I'm not sure if this has already been posted as the last thread whizzed by so fast I haven't yet had chance to look at most of it.

mobile.nytimes.com/2017/02/05/us/politics/trump-white-house-aides-strategy.html?referer=

Mr. Bannon remains the president’s dominant adviser, despite Mr. Trump’s anger that he was not fully briefed on details of the executive order he signed giving his chief strategist a seat on the National Security Council

(My underlining.) Can you fecking believe this?

amispartacus · 06/02/2017 13:58

Don't forget Trump is off to see the military today....

2+2 always = 4.

It's true that politicians routinely misuse statistics. However, they usually care about the appearance of honesty and truth.

It's not clear whether Trump is deluded or lying, but he just makes things up.

merrymouse · 06/02/2017 14:05

I think it's very significant that iconic American brands like Apple and Levis are fighting Trump in court only 2 weeks after the inauguration.

Business leaders clearly aren't worried about offending him, and it's clear that many feel it's good to be seen to be anti-Trump.

Badders123 · 06/02/2017 14:07

Can't he fucking read!!?
No...don't answer that!!

BiglyBadgers · 06/02/2017 14:08

How about this one:

FACT - 80% of people polled think Boris Johnson should be prime minister
REAL FACT - 80% of express readers who responded to a poll on the express website say they think Boris Johnson should be prime minister

Both those statements are facts. It's just one is somewhat more of a complete truth than the other.

cozietoesie · 06/02/2017 14:09

Apparently from the NYT. (Perhaps other posters can verify that?)

....Bannon, the former head of alt-right website Breitbart, has been credited with some of the Trump administration’s most controversial moves, and reportedly told allies that he had a narrow time slot in which to push his own agenda in the White House before other advisers put a check on his influence....

BiglyBadgers · 06/02/2017 14:10

Sorry, that post was sort of in response to the earlier discussion about what constitutes facts.

Badders123 · 06/02/2017 14:12

Bigly - good point
Have so many people really lost the ability to think for themselves?
I get the confirmation bias thing (I suppose that's why they buy the paper in the first place) but ffs...

klassy · 06/02/2017 14:14

His Facebook page is pretty depressing. Lots of rabidly pro-Trump people pretty much demanding blood, even talking about stockpiling guns and prepping against the "liberals". Confused

The comments are SO one-sided that I'm wondering if they delete oppositional ones? I can't believe no one would write negative ones.

Sittinonthefloor · 06/02/2017 14:23

I'm calling the shots and ordering a fantastic placemark.

amispartacus · 06/02/2017 14:26

Have so many people really lost the ability to think for themselves

Now that is a question.

We are also being nudged. Look at this picture and the words. Why was this 'still' taken? It's actually her waving to the crowd - if you see the video but 1 image can be used to nudge people.

It's manipulation.

Both those statements are facts. It's just one is somewhat more of a complete truth than the other

And you have to dig deep to find out what really happened.

People don't seem happy with the Super Bowl win and how the coach and quarter back are fans of Trump.

It takes more than 2 people to vote a guy in, I believe that they should be more pissed with others that voted, rather than concentrating their anger on specific people.

AndHoldTheBun · 06/02/2017 14:29

Mostly place marking the new threads, but I'm looking forward to hearing what garbled statements Trump might make upon meeting the military today.

blueskyinmarch · 06/02/2017 14:37

Hello new thread. I wonder what this week will bring us from Trumpton.

BiglyBadgers reposted from old thread:
recent detention centre story www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-38852020
^A woman who has been married to a British man for 27 years is being held in a Scottish detention centre prior to deportation.
Irene Clennel is originally from Singapore and has two British sons and a granddaughter.
She lives with her husband John in County Durham and was detained at a routine appointment at an immigration reporting centre in Middlesbrough^

GingerIvy · 06/02/2017 15:00

Hello all - busy day today. Sorry - yes, I actually wasn't aware of the incarceration/holding places in the UK. I assume there are some in the US as well. I'm concerned there will be the mass effort to "relocate" those that are already settled. I worry some Americans will think it's a good thing. Hmm I know a few Americans that would happily agree to resettlement camps (NOT me!!).

GingerIvy · 06/02/2017 15:02

On a separate note - I suspect the "I call my own shots" is his reply to those articles out today that say Bannon is calling the shots. Step 1 in taking Bannon down is giving him more press - Trump won't like it.
