As requested from a previous thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2823906-to-think-you-should-ignore-people-having-a-go-at-you-if-you-are-the-President-Elect-of-the-USA?

It's going to be a beautiful thread. MNers, who by the way are amazing, can contribute as much as they want.

Yes, we understand that, but it's part of the Inaugural celebrations for this President. Which happens to be Trump.
In the same way that all other Inaugural related celebrations. They happen regardless of who the President is.
And some people would rather not be associated in any way with the Inauguration of this particular President.
It's a way of showing discontent and opposition to his behaviour and political positions.
Should the Ball be the New Jersey Ball, and not an "Inaugural Gala", I'm sure there wouldn't have been any problems.

The beautiful wall has become a bit of a catchphrase in our office

My DD built one between her and her work colleague at the next desk (little bit like The Office and the one Tim built between him and Gareth). She sent me a pic, it was a thing of beauty!

roseshippy · 17/01/2017 19:39

"Yes, we understand that, but it's part of the Inaugural celebrations for this President. "

It's not, in fact, an official part of the inaugural celebrations.

It's a scheduled event with a large budget and sponsors planned well in advance, which most people would have anticipated taking place for Hillary Clinton.

And it doesn't change the fact that the Independent is fake news, as the article linked to above: www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/donald-trump-inauguration-line-up-bands-singers-performers-the-make-america-great-again-welcome-a7529306.html

says

"Following the introduction, “The Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration” will run, "

"The B Street Band, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band, were booked to play"

which is a total fucking lie by fake news scum.

They were NOT booked to play at ANY official event, they were booked for a private gala which has no connection to Trump.

roseshippy · 17/01/2017 19:42

It's such a fucking cancerous shitty scumrag of a paper.

There's a sidebar of shite, from that article I see:

"Pound sterling slumps below euro"

yet it's actually at €1.16 and hasn't been below €1.10 since 2008.

amispartacus · 17/01/2017 19:47

It's a fact that at some travel outlets at the airports, it will cost you more than a £1 to buy you a Euro.

A beautiful fact. Take a fact and use it as a headline to make a point. Good thing that Trump doesn't do that.

Just watching C4 news and was struck by the height of Trump tower in New York. Penis substitute perhaps...? Grin

Lweji · 17/01/2017 19:48

I wonder if the wall will also be a thing of "soft sensuality".

Trump seems to be particularly twitchy today. Maybe due to all the people who said they won't be part of any celebration associated with this Inauguration.

BTW, I don't know if this is fake news or not Wink, but it seems that he's particularly worried about people turn out at the Mall.
It seems he's placed a Facebook ad to ask for ages 27+ to attend.

gothamist.com/2017/01/17/trump_despy_softly_sensual.php

He's even issued a personal video plea:

He just makes it up as he goes.
I bet in his world the £ is at 0.1 euros one day and 10 euros the next.

Destinysdaughter · 17/01/2017 19:53

Ooh new allegations coming in...?

amispartacus · 17/01/2017 19:58

I love how Ivanka (a council worker and Labour supporter from Brighton) replied to Trump's misdirected tweet by mentioning climate change.

If ever you had an opportunity to make a point, that was the chance.

I would loved to have seen her face in the morning.

1000 notifications. Donald Trump has mentioned you on Twitter Grin

Destinysdaughter got any links for this? Channel 4 news ended as press conference was just starting.

Lweji · 17/01/2017 20:03

When you don't have the Don, you have the Vlad:

"Vladimir Putin: 'Our prostitutes are the best in the world, but I doubt Donald Trump would fall for them'"

"He arrived here and immediately ran off to meet Moscow prostitutes?"
"This is an adult and, moreover, a man who for many years has organised beauty contests. He socialized with the most beautiful women in the world. I can hardly imagine he rushed to the hotel to meet our girls of lower social responsibility -even though they are the best in the world, of course."

Yes, and he went backstage just to see them naked. What a responsible adult.

FarAwayHills · 17/01/2017 20:07

Trump to be sued by woman who accused him of sexual assault. I can imagine his next tweet.

SausageFarmer · 17/01/2017 20:08

Needs a knife to the heart before he royally fucks America

amispartacus · 17/01/2017 20:13

I'm no fan of Theresa May or the Tories but I glad we have a leader who isn't Trump. Her speech was - well, it wasn't like Trump.

It seems she's an ex-Apprentice contestant and they will be asking for outtakes from the Apprentice to be made available.

woman12345 · 17/01/2017 20:16

Lweji and children hear that man talking like that, it is testing my patience.

FarAwayHills · 17/01/2017 20:17

People are pouring into Washington in record numbers. Bikers for Trump are on their way. It will be a great Thursday, Friday and Saturday!

woman12345 · 17/01/2017 20:20

FarAwayHills Gloria Allred lawyer is holding a press conference now in LA, accuser is taking the case forward.
"At least 13 women, including the president-elect’s first wife, have accused Trump of forcibly kissing, inappropriately touching or looking at them, or worse".
The first wife accusation is particularly important. She had to sign an agreement to keep silent about it. It's documented in this article:
www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/10/24/documenting-trumps-abuse-of-women
"Trump’s divorce from his first wife, Ivana. Hurt obtained a copy of her sworn divorce deposition, from 1990, in which she stated that, the previous year, her husband had raped her in a fit of rage. In Hurt’s account, Trump was furious that a “scalp reduction” operation he’d undergone to eliminate a bald spot had been unexpectedly painful. Ivana had recommended the plastic surgeon. In retaliation, Hurt wrote, Trump yanked out a handful of his wife’s hair, and then forced himself on her sexually. Afterward, according to the book, she spent the night locked in a bedroom, crying; in the morning, Trump asked her, “with menacing casualness, ‘Does it hurt?’ ” Trump has denied both the rape allegation and the suggestion that he had a scalp-reduction procedure. Hurt said that the incident, which is detailed in Ivana’s deposition, was confirmed by two of her friends"
.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/01/2017 20:22

he is scrunching up his right eye in that video and blinking more than usual. Stress tells?

Lweji · 17/01/2017 20:33

The comments under the video are well worth reading.

BigBadgers · 17/01/2017 21:17

I am quite disgusted by the fact I can't decide whether Trump would be more upset by his ex wife revealing he raped her or that he had scalp reduction surgery. God, I'm depressed by it all.

originalmavis · 17/01/2017 21:37

I'd go with the hair-gate. I'm shocked. It looks so natural. So lifelike.

As for the other allegations - well duh, is the Pope Catholic?

Destinysdaughter · 17/01/2017 22:04

C4 now, program about Trump family history. Shd be interesting...

amispartacus · 17/01/2017 22:14

Watching yesterday's Daily Politics show - Gove is being quizzed about his interview.

He said 'they wanted the best newspaper in the UK' to be there. Then they said 'And they sent you - not an experienced journalist'.

Poor Micheal. People can't take him seriously either.
