To hope my daughter has stopped growing?

yaela123 · 25/01/2017 16:43

Do you think she's stopped growing yet?

She is 14yo and 5'4" - exactly the same height as me.
She weighs about 7 stone and I am about 9 stone.
Her dad is 5'7".
She had a growth spurt about a year ago.
She is taller than pretty much all of her female relatives (except her aunt (OH's sis) who is about 5'6")

I don't want her to be taller than me! Grin

My children will almost certainly be taller than me as I'm just over 5ft.

I just hope it's not when they are 8 or something...Smile

brendasupermum1 · 26/01/2017 11:30

I think this is unreasonable to try and disrupt your daughter's development.

You should try increase her confidence NOT squash it down to your height.

I am disgusted.

Grinfirst time here Brenda?

llangennith · 26/01/2017 11:44

Looking at old photos I see that all three DC were taller than me by the time they were 13. I'm 5'6".
They're still 'my babies'Smile

Henrysmycat · 26/01/2017 11:44

Jeez! Why she should stop growing? Are you kidding me? I'm short 5'1-2 and I have an extremely tall, leggy husband at 6'3. My daughter at 8 is a few inches shorter than me and according to the charts on her way to 5'10-11 with similar shape to my husband. And why not? If anything, I'd have loved to be tall like a model.

LockieS · 26/01/2017 11:45

Bloody hell folks she was joking!

Calm down, I doubt she actually wants her kid to stop growing

This is exactly why people are using bloody "lighthearted" all of the shop

FaFoutis · 26/01/2017 11:46

I like your style Brenda.

Orangebird69 · 26/01/2017 11:48

I was 6'1 at 14. My mum is 5'6. YABU.

FatBottomedGal · 26/01/2017 12:17

I'm sure you're just being lighthearted OP!

I am 5'8" and my mum is 5'3" (although apparently she has shrunk from 5'4"!) She is constantly going on about how she'd love to have long legs like mine, but I find them to be an absolute pain in the arse. My dad used to measure me every year to see how much I'd grown and when I finally stopped (probably around 15 years old?) he was overtly relieved. As was I!

Sallystyle · 26/01/2017 12:25

Two of my teen boys are now taller than me. It's to be expected as I am only 5ft 1. They are still pretty short though.

My 10 year old girl is going to be tall like her dad I think. Won't be long until she is taller than me either.

I'm laughing at the outraged posters Grin

DemelzaP · 26/01/2017 12:33

Oh, by that calculation my DD will be 5'4. I'm 5'8, 5'4 seems quite short to me!

My sister and I are both shorter than both of our parents.

Bluntness100 · 26/01/2017 12:41

One way to estimate your daughter's final height is to subtract 6"/15cm to her father's height, add it you your height, and divide by two.

lalalalyra · 26/01/2017 12:58

I'm 5'2 (I say 5'3, but in reality it's 5'2 and a bit..). My 2 13yo DD's are already taller than me. DD1 is 5'6 already. DD2 is 5'4, but I think all the medication and steroids she's had to take over the years mean she won't be as tall as her twin (I stopped growing at 11 for the same reason). Their Dad is 5'11.

DH however is 6'5. DS2 is 8 and is already up to my chin. I reckon he'll streak past me very quickly. It won't be long before only the 3yo and the baby are shorter than me!

DS1 (DH's, not mine biologically) is almost 18 and he's already 6'6. His Mum was 5'9. He's hoping he doesn't grow much taller because he says he's too tight to pay extra for trousers Grin

3dancingladies · 26/01/2017 13:11

DD is 5" 10 and loves being tall - she often wears heels, so is then over 6". I am 5'6" and DM is 5' so at this rate of growth between generations, I could potentially have extremely tall GC.

Be careful what you say, OP, even in a light-hearted manner as you could end up denting your DD's confidence.

Teaholic · 26/01/2017 16:43

Id hate to be that tall. Nothing wrong with being average.

By those calculations my daughter should be taller than she is. Id sayy s9n will be taller so happy he got the height if there wasnt enough to go around!

AmeliaJack · 26/01/2017 16:52

My very beautiful friend is 6 foot tall. She looks wonderful and elegant and lovely.

InfinityPlusOne · 26/01/2017 17:05

Not sure about the periods theory. Certainly didn't apply on my case as I started secondary one of the smallest girls in the class aged 12. I'd say I was only 5'2'' at that stage. Got my period a few months later and then hit a growth spurt over the next few years that saw me leave school taller than most at 5'9''. My mum is only 5'4'.

Being tall is great for all the reasons already mentioned, although boyfriends in my teen years were usually shorter than me. My husband's 6'2'' so we are well matched.

Astoria7974 · 26/01/2017 20:09

I was 5 ft tall and 8 years old when I started my period. My final adult height is now just shy of 5 7 (got my adult height at 14). So yeah the period theory is bull crap.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 26/01/2017 20:12

DD is about 5 inches taller than me and a lot stronger.

It is great, she gets things off high shelves and helps carry the shopping.

Let me guess, if your child was a DS you'd want him to be taller than you.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 26/01/2017 20:16

I'm going to have to make them sit down to tell them off soon

AmeliaJack There is a teacher at DD's school who is about 4' 8" tall. Some of the 13 year old boys are well over 6'. She got so angry with one boy she stood on a chair to tell him off.

londonfeather · 26/01/2017 20:19

I'm shorter than my parents! It does happen!

BeachyKeen · 26/01/2017 20:21

I'm 5 10(taller than both my parents) dh is 5 11(taller than both his folks) ds (17) is 6 foot and dd(19) is 6 foot 2
I'm a normal build, dh is stocky and the kids are both rail thin.
I wonder sometime how tall their own kids will end up!

QODRestYeMerryGentlemen · 26/01/2017 20:25

My dd is 5 ft 4.5 in

I'm 5 ft and about 1/5 of an inch 🤣

AmeliaJack · 26/01/2017 21:33

Jackelope I feel that standing in a chair might rather be lacking in dignity. Grin

Maybe I could just stand on the stairs...
