To ask your opinions on school reunions

School reunion is coming up. I can't go so it's a bit of a moot point really but I was interested how everyone else felt about these.

The people I like from school I have stayed in touch with - the only reason I'd go is to be nosy and see what everyone is doing (although with fb that's not hard to do...). I guess it could be a networking opportunity?

Did any of you re-connect with high school people at a reunion and end up being friends?

I would never, ever, ever go to one.

Not in a MILLION years.

I don't care about anyone I went to school with bar one person.

It was one of the worst times of my life. I wasn't bullied but it was a rough school in a bad area and it was filled with kids who were naughty at best and criminal at worst.

So no thanks! That's just me though and I'm aware a lot of people had quite a nice time at school...I agree though that it's a chance to size everyone up and compare.

Not for me. Just not interested in a school reunion.
I still speak to 6 people from my class at high school on a regular basis. The rest...I just don't care.

I went to mine, god almighty it was like the spanish inquisition. I keep in touch with some school chums and we meet up for lunch sometimes and visit when we have had a new baby, thats a nice alternative.

I went to one (for some stupid reason one gets organised every bloody year). It just made me realise how little I had in common with my former classmates now. I left after an hour. DH was the same at his.

Avoid avoid! I've been to one because friends persuaded me it would be fun, it wasn't.

Although in fairness most people were much nicer than I remembered them, and I'd imagine they thought the same about me. But the arseholes were still arseholes. And the people who came along and then insisted that they couldn't remember who anyone was and didn't even recognise their names. Yeah, right. If school was so completely off your radar, why would you be going to a reunion?

I always go to ours. It's nice to see folk I haven't seen in ages. I like the people I went to school with.

Didn't go to mine, was a bit awkward as my best friend organised it, but I had the valid excuse of a work do I couldn't get out of.

I am in contact with the people that I want to be, have no interest in the others. Social media has surely made the point of them redundant.

I hosted my primary school 10 years on reunion...
It was so empty
I thought it would be lovely as we were a happy bunch in a little village school, but despite a very positive Facebook response hardly anyone actually turned up.
I guess now I see why- no one likes reunions!

Aw Rixera that's sad I feel bad now. I think the issue with that is that people don't count a Facebook event acceptance as a genuine rsvp.

I was bullied relentlessly, to the point of being suicidal and it messing up a mental health condition i had, resulting in me having to drop out a year and a half early, become housebound and never been well enough to work.

Despite this there are some people i would like to see that i otherwise wouldn't get the chance to see again. So, i honestly think (assuming i actually stick to my healthier eating and lose some weight that i felt ok about how i looked) i would go.
Part of me would actually want to see my former bullies, see how they turned out, and hope they got more mature. I had 2 people who were friends contact me on facebook about a year ago apologising for how they treated me back in highschool, so i have no bad feelings toward them and it would be nice to say hi in person. I still have nightmares about certain bullies 13 years after i left, i think it would do me good to see them as regular people now, especially as most of them have kids of their own now and have probably grown up and realised how horrible they were. I'm also a completely changed person who would stick up for myself now, and if anyone did get nasty with me i'd tell them exactly what i thought of them and it would probably be quite theraputic.

Realistically though, i doubt my highschool will ever have a reunion. It was 10 years last year from what would have been "graduation" and nothing happened, tbh i think people are just too busy or don't care to see the randoms because with inventions like facebook everyone these days stays in touch with the people they knew and liked already so no need for reunions to reconnect.

I have kept in touch with a few friends from school and went to our 25 year reunion, I enjoyed the evening. It hasn't made any difference to my life in terms of new friends etc. Another ex pupil is arranging another, but I won't go to this one.

Mine was wonderful. Had so many great and honest conversations - it actually transformed my feelings about my schooldays as I realised how nice most of the people were (the scary ones didn't come!)

Fortunately I live hundreds of miles away from where I went to school, so have never been invited to one and have no contact with anyone I went to school with, thank god

I went to our ten year one (a LONG time ago!).

I went with my friend who had been bullied terribly for being overweight, braces, the whole bit.

She grabbed the karaoke mike and yelled out; 'I'm SKINNY. And MARRIED. And you all can FUCK OFF'.

As for me, I had just been employed on a consultancy for a job in New York. I had the girl who used to be the class mean girl come stalking up to me with her hands on her hips with her two wingmen on either side and hiss at me ; 'SO! I hear you are an international superstar'. I was taken aback and did not say anything so she followed that up with; 'Well, you're still a pathetic loser'. And she stalked off.

Hysterically funny really. Given we were all 28 or so and in theory had moved on from all that shit.

Not planning to go to another one (the next one is when I will be 48 in 5 years time).

I don't think we need reunions these days as everyone seems to be on facebook so people only need to look at what people are doing. Me and DH were in same school and year and don't really have interest in what others from school are doing minus our school friends. I thought school reunions were more an American custom

I went to one maybe 5 years after I left and found it quite awkward. I left school 20 years ago now and if a reunion were to come up now I wouldn't go. For me I've come to the conclusion that I prefer to keep the past in the past. I have a couple of friends from way back but we naturally just stayed in touch. I guess for the more curious there is Facebook which takes away any mystery of what happened to certain people.

I'd rather scoop out my eyeballs with a rusty spoon than attend a school reunion. I have no desire to engage with anyone i went to school with.

I have been to one. It made me realise that I still see the small handful of people from school who I have any interest in talking to. It was a boring night of making small talk with people who kept looking at my arse in a 'yes she has got fatter' way!
