It's amazing how I can get my adverts to appear on the news feeds of people most likely to buy my services.

Yes, and how I get adverts for things I've just searched for...

House of Cards introduced this concept. The Democratic candidate had access to a search engine database (IIRC) that allowed him to profile voters and target messages.
Conversely, good old Underwood wanted to use the CIA database.

BTW, probably worth watching the in May.

Sadly I only have a £2 a day budget Grin

SanFranBear · 24/01/2017 12:10

I know we shouldn't compare but, c'mon! The Emperor just looks so so morose and we'll, vile! The Obama's are just happy and vital and excited.

I've always imagined the data patterns produced by online behaviour to be a bit like watching a huge murmuration - maybe each swallow thinks it is flying it's own, individual path but together they make these beautiful patterns.

Like any new technology, there are positive applications as well as sinister ones.

PausingFlatly · 24/01/2017 12:20

Coincidentally, I've just been re-watching the original House of Cards.

Uncomfortable viewing...

PausingFlatly · 24/01/2017 12:21

Ooh, a murmuration of posters!

MsHooliesCardigan · 24/01/2017 12:25

SanFran Don's face in that picture is exactly the expression my son used to make when he was a toddler and I turned CBeebies off.

Love Trevor Noah.

Trumpinator, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Trump, Lion King Trump, who in the world Trump was actually thanking, Michelle sighing and a musical moment, including some Rockettes.

Trump is proving to be Mr Insecure Plus Plus Plus - here's the latest report from the NY Times:

WASHINGTON — President Trump used his first official meeting with congressional leaders on Monday to falsely claim that millions of unauthorized immigrants had robbed him of a popular vote majority, a return to his obsession with the election’s results even as he seeks support for his legislative agenda.

The claim, which he has made before on Twitter, has been judged untrue by numerous fact-checkers. The new president’s willingness to bring it up at a White House reception in the State Dining Room is an indication that he continues to dwell on the implications of his popular vote loss even after assuming power.

Moving into the White House appears not to have tempered that anxiety. Several people familiar with the closed-door meeting Monday night, who asked to remain anonymous in discussing a private conversation, said Mr. Trump used the opportunity to brag about his victory.

As part of that conversation, Mr. Trump asserted that between three million and five million unauthorized immigrants voted for Mrs. Clinton. That is similar to a Twitter message he posted in late November that said he would have won the popular vote “if you deduct the millions of people who voted illegally.”

Voting officials across the country have said there is virtually no evidence of people voting illegally, and certainly not millions of them. White House officials did not respond to requests for a comment on Mr. Trump’s discussion of the issue.

And yet on this very forum we have posters (mentioning no names - woof!) who claim that Trump isn't desperate for approval, he hits out at his critics because of his bullish nature Hmm

Roussette · 24/01/2017 13:24

What bollocks! He is beyond thin skinned. It's part of his personality. He needs adulation and adoration and cannot bear not to 'win'. I knew someone just like this once, it was beyond ridiculous how he operated. Always having to be the winner.

Can you imagine DT in bed? He'd forever want you to be saying 'yeah baby, you're the best, yeah yeah'. (Apologies if you're eating your lunch!)

SuburbanRhonda · 24/01/2017 13:46

Maybe that's why his speeches are littered with words like "great", "amazing" (or "very amazing", as he said the other day), "beautiful", and so on. And why he has to constantly compare himself with others, rather than allow his own ideas to stand on their own merits.

I don't imagine his ego will ever recover from losing the popular vote so spectacularly.

Rousette he could only be talking like that to himself Grin

AcrossthePond55 · 24/01/2017 14:26

It's just another indicator that he saw this whole thing as simply a popularity contest, not a true political mandate. And that he still expects to be applauded for his every 'performance' like a toilet-training toddler who manages to do a poo in the potty.

I tremble to think what his reaction is going to be when he starts meeting the world leaders who, when he demands their agreement to his 'America First' policies, tell him 'not only no, but HELL no!'.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 24/01/2017 14:38

Tumpie is such a rich source of entertainment and amazement, it's going to be so gloriously satisfying when all his fuck ups lead to a final humiliation and downfall

that has to be the ending...doesnt it

BigBadgers · 24/01/2017 14:58

Have you guys read this? It is rich trump supporters talking about how mean all those extreme liberals are for telling them they are racists. They are all the victims really. Apparently people were fired and persecuted for voting Trump (which is completely different to firing and persecuting immigrants for being foriegn...) Hmm

Like the line about him mistaking an iud for a tiny pen for his tiny hands

SanFranBear · 24/01/2017 15:52

Wow - my two fabourite comments from that link that BigBadgers posted:

I don’t want people to come over here and drop out of their mother and they’re automatically a citizen

Hillary is the embodiment of evil

Will be interesting as the journalist is saying she's going to track these voters over the next four years to see if they get buyers remorse.

coldcanary · 24/01/2017 16:26

There's a video doing the rounds that I can't link to (stupid phone). There's a moment between trump and his wife at the inauguration where he turns round, says something to her and the smile she had one her face just drops off. Whatever he says to her it's enough to make her look really sad. I'll try and link it again.

Spudlet · 24/01/2017 16:33

I read that too. Mind boggling. Turkeys voting for Christmas or what?!

squishysquirmy · 24/01/2017 16:37

To be fair to the people interviewed in Bigbadger's link, I do think it's awful (not to mention completely counter-productive) that anyone receives death threats and abuse for the way they voted. It looks like they've gone out of their way to get a cross section of wealthy supporters there (from the normal sounding all the way to religious nut), and it will be very interesting to see a follow up article in a few years time.

Lweji · 24/01/2017 17:27

This video?
twitchy.com/brettt-3136/2017/01/23/seconds-long-clip-of-melania-trump-proof-of-troubled-marriage

It looks like Ivanka also goes serious. While Trump has a satisfied smirk.

amispartacus · 24/01/2017 17:50

I really really hope he checks the dates on things more carefully. He's tweeted a picture of his inaugaration to be hung in the press hall. Unfortunately it's the wrong date
