BREAKING: under Boston ruling, for 7 days people lawfully entitled to enter US cannot be DETAINED or REMOVED based on Trump's exec order.

amispartacus · 29/01/2017 13:18

You know what is so scary. You study this at school. You read the books. You can see how easily someone like Hitler can be swept to power. You see what happened.

You think it can't happen again. Not in a democracy. You think we've learnt

But it can.

Yep a friend and I were not-so-joking today when we imagined an essay question in a couple of decades' time

Discuss the events running up to the outbreak of
WW3.

Donald J. Trump ‏*@realDonaldTrump* · 11m11 minutes ago

Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW. Look what is happening all over Europe and, indeed, the world - a horrible mess!

Good God, the man is a lunatic. A dangerous lunatic with no self awareness whatsoever.

GingerIvy · 29/01/2017 13:21

He has basically upended the Israel issues and pissed on years of agreement there. Now he's declared war and is doing multiple air strikes. God only knows what the civilian body count will be.

THIS is what he was moving towards with the ban. He knew it would occupy everyone while he ordered the air strikes.

Is he even allowed to do the air strikes without clearing it through the UN?

Propaganda again. They're not allowed to talk to media or the public, of course, as there's a ban, so this was on their website as a "statement."

................
Joint Press Release Between Border Patrol and ICE Councils
As representatives of the nation’s Frontline immigration officers and agents responsible for enforcing our laws and protecting our borders, we fully support and appreciate President Trump’s swift and decisive action to keep the American people safe and allow law enforcement to do its job. We applaud the three executive orders he has issued to date, and are confident they will make America safer and more prosperous. Morale amongst our agents and officers has increased exponentially since the signing of the orders. The men and women of ICE and Border Patrol will work tirelessly to keep criminals, terrorists, and public safety threats out of this country, which remains the number one target in the world – and President Trump’s actions now empower us to fulfill this life saving mission, and it will indeed save thousands of lives and billions of dollars.

amispartacus · 29/01/2017 13:28

The danger for the US lies within. There are a lot of Muslims living in the US. What next?

Awkward when you invite the new neighbour over and then realise he's a total psychopath.

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 13:33

Gee, I wonder who wrote that statement for them ginger Hmm

AcrossthePond55 · 29/01/2017 13:33

Does the Queen (and by extension the RF) have the right to outright refuse to host a state visit for someone she finds morally abhorrent? I know she can't actually voice her opinion on Trump, but certainly she can signal her disapproval in other ways?

AcrossthePond55 · 29/01/2017 13:37

BigBadgers

It sounds as if that statement was issued by the ICE and Border Patrol Labour Unions.

amispartacus · 29/01/2017 13:38

Well, there are several Royals from countries we deal with who are morally abhorrent.

As well as others. I remember the protests when the Chinese President came. DS has been learning about my previous activist life. Not sure if he's shocked or impressed Grin

I just had one of those moments when I realised the obvious and made the connection between the take over of the national security council and the airstrikes. Trying to find out what the security council can actually do is a hampered by the fact that their webpages have been removed from the white house site. However, the Wikipedia pages as a section done the bottom about kill orders. It is a bit terrifying when you think that Trump's cronies now have control of this. Here is a small extract from the entry:

"A secret National Security Council panel pursues the killing of an individual, including American citizens, who has been called a suspected terrorist.[8] In this case, no public record of this decision or any operation to kill the suspect will be made available.[8] The panel's actions are justified by "two principal legal theories": They "were permitted by Congress when it authorized the use of military forces against militants in the wake of the attacks of September 11, 2001; and they are permitted under international law if a country is defending itself."[8]"

Here is a link to the full page: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_National_Security_Council

PuppetinParadize · 29/01/2017 13:40

I dread to think what will happen if another terrorist attack happens in the US. I think Trump's policies could make it more not less likely.Sad

BigBadgers · 29/01/2017 13:42

I had kind of assumed it was helpfully written for them though acrossthepond. It is extremely sycophantic and just the sort of thing I imagine trump's press office would send them to put up, after all there is a media ban so nothing can go out without approval. Possibly they are genuinly that thrilled about it though.

Peregrina · 29/01/2017 13:42

Sadly Ginger, that is just the sort of rubbish our own PM would write.

The word is 'when'. And Muslims will be blamed. We all know what happens when a group is blamed

"In November 1938, a Nazi ‘diplomat’ was shot dead by a Jew in Paris. Hitler ordered a seven day campaign of terror against the Jews in Germany to be organised by Himmler and the SS. On the 10th November, the campaign started. 10,000 shops owned by Jews were destroyed and their contents stolen. Homes and synagogues were set on fire and left to burn. The fire brigades showed their loyalty to Hitler by assuming that the buildings would burn down anyway, so why try to prevent it? A huge amount of damage was done to Jewish property but the Jewish community was ordered to pay a one billion mark fine to pay for the eventual clear-up. Jews were forced to scrub the streets clean"

This is why we learn history. Recent history.

The royals will do their jobs - they hosted a state visit from China - but I think a visit would have to be handled very carefully in the present climate.

It's going to be very embarrassing for May if she is touting a special relationship but it's clear that Trump is as welcome as a cup of cold sick. However, at the moment, but that will be the reality.

merrymouse · 29/01/2017 13:45

Oops,

'At the moment that is the reality'.
