Why do older American women disfigure their faces?

notsmelliesagain · 28/12/2016 18:35

I watched the first episode of Real Marigold Hotel on Tour - Florida today.
It was excellent.
But, wtaf have those American women done to their faces? and how can they possibly think they look good, or younger? Do they have different mirrors to the rest of us?
How can their surgeons possibly think they've done a good job?
Miriam and Clarissa actually looked younger and more attractive in comparison.

44.20 onwards.

I think they look really weird too. Sharon Osbourne looks peculiar to me.

I'm sure that a little bit of plastic surgery done well could look good but the 'overdone' celebs look awful.

Some celebs look great because they are naturally good looking with good features but I can't understand why some of them go overboard with the tweaking.

JellyWitch · 28/12/2016 19:18

It was pretty shocking wasn't it. Why would anyone want to do that to themself?

MrsJayy · 28/12/2016 19:19

The women in the other retirement place looked like ordinary older women the richer women were terrifying and why do they look like siamese cats 😨

FannyWisdom · 28/12/2016 19:20

I adore MM and wanted her to tell the knob off some more.

If I had so much money I would do it. I've already got a contingency list of surgery to have should I win zillions.
I'd have a new part yearly.

MrsJayy · 28/12/2016 19:21

Oh btw it was Rosemary Shrager

notsmelliesagain · 28/12/2016 19:22

Yes, the women in the first retirement home looked as if they concentrated mainly on exercise and healthy eating to stay youthful, whereas the richer women were trying to pay their way onto the beauty train.
The vullture Doctors must be rubbing their hands with glee.

To be honest I think Sharon osbourne looks fine now, but I do think Courtney COX looks strange, but she's admitted going to far. Neither women hid their work.

Madonna I also think looks fine, but has went through weird stages, but for some reason I find tom cruise getting creepy. It's not just women, men do it too,

MrsMozart · 28/12/2016 19:24

I remember watching one of the later evening plastic surgery programmes - there was a chap on there who was late fifties and gorgeous in a slightly crinkle-eyed way. Very attractive indeed. Then he had surgery... Was really most disappointing when we saw him again. All flat and smooth and yuck. Obviously it doesn't matter what I think of him, but he didn't look too happy with himself.

notsmelliesagain · 28/12/2016 19:24

Miriam was hilarious. I love her wit and hope we see more of her on tv.

I wouldn't be against having a little bit of work done, but I would know when to stop and would definitely keep some laughter lines at least.

Sorry xposted i see you stood corrected op Smile

VladmirsPoutine · 28/12/2016 19:26

It's all quite sad. What's wrong with wrinkles and grey hair? I don't look like I did when I was 25 and I'm fine with that Hmm

lottieandmia · 28/12/2016 19:26

If they are happy with how they look then who is anyone else to judge? In places like LA this sort of thing is part of the culture. Shaming them for how they look is no better than shaming someone who looks naturally old.

lottieandmia · 28/12/2016 19:26

Maybe you are fine with that Vlad - not everyone has to be the same as you.

CaraAspen · 28/12/2016 19:27

They look like Siamese cats because the skin is stretched across their faces.

MrsJayy · 28/12/2016 19:28

That woman in the polo club place said she had her facelift a short while she didnt look right 70odd with smooth skin. MM was hilarious and irritating at the same time how can somebody be both Confused

bibbitybobbityyhat · 28/12/2016 19:32

But, lotte, the whole point is that these people (men and women) do not look younger. They just look like people who have had fillers, thus drawing your attention to how old they are.

I think full face lifts look better, tbh, than all this tinkering.

VQ1970 · 28/12/2016 19:34

I thought they all looked awful, their faces were so stretched and all so similar.

I thought Rosemary looked great after her bit of filler but I'm not sure if that's just because she'd put a bit of make up on and had her hair blow dried so had generally made more of an effort. The make up and hair would have probably made a difference to her look without the filler.

Lorelei76 · 28/12/2016 19:35

I was in a posh shop today, not something I've done for years. I was at the till with my friend and two women were ahead of us, so their backs were turned.

Something funny happened and made everyone in the queue look at each other while laughing, these two women were, we think, laughing, but honestly they had so much whatever in their faces it looked really odd. This may be regular among posh shop clientele as my friend said she sees faces like that all the time!

Zaya00 · 28/12/2016 19:35

Worra - did you really think people in Kensington look like freaks Grin
We live in Kensington and I do admit things like Botox are pretty much the norm. I've been having forehead Botox twice yearly for a few years (42 now). It's fine if you don't do it too much. Also had some fillers to smooth lines between nose and mouth. Most of my friends have done the same tbh and Botox is used by much younger women too as a preventative measure.

notsmelliesagain · 28/12/2016 19:36

Weren't fillers originally used to plump out the faces of deceased people, to make them ready for viewing?
That's why fillers make a person look unnatural. They're not meant for the living Hmm

I agree with bibbity that facelifts look better than fillers and botox.

MrsJayy · 28/12/2016 19:40

Yes I think thats right sillicone is used by embalmers and funeral directors to fill out

SquidgeyMidgey · 28/12/2016 19:41

The school run here go in for botox and fillers- shiny foreheads, flat patches and all. I use face creams, but I really can't imagine being so fussed about a few wrinkles that I would stick needles in my face. I think older ladies with the icy smooth faces look peculiar, they still look their age somehow, just strange with it.

OverScentedFanjo · 28/12/2016 19:41

I love Miriam M. She is hilarious. Loved her swim suit. She is fab.

123itsme · 28/12/2016 19:44

I have had a facelift and researched really well on my surgeon to find one who works to a younger photo of yourself not one who just tightens stuff willynilly. I coupled it with a new haircut and everyone says I look younger with my hair like this !

Yes I looked like I'd been hit by a truck the first month or so, and yes the swelling has actually taken about 18months to go down. But I look, in all honesty, about late thirties now instead of late forties. And that has helped my confidence no end. Getting old sucks. Getting old and losing your sparkle adds salt to the wound. So finding a way to 'fix it' was what I wanted. And yes it has!
Would I recommend it ? No as it bloody hurts like hell!!!
