To hope my daughter has stopped growing?

Do you think she's stopped growing yet?

She is 14yo and 5'4" - exactly the same height as me.
She weighs about 7 stone and I am about 9 stone.
Her dad is 5'7".
She had a growth spurt about a year ago.
She is taller than pretty much all of her female relatives (except her aunt (OH's sis) who is about 5'6")

I don't want her to be taller than me! Grin

I've been taller than my mum since I was 10!! And she is 5 foot 5, so not short! There's not a lot you can do about it Grin

Eh, why not? I was taller than my mum.aged about 11. She's 5'2, I'm 5'7. Sister is 5'4.

Has she started her periods yet? Don't girls tend to not get much taller after they start their periods?

If she stays this height you can borrow each others stuff in a few years. I always borrow pinch DMs nice shoes.

I read that girls slow down growing once they start their periods, and only manage another two inches on average. That was true for me, and seems also true for DD. She's 13.5 and seems to have stopped growing, at exactly the same height as me - to her huge annoyance!! (She has a tall dad and assumed she'd end up taller Grin) She does like borrowing my clothes though.

That doesn't sound tall to me. I was 5"10 well before then. Taller than both my parents (by a considerable amount) and my siblings. My mother always taught me to be proud of it. You should be too. After all you can't choose you're height. And you can't be a runway model at 5ft4 as the Italians say being tall is halfway to being beautiful Wink

My kids all bypassed me years ago. It's fine.

5'4" is still below average for a woman, so your daughter could have plenty of growing to do yet.

DS1 is 14 and taller than me.

Don't have a problem with his height but he has size 13 feet and I am really hoping they have stopped growing...

Haha tough! My sisters and I are variously 5ft 7, 8 and 10 and our mum is 5ft 1. Obviously she should be proud that she fed us well and brought us up properly. Wink

What does it matter?

I am now the smallest in my house at 5ft 3in, my youngest daughter is 5ft 10in! Not something i have ever thought about tbh.

5ft 11 here with a small mum, I hope you don't let her know this is how you feel or it could have serious consequences on her self confidence in the future.

I think she may grow a little more but most of my growing was done by 14. I am 5'10 and don't mind if my daughter is taller. I don't want her to struggle with clothes though.

She's actually a shade over average for the U.K. According to wiki, but I would think shorter than average for her generation. I think the general rule is you end up taller than your shorter parent so you may not get your wish (and I'm not sure why you'd want to, surely up to about 5'10 the taller the better)

It doesn't really matter, I don't mind that much. I was just curious. I think I just don't want her to stop being a little baby. Grin

She started her periods about a year ago

5'4" is actually quite short for the current generation of girls in the west.

Sorry, weird post. Usually they say girls grow taller than their mums. My daughter is about an inch or so taller than me. She's 19. Doesn't stop her being my baby though. 🙄

Sounds like she probably will "inch up" a tiny bit more but not necessarily much. Girls growing "taller than their shortest parent" probably works on average as long as you adjust the father's height down to the equivalent female height (eg if dad's exactly average height, compare the height of an average woman not dad's actual height).

On that basis I'd always expected my daughter to end up the smallest in our family, as although her dad is pretty tall (>91st centile), I'm in proportion even taller (99th centile). She grew early though and is perhaps an inch or two shorter than I'd expected, though still taller than average. She's 14 and I think hasn't grown for more than a year though I haven't measured. Your daughter's on a significantly later trajectory than her. Enjoy her height!

(Agree with those worrying about sons; my 11 yr old will overtake his sister's height shortly, his feet already have and have nearly caught my largish ones. Height wise he still has a way to go to catch his dad though ...)
