they have to give their previous names, like someone who had changed their name by deed poll? And account for their whereabouts during their "previous" life?

Keeptrudging · 07/03/2017 18:38

Absolutely, it's unfair to deprive anyone of the chance to reach the top level in their sport, which is why the rules need to be in place to stop this happening to women, as well as allowing transwomen/men to compete against each other. When it comes to training together, I don't see a problem with non-contact sports, but competing is a different issue.

WobblyLegs5 · 07/03/2017 18:39

We need two categories in sports- those with testosterone level < 10 and those with testosterone level > 10

Ta's can't counter that & females are protected

SanityAssassin · 07/03/2017 18:41

Well they manage pretty distinct categories (urgh!) for Paralympics - maybe it's time mainstream went the same way?

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/03/2017 18:43

Testosterone isn't the only issue. A male high jumper who is 6ft 4in say, will still have that advantage over women despite lowering their testosterone, for example.

Thingsgettingstranger · 07/03/2017 18:49

I think the only way to make it fair is have a MtT category and FtT category, as well as biological male and biological female. Whether TA's would agree or not is another matter....

QuentinSummers · 07/03/2017 18:50

And yet, when transitioned to be a transwomen, they are suddenly international/Olympic standard and breaking records left right and centre.
Same could be said about that awful Layt person and many of the cyclists. It must be coincidence though Confused

QuentinSummers · 07/03/2017 18:51

The new gender identity bill is being debated on 23rd March. Rather than a petition, might be better writing/emailing/speaking with your MP ahead of this.

WobblyLegs5 · 07/03/2017 18:53

Tumble your pov is exactly why women/females (as well as transwomen/people with gender dysphoria) need your voice in the trans movement (and sorry if that sounds crass)

People who live the reality need to be telling aggressive ta's that the loss of female safety spaces and female language is 'all about women' and our issue not their's. I would 100% support trans discrimination and safety being made a priority, but the answer to this isn't eroding female safety (the little that we have).

WobblyLegs5 · 07/03/2017 18:56

Height advantage or disadvantage would be true of exceptionally tall females also. Less likely but not at all impossible. Lots of naturally tall athletes go into sports where their height is an advantage (or shorter athletes ie jockies) we can't ban that.

WankingMonkey · 07/03/2017 18:57

www.telegraph.co.uk/women/life/truth-female-sex-offenders/

Male crimes are screwing female figures too. Not long before women and men commit sexual/violent crime at the same rate as each other Hmm

Yet it is wrong for people to call out this bullshit?

Been thought through extremely well by the TAs/MRAs...

WankingMonkey · 07/03/2017 18:57

Oh, this was posted in the wrong thread BUT kind of fits here too Blush

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/03/2017 19:00

Wobbly I'm not suggesting banning tall athletes from the high jump, that wasn't what I was getting at. Are women as equally likely to be very tall as men?
