Why do older American women disfigure their faces?

I watched the first episode of Real Marigold Hotel on Tour - Florida today.
It was excellent.
But, wtaf have those American women done to their faces? and how can they possibly think they look good, or younger? Do they have different mirrors to the rest of us?
How can their surgeons possibly think they've done a good job?
Miriam and Clarissa actually looked younger and more attractive in comparison.

Apart from the bingo I would love to retire to that community in Ocala. Ocala is nice. A bit more relaxed than Orlando, least it was when I was last there several years ago.
Although my ideal place would still be celebration and yes there is a bit more culture there.

Not that we saw any of it when we were going two or three times a year.

In fact I would love to go back for my 65th birthday. Exh took me there for my 50th and I was a bit 'meh' as we were going twice that year anyway.

Now I'd give my right arm to go. This husband doesn't like Florida :-(

I thought MM was very rude actually, it's supposed to be a programme about older people and retirement, not a program to air political views. She knew she was in a very 'Trump' area, yet she was very aggressive about him. Really unnecessary I thought.
Back to the cosmetic surgery. Some of the women looked great! I really think some faces can take it & some can't.

The man interrupted a private discussion and told them all to shut up. He was an insufferable bully. And MM was great.

Loved MM - I think she has a fabulously attractive face too.

She has a great voice too and is very much in demand for advert voice-overs.

Yes I like her too, but I felt the politics discussion was too passionate and unnecessary - I mean she's not even American! Why would they care what she thinks of Donald Trump?

It's so boring how many MNetters believe that the minute you disembark at JFK you are going to be shot by gun-packing Trump-supporting grannies in leisure suits.

I once braved a plastic surgery consultation in NY. The doctor put me right off as he suggested so many improvements I'd have been broke, if fantastically beautiful . Anyway, I remember him saying that the most requested operation was nose jobs for black women - nose thinning - and he showed me pictures of well-known black women who had been under the knife. Dealing with wrinkles/typical racial features... I suppose it's our right to change what we like but it's uncomfortable (literally!) when you think about why.

Also, most people these days have cosmetic dental work. In fact you barely ever encounter a teenager without braces. We accept that it's quite normal to want "attractive" teeth - or at least an even smile - but a few decades ago it would have been considered vain unless one had really grotesque teeth.

Rhoda - my comment about guns and Trump supporters was referring to the programme. Both of which were apparently in abundance at the gated community they visited. That was all.
