As requested from a previous thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2823906-to-think-you-should-ignore-people-having-a-go-at-you-if-you-are-the-President-Elect-of-the-USA?

It's going to be a beautiful thread. MNers, who by the way are amazing, can contribute as much as they want.

"It's a fact that at some travel outlets at the airports, it will cost you more than a £1 to buy you a Euro.

A beautiful fact. Take a fact and use it as a headline to make a point."

Well yes it will cost about £4, because of their £3 fee. But that's not news.

Queenie04 · 17/01/2017 22:18

This is my contribution, not sure if it's true or not. As a half Kenyan I hold my head in shame Grin

You did see the main headline in the Independent?

www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/theresa-may-brexit-speech-pound-sterling-jump-single-market-eu-european-union-exit-a7531216.html

It's a big headline. An amazing headline. Still, I can see how you might have missed that headline. It was big though, so big.

So, is Trump actually Kenyan? Has he presented his birth certificate anywhere? Is it hidden away with his tax returns?

Twogoats · 17/01/2017 22:27

He's half Scottish Sad

Bluesrunthegame · 17/01/2017 22:30

Trump's a beautiful Kenyan, his tax returns are Kenyan, he's got a beautiful tax return.

OnlyHereForTheCamping · 17/01/2017 22:48

FALSE KENYAN

Destinysdaughter · 17/01/2017 22:49

God this program about Trump's family background is not inspiring me with much confidence about him....

roseshippy · 17/01/2017 22:50

"you did see the main headline in the Independent?"

Yet the most read story is not that one, it's the fake news that the pound is worth less than a euro (which isn't true, and wasn't true when the story was published (it was published at 09:08 on the 16th, when the pound was worth €1.137, higher than it was in October))

amispartacus · 17/01/2017 23:05

Probably because people like you are linking to it and then people click on it.

Click bait - I believe other papers do that as well.

Take an element of truth and spin it. Not good. Not good.

The Independent story is about airport tourist exchange rates, which are always poor. You are talking about the inter bank rates. Two different things. And the report is in the Travel Advice section, not Business.

I always find it best to read the article rather than jump to conclusions based on the headline.

You sound like someone who reads more than 140 characters. So good.

OP posts:
InformalRoman · 17/01/2017 23:14

And given that the article quotes both the airport tourist rate and the interbank rate (facts) how can that be fake news? It's a misleading headline, but the article is factual.

Destinysdaughter · 17/01/2017 23:19

This thread isn't fun anymore Sad

amispartacus · 17/01/2017 23:20

Wait till we play inaugaration bingo Grin

If you have to take a drink every time a buzzword is mentioned then there will be some very pissed people, especially if Trump goes off piste from his script Grin

Destinysdaughter · 17/01/2017 23:35

I'm not sure I can bear to watch it tbh.

Lweji · 18/01/2017 05:06

We can also have hand bingo.

The thumb up
The index finger up
The index finger and thumb making an O
The accordion
The small sign
The pointing forward
The pointing up
The gun
Showing the size of his hands (and a mention of how the rest is also proportional)

Straight bingo for any small cat grabbing.

As for facial expressions, I've got:

the pout
the Jabba smile
the howler monkey
the beaver teeth
the troll hair (with any luck there's some wind)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2017 07:14

I won't be able to play.

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 18/01/2017 07:22

I'm not sure I can bear to watch it tbh.

I could watch live on Friday, as I have the day off, but I can't decide whether it's more important to watch this historically awful car crash or whether I should avoid, as watching tacitly suggests approval. Decisions, decisions. Also, it might get my weekend off to a depressing start.

Lweji · 18/01/2017 07:35

I think we should watch.
Just in case divine lightning strikes him.

It's a shame we can't protest via TV. In spot a gap in the interactive market.

BigBadgers · 18/01/2017 07:42

I think I might just follow the live thread on the guardian. That way I get to enjoy the fun, but through a paper that is obviously completely not supporting the beautiful new president and spreading absolutely not true stories. Fake News! Sad!!!!

Plus I will be working and don't have a TV. Also as I don't drink can I swap alcohol for chocolate in the Great Trumperama Bingo Match

LahLahsBigBand · 18/01/2017 07:49

hand bingo

You're very smart Lweji. The smartest. You have the best bingo ideas. The best.

For us in Europe, the oath is at 5pm. The great concerts will be in the evening, on the 19th.
