Please, I am slow of wit, only thinking of witty retorts after 2 or 3 months. I have a US friend who is a lone voice of reason in a sea of Trumpettes. She posts daily about the stupid things he's done and yesterday I made a comment "He told the CIA, "I'm like a smart person!" (I was hoping the stupidity of that comment to the CIA would be self evident)

And one of his acolytes posted "They already knew that!" (He is serious, just to be clear).

Anyone got a good reply? The man will flounce, he flounces when I have a good reply. I'd really like to have a morning Trumpette flounce with my coffee. Wink

Formerpigwrestler9 · 24/01/2017 10:06

Did he mean he resembles a smart person?
Or was that 'like' in the 'valley girl speak' sense?

Roussette · 24/01/2017 10:07

"Have you actually read his rambling incoherent speech? I have."

Then post a link to the written version which is on this thread somewhere!

If the former then I can't see any resemblance
He looks stupid, he says stupid things
In what way does he resemble a smart person?

Lweji · 24/01/2017 10:10

Jared is an official adviser, unlike Ivanka. She'll be a nice housewife. Hmm

Ask that guy if he realises that "like a smart person" is to impersonate one. And that you're sure the CIA indeed already knew that he is like one, but not one.
Sometimes he speaks the truth.

I imagine they're taking a hard-earned break before starting work on Arron Banks' new political party/movement in the UK. That or working for his "news" site I mentioned above, newly set up to to feed the Banks/Barron/Farage message to the Great British Public.

I'm expecting a tidal wave of them back on MN when the grand movement gets going.

amispartacus · 24/01/2017 10:12

Tweeting with Trump supporters is fascinating. I think it's going to be my new sport.

PausingFlatly · 24/01/2017 10:15

The MN Trumpettes, who appeared as if by magic just before the election, that is and after Brexit, when they were busy working on that.

Destinysdaughter · 24/01/2017 10:19

Good on Ewan Macgregor, he refused to go on Good Morning when he realised it was co hosted by Piers Morgan, following his disparaging remarks about the women's march!

Roussette · 24/01/2017 10:20

amispartacus I've fancied that too but I'm not sure my blood pressure could cope!

Yes it is remarkably quiet Trumpette wise. Strange.

The MN Trumpettes
I wonder if we should give them a more general label, given that their work concerns the promotion of various figures in addition to Trump?

PausingFlatly · 24/01/2017 10:23

FuckOffDM, hmm, not good at witty retorts here, either.

How about, "I'm sure the CIA know lots of things about Trump that no one listening to him would guess."

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 24/01/2017 10:24

Trump is like a smart person, in the sense that smart people also breathe oxygen and are affected by the laws of gravity. Okay, the similarity ends there but it wasn't a completely inaccurate statement. It was just an alternative fact. Alpen!

Lweji · 24/01/2017 10:24

How about Putin's trolls?

amispartacus · 24/01/2017 10:25

I've fancied that too but I'm not sure my blood pressure could cope

It's quite amazing how people can deny what's in front of their faces. If I had to teach psychology, critical thinking etc, this would be the perfect opportunity to demonstrate it.

DS is being taught it though. I might show him the press conference clips and ask him what he thinks is happening.

Lweji · 24/01/2017 10:27

Ewan Mcgregor. ❤❤❤❤❤

Formerpigwrestler9 · 24/01/2017 10:28

How about Putin's trolls?
Possibly too explicit?

PausingFlatly · 24/01/2017 10:30

There were clearly actual long term MNers who supported Trump, and who repeated the memes being chucked at them but otherwise took normal part in the life of the site (and not just for cover!).

But yes, I think it's worth making a distinction with the sort of posters who turned up just for political campaigning, behaved like professional politicos and - notably - disappeared the moment they'd got what they wanted. As you say, not just re Trump.

Formerpigwrestler9 · 24/01/2017 10:35

There were gurus and there were acolytes, unwitting acolytes

Destinysdaughter · 24/01/2017 10:39

Does anyone know what happened to Claig...?

SanFranBear · 24/01/2017 10:39

The thing is that the executive order around abortion has been brought into law by every Republican president since Reagan and repealed by every Democrat since then, so it's not new.

However, it seems so sinister and look at the way Mike Pence is looking so very pleased with this. Does seem to show the direction old DT is going on this issue though as I know he's flip flopped like a fucker on it. It is telling there isn't a woman present though although I did watch the ex Governor of Arizona (woman) last night say she was delighted and whilst it's a controversial area, this is what the Republican Party stand for.

It pisses me off so much for the reason mavis states so well - but then it's America First, isn't it? Bastards!!

PausingFlatly · 24/01/2017 10:43

Um. Is this the right place to say that I think there's been an attempt to "capture" parts of the feminist movement? On MN and off?

By harnessing justified anger, and research and analysis, and "nudging" it or offering "support" - but in carefully chosen directions?

I'm not sure I can justify this statement. It's hard to say whether individual examples add up to a concerted attempt. It's just an impression I got... and am now keeping a weather eye out for.

amispartacus · 24/01/2017 10:45

Um. Is this the right place to say that I think there's been an attempt to "capture" parts of the feminist movement? On MN and off

Social media is an interesting place, isn't it...

Lweji · 24/01/2017 10:45

There were clearly actual long term MNers who supported Trump, and who repeated the memes being chucked at them but otherwise took normal part in the life of the site (and not just for cover!).

That is what Putin's stooges are instructed to do.

How do you know it's not "for cover"?

I've done a search of the most vocal Trumpettes and bar Ivanka, they had all disappeared by the 6th of January within a few days.
Yes, there were a few long term posters who supported Trump, but with a different pattern.

Lweji · 24/01/2017 10:47

The thing is that the executive order around abortion has been brought into law by every Republican president since Reagan and repealed by every Democrat since then, so it's not new.

Apparently so. It's still sad, though. Particularly considering it was so high up in their order of priorities.

I just hope it doesn't signal something worse.
