"Constant theme to undercut the enormous support that he has."

Perhaps if you didn't lie.........

And he's very eloquently going on and on about how thin skinned Trump is. Utter bollocks. Trump's pissed and they're trying to do damage control. I await Patriot Barbie coming out at some point to clarify what Angry Spice has said. Because they're not usually happy unless at least 3 people have "clarified" (read that as fine-tuned based on ongoing critiques) what was said.

GingerIvy · 23/01/2017 20:00

And this was no surprise. Trump has stock in the pipeline. How is that not a conflict of interest? www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-press-conference-dakota-access-pipline-sean-spicer-white-house-a7542481.html

My favourite ever episode of the West Wing was the one in which this conversation happened :

BARTLET
It's good. They only cut two billion and shifted half a billion from the
Sub Saharan
to Western Europe because I guess the crippling hunger in Provence has given
the
lactose intolerant a problem with-- I don't know but I can live with all that.

ABBEY
Good.

BARTLET
Clancy Bangart attached an amendment.

ABBEY
Stipulating what?

BARTLET
Stipulating that Foreign Ops dollars wouldn't go to any overseas clinics
that council
abortion.

BARTLET
There's a handful, a handful and a half of cranky conservative Senators who
want this
stuff, and were waiting to pounce. It's what happened.

ABBEY
Clancy wants to reinstate the gag rule.

ABBEY
It's not that the money can't go to clinics that perform abortions. It's
that it can't
go to clinics that talk about abortions...

ABBEY
So we're for freedom of speech everywhere, but poor countries where they
can have our
help but only if they live up to Clancy Bangart's moral standards? What the
hell kind
of free world are you running?

GingerIvy · 23/01/2017 20:04

Prince Charles has been VERY vocal about climate change lately. Coincidence??? I think not. This could prove interesting.

Prince Charles v Donald Trump. I dunno - verbally I suspect Prince Charles could take him. He can at least string an entire sentence together with words of more than 2 syllables, so he's already ahead of the game.

GingerIvy · 23/01/2017 20:06

What the hell kind of free world are you running?

Well, that's it, isn't it? I note someone was quoted (repeatedly ) on Fox News about how "pro-life" weren't invited to the women's march because the marchers didn't want women to have a choice in what to believe. Hmm That is the most ass-backwards thing I've ever heard. Most pro-choice people are not about forcing abortion on anyone else, just saying everyone should be able to make their own choice. It's the "pro-lifers" that tend to say "no, one choice and one choice only - have the baby, no matter what."

GingerIvy · 23/01/2017 20:08

And no, I don't want to get into an abortion debate on here. I (obviously) am pro-choice. I've never had an abortion and don't know if I could actually go through with one, but IMO that doesn't mean I have the right to decide for other people. I respect the fact that those that go by "pro-life" feel they are wrong. I am conflicted personally, but I will defend to the last the right of women to choose.

KittensWithWeapons · 23/01/2017 20:12

Well quite, Ginger. If men were the ones who got pregnant, abortion would be freely available to all men.

I'm laughing at Patriot Barbie and Angry Spice. Well, I am, but it's not really funny. It's a few days in to the Trump presidency and I'm already fucking horrified. Sorry, I know this is supposed to be a sarcastic, funny thread, but I'm not sure I'm able to find humour amid the horror anymore.

amispartacus · 23/01/2017 20:14

It looks like Trump has rescinded the policy on organisations that promote abortions. The Mexico City policy.

GingerIvy · 23/01/2017 20:19

Kittens I know, it's terrifying. I use the nicknames to keep from getting really angry or just fucking despairing.

Trump - Dark Emperor Trump
Pence - Darth Pence
Sean Spicer - Angry Spice
Whatever the hell that woman's actual name that Katyanne or whatever that wore that godawful outfit - Patriot Barbie.

Grin It's the little things that bring me joy.

PausingFlatly · 23/01/2017 20:23

"Constant theme to undercut the enormous support that he has."

