Thank you for those links squishy, I have signed the human rights one. I couldn't look my grandpa in the eye otherwise - he fought a war to stop fascism. Are we really watching a British Prime Minister - a Conservative one at that! - selling that legacy down the river?

It's shameful.

GingerIvy · 26/01/2017 13:12

Well, shit. I didn't think they'd dare, but clearly they have no bounds.

I wonder how
Jeremy Corbyn would handle the Trumpster? It would be fascinating.

Roussette · 26/01/2017 13:38

The FB link of what's happened so far is chilling.

I'm glad some of his own party are questioning The Orange One's mental state. MIllions across the world have been doing that since he was sworn in.

The Washington Post someone put up is interesting. He gets all his 'news' from the telly then. That ties in with something I linked on the previous thread... aides have leaked that he gets bored and goes off to watch TV. Then tweets. That article proves it, he's lifting phrases from Fox News. Does he not listen to his advisors?

My DH is also a tiny bit fed up of my Orange one rantings. Grin However, 2 of my 3 DCs are well on board (one is too busy!), every morning we are linking stuff to each other and equally appalled. One DC sent me "The road to authoritarianism - Trump's first four days in Office" which I think is the same as the FB link SanFran posted on here.

I used to teach Critical Thinking in Y12. I loved it. I used topics I thought important to deliver the taught elements: the use of torture (at that time, it had been redefined by the Bush White House as essentially anything up to but not including death), the rise of social media, democracy and different electoral systems, the EU and free trade, prisons and prisoners' rights, childhood obesity, the pros and cons of e-cigarettes and so on. I like to think we were ahead of the curve but I never thought we would be where we are now.

GingerIvy · 26/01/2017 13:41

Fox News practically kiss his feet, which is why he watches them. Their twitter only posts little bursts of the press meetings of Angry Spice - they edit out anything that looks bad and keep in the good. Doesn't leave much. haha

borntobequiet · 26/01/2017 13:43

Oh, and then CT was seen as simultaneously "too hard" (though the results were good) and "too much of a soft subject". (???) and dropped.

GingerIvy · 26/01/2017 13:44

Here's the actual article about what I posted earlier (the list of "immigrant crimes" he wants published).

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-publish-weekly-list-crimes-immigrants-commit-refugees-aliens-executive-order-us-a7546826.html

GingerIvy · 26/01/2017 13:45

Note this particular section:

It does not specify that only crimes committed by illegal immigrants should be included - raising the prospect of offences committed by any immigrant being published even if the person is living in the US legally.

HolisticAssassin · 26/01/2017 13:52

Even the Dutch are now taking the piss. Apologies if this has been posted already.

#BREAKING Trump to Mexico leader: if you won't pay for wall, 'better to cancel' visit

Roussette · 26/01/2017 14:03

So the 230 protestors at the inauguration had their phones confiscated. Police are going through all their emails and messages from their phones... including lawyers, medics and journalists whose email accounts contain privileged information on clients and sources. In 2014 the Supreme Court ruled that a warrant is required to search the contents of a cell phone.

Roussette I hadn't seen that. Shocking.

Has someone posted bad lip reading yet? It cheered me up.

MoonriseKingdom · 26/01/2017 14:09

This is all feeling rather apocalyptic. There's such a flurry of awfulness it's difficult for any opposition to know where to start. Shock

Thanks for posting the link about Madeleine Albright upthread. If it comes to it I hope many more will join her.

GingerIvy · 26/01/2017 14:10

Moonrise there are already people sharing it around twitter saying they will register as well in solidarity.

birdybirdywoofwoof · 26/01/2017 14:13

I heard some Jewish community leaders saying it before Trump got elected.

The way Trump is behaving now is not a surprise - I am surprised at people (not here) who said 'give the guy a chance...etc, etc'. What did they not see in his life, his career, and his electoral campaign that did not point to this?

MoonriseKingdom · 26/01/2017 14:15

Ginger - my mother's family were Polish Jewish but luckily left Poland in the early part of the century. To even suggest a register is utterly horrifying. I hope that the age of social media and the Internet will shine a light on anything like that.

Trump to Mexico leader: if you won't pay for wall, 'better to cancel' visit

Good, I'd say, if I was the Mexican President.

GingerIvy · 26/01/2017 14:18

Yes, the Anne Frank Centre has put out some interesting tweets.

On the UK side of things... more disaster....

I hope for their sakes, those that were sanctioning the unemployed get someone with more empathy when they're out of work.

Lweji · 26/01/2017 14:21

I suppose all these cuts is how he's planning to finance hiring more border agents and the registry.

Any news about those ultimate feminist plans for childcare?

"Provide 6 weeks of paid leave to new mothers before returning to work."

I don't see him rushing to fulfill this one.
