Why do older American women disfigure their faces?

I watched the first episode of Real Marigold Hotel on Tour - Florida today.
It was excellent.
But, wtaf have those American women done to their faces? and how can they possibly think they look good, or younger? Do they have different mirrors to the rest of us?
How can their surgeons possibly think they've done a good job?
Miriam and Clarissa actually looked younger and more attractive in comparison.

44.20 onwards.

Blimey, it's not just American women to be fair.

I was in Kensington a couple of weeks ago and thought it had been invaded by aliens crossed with a couple of cats.

Very strange look indeed.

BurnTheBlackSuit · 28/12/2016 18:42

They looked frightening. An older face is not an ugly face.

Blossomdeary · 28/12/2016 18:43

Yes - it was a bit grim. Quite beyond belief that they really think that they look good. And what a waste of money. I feel slightly sickened by the surgeons who exploit these women, especially as they finish up looking so freaky.

I also call into question the idea that only young is beautiful and that any signs of aging should be "dealt with." I worked in photography and some of the loveliest photos that I took were of older people with their characterful faces.

A case of more money than sense.

It's telling that on hearing' you don't look your age', one responds - 'it's because we all use the same doctor'. Yep, and he's making you all look like identical plastic dolls with over-plumped cheeks and startled eyes Sad.

MrsDustyBusty · 28/12/2016 18:48

Well, I'm not sure whether they think it looks good or whether it's the accepted expensive look for women of a certain age and wealth.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 28/12/2016 18:50

I wonder what 70+ people will look like in 20 years time

It's wasn't long ago that we thought those American actresses who had plastic surgery looked ridiculous now not being able to move your forehead and having cat like cheeks is the norm if you are on screen

I can think of very few where it isn't obvious

notsmelliesagain · 28/12/2016 18:51

Sharon Osborne, by her own admission has had a lot of work done. But she doesn't look freakish.
I don't get it, do these women go too far or what?

I think it is look a type of uniform

OhStuffingBalls · 28/12/2016 18:54

Sharon Osborne DOES look weird, sorry.

Cat eyes and big plump filled cheeks. She looks very very odd.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 28/12/2016 18:55

I don't know. They all have an air of mummification about them. Some of them look like they've had their skin stretched paper thin.
Sharon Osborne is a good one to mention! She has had work done, but I wonder if it's a combination of a really good surgeon and naturally good skin anyway. No amount of surgery can change having low levels of collagen in your skin due to aging. You just end up looking very fake!

Dawndonnaagain · 28/12/2016 18:56

I thought some of them looked very odd.

OP, it's Rosemary, not Clarissa.

Shockers · 28/12/2016 18:57

I saw Nicole Kidman on tv a couple of weeks ago. She is looking a little odd now, in an 'had work' kind of way.

Which is a shame because she had the kind of face that I feel would have aged with elegance.

Beebeeeight · 28/12/2016 18:57

it's not just older women

Younger women are starting to all look the same- straight bleached hair, extensions, big fake eyebrows, fake tan, straightened noses, veneers, fake boobs. Thin.

So many identikit women.

Blokes are allowed to just 'be'.

TheNaze73 · 28/12/2016 18:58

I think it's looks great & fair play to them. No different from dying your hair

notsmelliesagain · 28/12/2016 18:59

Sharon O must have good skin to start with, so the surgeon is improving on what she already has.
The women on that program definitely had a mummified look about them.

It was fascinating. In a horrible way.

Looks freaky to me.

steff13 · 28/12/2016 18:59

Unfortunate plastic surgery is not exclusive to American women.

notsmelliesagain · 28/12/2016 19:00

Oops Rosemary.

It is odd, when you look at the likes of Madonna or Nicole Kidman, because it really doesn't make them look younger. They look strange because they have no wrinkles yet don't look young so they look a little bit alien and unnerving. I really don't see the point as you can't turn back the clock.

NancyDonahue · 28/12/2016 19:08

Courteney Cox was always so beautiful and I'm sure would still be very beautiful now without any surgery. Better than she actually looks anyway. She's only 52.

Why do older American women disfigure their faces?
glitterandtinsel · 28/12/2016 19:09

Filler does look dreadful. Spreads the mouth wider and closes the eyes. The spread filler into the bit above the upper lip smoothing it flat. Weird dead non moving faces.

KatherinaMinola · 28/12/2016 19:12

Yes, Worra - those few stops between Green Park and South Ken are very educational.

MVF1 · 28/12/2016 19:15

Some were OTT but some looked I thought. Let's face it the two brits hardly looked great without plastic surgery

MVF1 · 28/12/2016 19:16

Ok
