There is nothing codified in US law that says a President must be a Christian. Just that he/she must be 35 years of age, a natural born citizen, and have been resident in the US for 14 years.

It's widely speculated that Thomas Jefferson was an atheist, although he apparently described himself as a 'non-trinitarian deist'. Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson had no specific religious affiliations.

Errrrr, there is no legal requirement for the U.S. President to be Christian. The reverse, in fact, religion must not be a barrier to appointment to any public office. Unlike in the U.K. where religious discrimination was in force between 1673 & 1829 in the form of the Test Acts meaning that, amongst other things, Catholics could not be MPs & thus were unable to become Prime Minister. (Sucked to be us, basically. Sucked to be us...)

No, that's true. Most presidents are christians, but that's down to voters, not the law. They talk a very good game of separation of church and state, but when it comes right down to it, it's a lie - religion plays such a huge part in politics in the US - for some anyway.

Alors, one of the classes of people ACTUALLY prevented from entering the U.S. by the Immigration & Nationality Act (1965) is:

"FOREIGN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS WHO HAVE COMMITTED PARTICULARLY
SEVERE VIOLATIONS OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM - Any alien who, while serving as a foreign government official, was responsible for or directly carried out, at any time, particularly severe violations of religious freedom, as defined in section 3 of the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 (22 U.S.C. 6402), is inadmissible."

Presumably they didn't foresee (even when it was amended in 2013) needing to ban their own President from re-entering the country. Clearly it's only FOREIGN government officials who'd do something like that. Do you think Anonymous could just take out that one little word for us? And surely SOMEONE with access to the hard copies could break out the Tippex/tear out that page/otherwise do what's necessary. Desperate times, and all that...
