To think blue lights are NOT Christmassy (light-hearted)

I have an irrational and completely unreasonable hatred of blue Christmas lights.

They look HORRIBLE! So cold, and so artificial. They remind me of being in an industrial freezer. Where there is possibly half a dead cow and a rampant serial killer.

Why would someone do this? WHY WHY WHY? Grin

Yeah they're horrid.

My main gripe is that it looks like the scene of an RTA through the window when they're flashing away on the neighbours house.

If you drive you're hyper-aware of blues, and my poor little noggin can't compute that quickly that they're not emergency services vehicles.

kali110 · 06/12/2016 10:13

I love them! My favourite ones

SpringerS · 06/12/2016 10:15

Someone further up my street has lights like this on their house and they are quite pretty. Except that the flasher is clearly broken and one section of icicles half flash and the rest don't. It looks really stupid/weird.

Wookiecookies · 06/12/2016 10:20

See springer those are quite muted, so I dont find them quite as offensive as those eye splitting ambulance lights everyone around here seems to have!

MrsBrew005 · 06/12/2016 10:21

Yanbu my oh loves blue lights, last year he got All excited and got a white decorations and blue/white lights combo, did not have the heart to tell him I hate it!! I've let him put it up this year but gently broke the news that I am changing the colours for next year!!!! Warm white is much Nicer

Isawahatonce · 06/12/2016 10:23

I have both white lights and multicoloured lights on the tree. If i had blue lights, they'd be on there too. The more lights, the better, any colour is wonderful.

TwitterQueen1 · 06/12/2016 10:24

Wookie ROFLMAO at your neighbour's ejaculating cock ...

Wookiecookies · 06/12/2016 10:37

Maybe its a weird village thing that I am missing twitter, there is a definite decorative genital theme going on, another house down the same road have installed a garden sculpture that looks like a gaping vagina.

Sadly, they have not festooned said vagina sculpture with xmas lights yet.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2016 10:40

Two questions:

  1. are you sure they didn't know it looked like an ejaculating cock
  2. was it only visible as such from your house?

Oh, and if the answers are 1) no 2) yes' a third question
3) had you pissed them off some how?

Wookiecookies · 06/12/2016 10:42
  1. it looked like a cock from only one angle.

2)it wasnt visible from my house as it was a few streets away from me

  1. no, but I shall certainly remember not to going forward.

Blue is the colour of emergency service lights, ambulance and police.

Our neighbors have bright blue LED lights and I keep thinking there's a police car outside!
Definitely not a Christmasy colour.

Another here who was secretly pleased when our outside blue 'trees' died a natural death.

onelastpigout · 06/12/2016 10:46

Are we talking light blue or bright blue?

I don't mind the light blue too much, it's those horrible bright blue ones I can't stand.
Don't like the light blue that much either Confused

onelastpigout · 06/12/2016 10:50

Warm white is lovely.
It's the closest thing to the soft yellow of candle light.

CaraAspen · 06/12/2016 11:10

I really dislike the blue lights too and the chilly white ones. It is getting increasingly hard to get warm white lights.

Arealhumanbeing · 06/12/2016 11:18

YADNBU!

I hate them. They actually hurt my eyes and remind me of being freezing cold.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 06/12/2016 11:21

I'm glad that warm white LEDs have come in like the old style bulbs, although I have good old fashioned multicoloured to adorn my bush Grin A few years ago, the early white LED lights had a definite tone of "last term, washed-up school shirt grey" to them.

If a pale blue, green and warm white combination could be developed, that could probably look quite good in a frosty way, but the royal blue looks cold and mean. The light doesn't spread or glow from them, and the flashing ambulance look doesn't inspire festive cheer. I miss the softer colours from old bulbs.

I love the descriptions of light sequences upthread. I'll have to remember them! Personally I favour static or gentle twinkle.

userformallyknownasuser1475360 · 06/12/2016 11:26

Flashing blue lights, I work in emergency services, rarely when using blue lights is it a good thing....and I have seen xmas lights cause confusion when turning up to an incident (or long road see blue flashy lights in the distance and think that must be the other emergency services)

KinkyAfro · 06/12/2016 11:32

Always warm white for me, looks nice and cozy, blue and the bright white ones look cold and uninviting.

MakeItStopNeville · 06/12/2016 11:43

Lots of my neighbours have blue lights because they're celebrating Hanukkah, not Christmas.

wanderings · 06/12/2016 11:54

In the early 90's, our German au pair saw our coloured Christmas lights.

She was Shock Shock Shock properly horrified! She maintained that lights should be white.

littlesallyracket · 06/12/2016 11:57

I don't like blue Christmas lights either. They remind me of those blue electric light ring things they have in food production areas to electrocute flies.

My favourite Christmas lights are just the plain white ones really, but the ones that have a 'warm' glow rather than a cold one.

Absolutely each to their own, though - if you're someone who likes blue Christmas lights, it's got bugger-all to do with anyone else. Someone turned their nose up at my Christmas tree once because it wasn't cheerful enough for them - all the decorations on it are white, silver or glass, and although it's sparkly and glittery and I think it looks really wintry and lovely and Narnia-ish, they thought it was cold and 'depressing'. Blush I don't have kids and I've only had a tree at all for about the past ten years, so I just bought the decorations I thought were pretty!

3luckystars · 06/12/2016 12:07

I hate blue lights! They make me feel sick, I went into a music shop once that had loads of blue lights and I got really dizzy. I think they affect my vision or something.
The woman across the road has them and it's like a sunbed. I can't even look at them!

I like the "warm white" lights and love coloured lights but do not like the icy blue white lights and the totally blue light sets make me feel ill.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 06/12/2016 12:08

Blue lights are horrid and should be banned
