To hope my daughter has stopped growing?

Do you think she's stopped growing yet?

She is 14yo and 5'4" - exactly the same height as me.
She weighs about 7 stone and I am about 9 stone.
Her dad is 5'7".
She had a growth spurt about a year ago.
She is taller than pretty much all of her female relatives (except her aunt (OH's sis) who is about 5'6")

I don't want her to be taller than me! Grin

I do get what you mean. I'm 5.7 and when my Ds was 13 he was slightly shorter than me, I got all crazy not wanting him to be taller than me. I think it was that "he won't be my baby anymore" feeling.

Anyway he's now 16 and 6.6 and I've got over the craziness and he's still my baby
So YABU but it's ok you will get over it 😀

yaela123 · 25/01/2017 17:13

I'm having a weird day today and I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like this. They just seem to grow up so fast

I really don't care that much whether she's stopped already or grows another 10 inches well maybe not 10

Regardless of how tall she is she will always be your baby. And without speaking for anyone else I still need my mum. Just don't put your fears on her, she will as tall as she's meant to be. To put it in context though my 10 yr old is probably close to 5ft and is already almost taller than my mum. From what you describe I don't think that she will be unusually tall.

Camomila · 25/01/2017 17:14

I'm an inch shorter than my mum. I did a lot of gymnastics as a kid though and I reckon all the impacts squashed me Grin

Miserylovescompany2 · 25/01/2017 17:14

I stopped growing at 11. I was the tallest in my year group...it didn't last though. I got as far as 5'3" then ceased to grow any taller.

My 11 YO is the same height as me. 15 YO has bypassed me, he's 5'8" and still growing strong.

WelshMoth · 25/01/2017 17:14

DD is 10 and is already 5"2. DH is 6'5" so I rather think she'll be overtaking me before she heads to comp short arse that I am

EastMidsMummy · 25/01/2017 17:16

U.K. average height for a woman is now 5'5".

DimsieMaitland · 25/01/2017 17:20

DD2 is 13 and 5' 10" and still growing. She overtook me 2 years ago.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 25/01/2017 17:21

Op - none of my siblings and I are taller than either of our parents. I'm still shorter than my elderly, shrinking, grandparents. My mum is the only one of all of her friends with no children taller than her.

Blossomdeary · 25/01/2017 17:22

This is a non-problem.

I was 5' 7" when I was about 12.

Gildedcage · 25/01/2017 17:23

Welsh that was me. I stopped growing at 13 taller than both parents etc. By a lot. Apparently my dad didn't grow til he was 18 lol...was tiny for a man. Genes eh.

amusedbush · 25/01/2017 17:23

I'm 5' 4.5 and at least an inch taller than my mum. She insists that she is 5' 4 and gets really angry if anyone suggests that she's shorter than she says Confused

PickledCauliflower · 25/01/2017 17:24

She probably won't grow much taller now she is 14 years old, and she doesn't sound tall for her age.

My mum didn't like it when I grew taller than her and my older sister. I'm only 5 7" now (prob an inch smaller at 14).
They are both a little over 5ft. Maybe it felt like I towered over them, but I didn't really understand the fuss :)

hopsalong · 25/01/2017 17:26

YABU. Who wants to be 5'4''? Grin

My mother is 5'3'' and I was her height when I was 12. Now I'm 5'9''. Tonnes of things I hate about my appearance, but I have to say that my height has been an absolute blessing -- makes me feel more confident, makes some sports easier, clothes easier to wear, pregnancy somehow less cumbersome (quite a small bump despite big baby). And I can eat loads more than my short friends and stay slim.

I bet there are lots of things you like about your height too... But my mother was really pleased as soon as I outgrew her!

Gildedcage · 25/01/2017 17:27

Dimsie that was me exactly which was actually horrid at the time but by the time I got to 16 and the boys had more or less caught up It didn't bother me. I must say being tall has been fabulous for me Grin

Bloopbleep · 25/01/2017 17:28

I don't know why people keep saying you stop growing when you get your period. I grew 6" after my period including 2" between 18 and 21

justgivemethepinot · 25/01/2017 17:28

I'm 5'4 and very much the shortest in my family female wise. She's probably got another few inches to go yet OP and will be patting the top of your head in no time Wink

Mari50 · 25/01/2017 17:30

It's definitely something that I want for my daughter, I'm 5'4" and a total short arse, would love her to reach the dizzy heights of at least 5'6". Following growth chart estimations and her current height she might make it!

amusedbush · 25/01/2017 17:32

Who wants to be 5'4''?

Me! I like being this height, it makes me feel cute Wink

Plus, DH is almost a foot taller than me so when I'm being the "big spoon", I'm like a human backpack Grin

IrnBruTortie · 25/01/2017 17:32

I'm quite looking forward to being overtaken... my 11 year old has about 3 inches I think, but my 6 year old came out long, and I think she'll stay that way - I'll be surprised if she's not taller than me by the end of primary. I am shorter than the national average though. I don't think I stopped growing until I was 18 though, but did start my periods quite late (14).

Teaholic · 25/01/2017 17:33

I'd love to be five four!

MrsJayy · 25/01/2017 17:35

Im 4ft 11 my dds by passed me at 10

Gildedcage · 25/01/2017 17:36

I don't know, I think being 5ft4 would be a pain when you're used to being able to reach the top shelf and stuff. It was also great for netball!

Gildedcage · 25/01/2017 17:36

juneau · 25/01/2017 17:38

I thought you were going to say she's already 5'10" or something!

Many DDs end up taller than their mums - but if your DH is also on the more modest side height-wise then she may have reached her full height. What about the GPs though? I'm 5'4", DH is 5'10", but DS2 is on track to be 6'4" thanks to a tall grandad and uncle.