To draw on the great Helen Suzman: "It's not my questions that undercut your support, it's your answers."

Hi all - we are thinking of moving to Reigate in Surrey, but we don't know the area very well at all. Does anyone have any tips on the good parts to live and where to avoid (if any)? We have a 6 month old son so although a bit early we are looking to buy a house in areas near good schools.

Thanks for your help xxx

amispartacus · 23/01/2017 20:26

Is he retracting his claim that Trump’s inauguration was the largest crowd ever in person?

That’s not what I said, says Spicer.

Did you mean in person and around the globe?

I meant total audence; both in persona nda round the globe, says Spicer.

You’re saying both together?

“That’s literally what I said ... I don’t know how you can interpret it differently.”

You’re not saying in person?

“I am not. I am saying it was the total largest audience witnessed in person and around the globe.”

His original quote in full from Saturday was:

Inaccurate numbers involving crowd size were also tweeted. No one had numbers, because the National Park Service, which controls the National Mall, does not put any out. By the way, this applies to any attempts to try to count the number of protestors today in the same fashion.

We do know a few things, so let’s go through the facts. We know that from the platform where the President was sworn in, to 4th Street, it holds about 250,000 people. From 4th Street to the media tent is about another 220,000. And from the media tent to the Washington Monument, another 250,000 people. All of this space was full when the President took the Oath of Office. We know that 420,000 people used the D.C. Metro public transit yesterday, which actually compares to 317,000 that used it for President Obama’s last inaugural. This was the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration <span class="line-through"> period </span> both in person and around the globe. Even the New York Times printed a photograph showing a misrepresentation of the crowd in the original Tweet in their paper, which showed the full extent of the support, depth in crowd, and intensity that existed.

So why go on about the CROWD size when he apparently was talking about the audience size? Why make a point about it in the briefing and the CIA?

And..who had the biggest audience at the actual inaugaration? Obama in 2009 or Trump in 2017?

But apparently statistics and numbers don't matter to Trump Grin

amispartacus · 23/01/2017 20:28

The schools in Surrey are the best. The best. So good. And the prices. Unbelievably cheap. So cheap #alternativefacts

(or the wrong topic?) Sorry..

OnionKnight · 23/01/2017 20:30

Trump has still not resigned from his biz.

KittensWithWeapons · 23/01/2017 20:31

Yes, exactly, Ginger. I am very pro-choice. I have a relative who is very pro-life. The difference being that they want to impose their beliefs on everyone, and deny all women the right to a termination. I just want all women to be free to make their own decisions.

I've never, ever encouraged anyone to have an abortion. I have travelled with women, from Ireland to the UK, to assist them in having an abortion that they want. I've taken time off work, held hands, arranged lifts to and from the airport.

I've seen how traumatic the experience can be for some women. I've been through it myself. So if I was organising a pro-choice event, no, I certainly wouldn't invite pro-lifers. Who would push their views on us.

That was a long winded way of agreeing with you Grin

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 20:31

Well, Catherine, I think Reigate is lovely, tremendous, a terrific place, but you're gonna need a wall to keep out those nasty Redhill folks that are taking our jobs and cleaning our houses and doing the gardening. But schools will be great, wonderful, very very tremendous, whats-her-name, Betsy, will see to that.

InformalRoman · 23/01/2017 20:33

Sorry Catherine, I'm sure both Reigate and Redhill are lovely.

BigBadgers · 23/01/2017 20:33

Is Angry Spice now trying to give us alternative facts about his alternative facts? Does he really expect everyone to go 'Oh yeah right, well now you've explained you actually meant something completly different to what you said we will believe every word out of your mouth from now on.'

What a crock of shit he his.

KittensWithWeapons · 23/01/2017 20:37

That was a long winded way of agreeing with your previous post.

Oh, if we're adopting nicknames to cope, Kellyanne Conway is The Majorette / Nutcracker Wink

originalmavis · 23/01/2017 20:37

He won't last. He looks like he is about to spontaneously combust.
