To think blue lights are NOT Christmassy (light-hearted)

I have an irrational and completely unreasonable hatred of blue Christmas lights.

They look HORRIBLE! So cold, and so artificial. They remind me of being in an industrial freezer. Where there is possibly half a dead cow and a rampant serial killer.

Why would someone do this? WHY WHY WHY? Grin

I love them, especially when combined with green or silver. A nearby town has gone over to entirely blue and silver in the High Street, it looks beautiful.

WhoKnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 06/12/2016 09:21

Oh and I hate warm white, so dull and boring.

ElBandito · 06/12/2016 09:23

Blue Christmas lights are an abomination. YABU to consider this matter 'lighthearted'.

MERLYPUSSEDOFF · 06/12/2016 09:23

They remind me of the police station where I used to work. Or a neon kebab shop sign.

Shame though as blue is my favorite colour.

jellyandsoup · 06/12/2016 09:25

Yep me too, my children point out all houses with blue lights as they know how.much I hate them!

MLGs · 06/12/2016 09:25

I don't like blue Christmas lights or blue baubles. Also I don't like that bronzey colour I keep seeing this year.

I light white lights and either silver, gold or red and green decorations (but not all the colours together)

JustAnotherPoster00 · 06/12/2016 09:26

they make you panic if you drive round a corner and see lots of flashing blue lights.

^^ This Grin

PowerScreech · 06/12/2016 09:27

It's to make everyone think the police are after them

TwitterQueen1 · 06/12/2016 09:28

Oh but I love blue lights!

However, the DCs don't. Xmas Sad This year I magnanimously allowed them to leave the blue lights in their boxes and the tree is now mainly warm white with a string of multi-coloured for a tiny flash of contrast.

Through gritted teeth I will say that our tree looks absolutely beautiful (IMHO).

I think whinging about other people's decorations is not Christmassy. :)

This whinging pops up every year and makes me want to deck my house from chimney to foundations in blue lights.

I love all christmas lights and the fact that everyone likes different ones means the streets aren't a dull never ending line of sameness.

shovetheholly · 06/12/2016 09:29

Flowers for all those who have had a genuine blue light experience over Christmas. I hadn't even made that connection, but I think that's in the back of my mind too owing to a similar incident a few years back.

I LOVE 'cold, cruel little lights'! That is exactly how I feel! Irrational I know.

I appear to have chopped off the Angel Gabriel in my photo. Xmas Wink

Bloopbleep · 06/12/2016 09:29

Where I used to live it wasn't Christmas without the appearance of flashing blue lights complete with arrests and usually a massive punch up

shovetheholly · 06/12/2016 09:29

And twitterqueen - that made me feel all Christmassy inside

YADNBU

Tacky tacky tacky!

There is a house near me who cover every inch of their home in these god awful things, when I drive past, it hurts my eyes so bad that it feels like satan himself is driving a pitchfork into my brain!

Why would anyone choose these ugly things?? Warm white lights are beautiful, blue lights just make you feel like you have been transported into the Parralel world of anti christmas.

Be warned, If you are a naff blue light offender, my judgey pants will be hoiked so high that I will be wearing them as a hat.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2016 09:31

i think I might go get the blue lights out of the loft. The only problem is I currently have red and white lights up so if I add theblue I look like a raging nationalist.

SoupDragon · 06/12/2016 09:31

Warm white lights are the beige of Christmas.

Fluffsnuts · 06/12/2016 09:31

I agree. Unfortunately of my very close neighbours don't Sad

Wookiecookies · 06/12/2016 09:33

Beige is not migraine inducing soup Grin

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 06/12/2016 09:34

I haven't read the thread yet but there is a certain blue that is very Christmassy. It's like a turquoise blue that would have been in the flower type fairy lights.

It's not that blue isn't Christmassy, it's just that there's too much blue and it's too 'in your face' now. The ratios are just all wrong. .

These are the sort of lights I really like! Grin

Neither are any of the other colours as far as I'm concerned!

SoupDragon · 06/12/2016 09:35

I ve just remembered I need to get the purple lights into my lavender hedge to really piss people off....

ChicRock · 06/12/2016 09:36

Blue lights are so 2013.

It's all about warm white now.

Wookiecookies · 06/12/2016 09:36

Tbf, it did make me chuckle last year, that one house who had blinding blue lights on their tree, clearly hadnt noticed that from one angle it looked like a giant ejaculating cock. Twas the Source of much hilarity for our family.

QueenArseClangers · 06/12/2016 09:36

But Soup, at least it'll be a festive raging nationalist. Xmas Smile
