As requested from a previous thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2823906-to-think-you-should-ignore-people-having-a-go-at-you-if-you-are-the-President-Elect-of-the-USA?

It's going to be a beautiful thread. MNers, who by the way are amazing, can contribute as much as they want.

Shall I start a new thread and link to it? Or could anyone else... I don't want to step on AmIspartacus's toes!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/01/2017 14:19

we certainly need a new thread!

AcrossthePond55 · 21/01/2017 14:26

At work yesterday DS2 was told by a coworker that he hoped the police fired rubber bullets at the 'protesters' attending today's Rally at our state capitol. DS2 told co-worker that he, DH, a family friend, and I will be there and said "So, you're saying you hope that my parents and I get hit with rubber bullets, then?". Co-worker told him "Well, not YOU of course, just 'the others'". Stupid Git.

It's frightening. I hear so many echoes of, if not the events leading up to Nazi Germany, then echoes of the American Nationalism/Isolationism of the late 30's/early 40's that could have so easily led us down a similar path.

But I am not keeping in the spirit of this 'beautiful thread'.

Trump is a bellend. Bragadocia was close. But his name should really be 'Trumpleforeskin'.

originalmavis · 21/01/2017 14:30

So no right to protest? That all sounds very.. Soviet??

AlwaysTheWinner · 21/01/2017 14:33

President Fart and a plank of wood Grin

Feel bad that I didn't organise myself to go on a march today. And wondering if I will live long enough to see a woman President. I've worked out that if I live to be 100 there will be 15 US elections in that time, so here's hoping!

Roussette · 21/01/2017 14:41

OK, I'll start a new thread, only because there are few posts left on this one!

(Hope you don't mind amispartacus !)

HERE IT IS!

I need the support of all you beautiful people to get through this!

Roussette · 21/01/2017 14:43

Awww acrossthepond well done you and family for marching and what an arse your work colleague is!

Yes, very soviet to shut down Twitter in that Department, I wonder if that will spread?

(New thread link above)

It would be fabulous if Trump himself would adopt the same policy...

AcrossthePond55 · 21/01/2017 17:43

Thanks, Roussette. Right now it feels as if there is so little we can do.

I remember as a teen going to anti-Viet Nam protests, rallies. I remember making phone calls, writing letters, passing leaflets. It felt then as if we could move the world. And I think we did move it a little. Now that I am (age redacted) I feel almost powerless to stop the incoming wave of intolerance, isolationism, and greed. But I will do what I can, and I will remind the youth of today that the future belongs to them. That they need to be politically active. It isn't enough to protest. You have to campaign, watch your elected officials and make them hear your voice, speak your truth through media platforms. And VOTE.

Between Trump and Brexit, the people of the US and UK need to be united as never before.

Hands linked across the water.

Thanks for starting the new thread. I can confirm that I've authorised that thread. I've used my OP executive powers to allow this new thread. It will be a great thread. So great. All other threads are FAKE.

London march today was beautiful and huge Grin! Looks like Chicago and Washington and the 670(!) marches and 2.5 million women who marched in cities round the world were too!
Got a feeling there will be many more [SanFranBear ] and [BigBadgers]
Think it was another, rather good US president who said that we have nothing to fear but fear itself.Smile

woman12345 · 21/01/2017 19:29

hands across the water too.
Lovely to have people from US, Spain, South America, Pakistan, Caribbean, typical London people really, on the London march.

MycatsaPirate · 21/01/2017 19:37
