To hope my daughter has stopped growing?

yaela123 · 25/01/2017 16:43

Do you think she's stopped growing yet?

She is 14yo and 5'4" - exactly the same height as me.
She weighs about 7 stone and I am about 9 stone.
Her dad is 5'7".
She had a growth spurt about a year ago.
She is taller than pretty much all of her female relatives (except her aunt (OH's sis) who is about 5'6")

I don't want her to be taller than me! Grin

I am 6' tall and my 13 year old DD looks down on me and calls me titch. I quite enjoy being called titch as it does not happen often!

bookworm14 · 25/01/2017 20:49

I hope my mum doesn't feel this way - she's about 5'4" and I'm 5'10"!

Carnabyqueen · 25/01/2017 20:55

My mum is 5ft 4 and she seems tiny. I'm a lofty 5ft 6 and DP is bang on 6ft. I suspect both my girls will be taller than me (I hope so) as taller is elegant, clothes hang better and you can get away with eating more without looking like a tubby little porker. What's not to like?

She's still your baby.

steff13 · 25/01/2017 21:22

I'm 5'8", my mother was 5'7'. My husband is 5'11", and #1 son is 6'1" and #2 son is 6'2" (much to the chagrin of #1 son). They are 18 and 15, and the 18-year-old surpassed me when he was 16, and the 15-year-old surpassed me when he was 13.

FuckTheJournos · 25/01/2017 21:31

I am 5'11 and taller than either of my parents. My Nan's were both between 5" and 5'2 and my mum is around 5'4.

My DH is 6'1 ... I will be interested to see how tall our kids end up! Must admit though I have always wished I was a bit shorter - 5'6 or something like that. I have a long torso and tops are never long enough!

hoddtastic · 25/01/2017 21:37

i am 5'10ish, dd1 is over six foot.
Was watching school Xmas plays with interest as both DS and Dd are a couple inches taller than all (but one other) in their class, and DD is one of the youngest in the year (august birthday)

Stripyhoglets · 25/01/2017 22:18

I'm taller than my mum - but I have to admit when I thought about it the other day when I noticed how much DD has grown - I don't want my daughter to be taller than me - I'm 5 ft 6 though so not short!

seabreezewavingtrees · 26/01/2017 00:51

My dm is 5 and her sis is 4'9. I grew until I finished secondary school and I'm 5'10
I was taller than dm by the time I was about 11. My ds is 9 and is approaching her height now.
One of my Dsis is only 5'4, but even that's 4" taller than mum. The other Dsisters are all 5'10 or 5'11. Our df is 5'11 so we all tower over him in heels.
My dh is also 5'11, we don't have girls but our boys look as though they'll grow much taller than dh, and most of the men in his family are over 6'3, except his own df who's 5'6

BitOutOfPractice · 26/01/2017 01:06

My 13yo dd is 5' 11". 5 inches taller than me. She's still my girl though.

UnderbeneathsiesTheMistletoe · 26/01/2017 01:06

I'm the short house.
My dcs now tell me when I need to do my roots and also they can reach to take things down from the top shelves., so I don't keep having to get my stool.
I love their height... wish I had a bit of it, symmetrically applied obviously. No use in having one long leg and one short one, unless you lived on a mountain!

My own mum made a big deal about being short and tall.
Be careful what you say.
Your DD will always be your baby, even when she has her own baby.

Maybe you're just feeling a bit of pmt, as I was yesterday. Had quite a blub about nothing at all actually.
Or maybe you're realising that you'll not have another baby? That can be hard to swallow, so best done with cake and a brew. Chin up!

BuggersMuddle · 26/01/2017 01:28

I am a short arse (short than parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins....the works). I genuinely don't get being worried about height unless someone is not growing or is an extreme outlier.

I absolutely own my height and at 5' on a good day would rather be 'properly short' (it's kind of an identity thing) than 'slightly short' at say 5' 3" like my DM. Having said that, I can of course see the benefits of being taller (but with my parents that was very unlikely to happen Grin).

I have a friend who has been worried about her daughter's height since toddler-hood. (Toddler is tall. As expected - daddy is 6' 5"). Genuinely can't get this and am worried that she voices it to be honest as if tall is bad.

I could understand of course being worried for kids who were likely to be real outliers re: bullying etc., but your daughter at 14 is a very usual adult height and even if she grows, unlikely to become tall, much less unusually so.

PCDC · 26/01/2017 01:33

My DS is 11 and already 5'5" - he's growing like a weed! Shock

BumDNC · 26/01/2017 01:39

I hope my DC do grow taller as they are very short. I really wonder about the period thing as in that case DD1 has stopped at 5ft2 and she hates being that short. DD2 is 5ft1 but hasn't had her period as long

BumDNC · 26/01/2017 01:40

FYI I don't care about their heights but they don't like being so short and are praying for some growth!

AmeliaJack · 26/01/2017 01:44

My DD is 9yo and only 6 inches shorter than me... my days are seriously numbered. Her twin brother is even taller and already excitedly talking about when he can look down on me. Grin

I passed my own Mum at 10yo.

I'm going to have to make them sit down to tell them off soon. Grin

garlicandsapphire · 26/01/2017 02:01

I'm smaller than both my DCs 14 and 16 and I'm 5' 7. Its rather funny how they both patronise me. We are all getting taller due to improved health and nutrition. Enjoy your DD growing into a fascinating independent human being. Short arse!!!

Ericaequites · 26/01/2017 02:03

One way to estimate your daughter's final height is to subtract 6"/15cm to her father's height, add it you your height, and divide by two.

I grew three inches in one summer at 13, shortly after menarche, and grew another inch in the next eight years.

amusedbush · 26/01/2017 07:25

Ericaequites

That formula is spot on for me! Shock

justgivemethepinot · 26/01/2017 10:06

erica doesn't always work I'm afraid, I'm 5'4 and my sister (full sister) is nearly 6 foot!

GreatFuckability · 26/01/2017 10:30

My dd is a tiny 4ft11 and pretty much done growing. I'm 5ft7.

downwardfacingdog · 26/01/2017 10:48

I'm 6'1. I thought you were going to say she was my height. I was 5'11 at 12 or 13 and slowly grew another 2" until I was about 17 (much to my annoyance)

downwardfacingdog · 26/01/2017 10:49

...my mum is 5'6 and my Dad is 5'11. They've had to get over it!

CaraAspen · 26/01/2017 10:52

Surely anything under 5ft 5 is short, anyway?

BumDNC · 26/01/2017 11:24

That calculation makes both my kids 5ft3, which is pretty much what they both calculated to when I doubled their heights aged 2

But surely they won't both be the same heights?
