To think blue lights are NOT Christmassy (light-hearted)

I have an irrational and completely unreasonable hatred of blue Christmas lights.

They look HORRIBLE! So cold, and so artificial. They remind me of being in an industrial freezer. Where there is possibly half a dead cow and a rampant serial killer.

Why would someone do this? WHY WHY WHY?

Because lovely bright sparkly twinkly blue is a very pretty colour?

Because although not usually thought of as Christmassy, tinsel and lights are meant to represent snow and ice?

Plus, they look tacky IMO.

Each to their own, but I have to agree, I hate cold, blue lights.

I agree. I got new tree lights last year and they turned out to be those "cold white" slightly blue ones and looked horrid on the tree. This year I got "warm white" ones for the tree and entwined the cold white ones around the patio doors (where they do look rather star-like and nice).
Tree lights are traditionally supposed to resemble candlelight (warm glow) as the victorians used real candles on their trees.

I agree. Think the fashion for them is waning, if not completely over - thank goodness.

Blue lights are my favourite, and currently on our black tree...

They are ghastly and common. Plus they make you panic if you drive round a corner and see lots of flashing blue lights.

I love Christmas light. Hate the blue ones. Feel like they are burning my retina.

Just realised you said they look artificial. What Christmas lights look natural?!

I much prefer the warm white ones. The light looks more natural and relaxing.

YADNBU! My favourite is multicoloured lights (although no flashing) but warm white is also nice.

My hometown has started using blue lights and they look horrible.

Oh but here in Australia, the blue lights give an icy cold feel to a bloody hot night. Any other colour just exacerbate your sweaty misery.

My blue and warm white lights look very tasteful in my predominantly BLUE lounge!!

I love blue lights.

Warm white only here, no blue and certainly not strings of multi coloured lights, very naff.
Also no inflatable outdoor decorations as they look awful during the day, the only excuse for them is if you have very young children.
Decorations should be understated, natural and always in good taste.

I don't mind pale icey blue for Christmas lights, especially for icicle or snowflake shaped decorations. But the bold emergency services blue looks unfestive and if flashing and visible on the road, may be misinterpreted by drivers as an emergency services vehicle and could lead to an accident.

I like white lights rather than coloured, so we have warm white on our Christmas tree. Bought some new white lights for the balconies - they turned out to be cold icy blue.

However, when they were up and turned on, I loved them. Conclusion: YABU for outside lights, YANBU for inside lights!

I've never thought about this before in my life, but YANBU. They're cold, cruel little lights.

Hate them. Blue lights mean police cars and ambulances. Not festive.

Actually, on reflection, blue lights probably represent Christmas Eve night in most city centres, but still. Warm white all the way.

Totally misunderstood this and thought you'd been carted off in an ambulance and would therefore miss Christmas.

Fucking hate blue lights (unless part of a multicoloured set).
Last christmas I spent ages waiting for an ambulance for my elderly DM who had sepsis. Every tim I thought the ambulance was coming it turned out to be the neighbours' outside blue fucking flashing lights!
YANBU at all.

My neighbour has put blue flashing lights outside his house for the first time this year. When I first saw it flashing on and off through the fuzzy glass of my front door panel I was worried they'd had to call an ambulance. Not exactly festive...

My dh spent a fortune on flashing blue lights for the front of the house a couple of years ago, i didnt have the heart to tell him i don't like them. Now i have to act all delighted when he spends half a day putting them all up. Hopefully they will peg out soon.

Oh I was going to start a thread on this. Neighbours across the road have just put up horribly bright aggressively flashing blue ambulance-style christmas lights - I cant bear this for the next few weeks - seriously. And it flashes into our house. But how can you say anything? I don't know them at all.
