Just thinking about it: can you imagine being the butler/maitre d/housekeeper/chamber maid etc at the White House and facing your employers changing from the Obamas to Don and Mel? I really do think they will have trouble hanging on to the domestic staff over the next few months Grin

OP posts:

I agree the cancer joke is in poor taste but as others have pointed out, the target has chosen to be married and to speak publicly to defend an odious shitbag for money. She is not entitled to the respect of the world for that and she will get none of mine. I find the pair of them repulsive, on both aesthetic and moral grounds.

derxa · 12/11/2016 09:44

the target Shock

Pluto30 · 12/11/2016 09:50

"The target:
"Not entitled to respect"
"Repulsive"

You sound like a right charm. I'd say you've not been afforded enough respect in life and that's why you feel it's okay to talk about someone (who has done nothing wrong, might I add) like that.

RepentAtLeisure · 12/11/2016 10:19

Why are people saying the OP is nasty? (Oh, 'Melanoma' - well a pun on a name is not the same as wishing someone cancer. Though I'd call the Donald cancerous, his poor wife doesn't have any agency to be anything but a decoration.)

Have you seen the (already iconic) photo of the White House staff looking on as Obama greets Trump? They are not sticking around. And as it's quite a diverse staff, I'd imagine the Trumps would be quite comfortable with that decision.

derxa · 12/11/2016 11:17

And as it's quite a diverse staff, I'd imagine the Trumps would be quite comfortable with that decision. Yawn

lljkk · 12/11/2016 11:33

I find the Melanoma in title funny. No worse than mildly disrespectful.
FFS @sense of humour bypass. It's only cancer. It's not a tragedy, just one of the many crummy diseases folk can get & die of. We all die of something. It's not an aspersion on someone's moral character to get it or die from it.

Melania is groundbreaking. Which other FLOTUS had past like it? I hope her ground-breaking aspects turn out to be good things.

Since the WH staff have historically always been African American, I expect they will continue to be so, that's the dominant demographic in the DC population.

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 12/11/2016 12:43

Some people here are a little too firmly in the grip of the special snowflake syndrome. Anyone who handles any issue otherwise than with kid gloves is deemed "offensive" and outside norms. There is plenty of scope for robust language which does not stray into discriminatory territory and it is still in common use outside the confines of the pta. I make no apology for being direct in my language. The trumps are deeply unpleasant people and people who care about decent values will say so.

Manumission · 12/11/2016 12:46

You're way too firmly in the grip of offensive twat syndrome karlos so the balance is good.

JellyBelli · 12/11/2016 12:48

Whats the difference between Melania and Hillary? Why is Hillary lambasted for her husbands behaviour and not Melania?

ToShelAndBack · 12/11/2016 12:49

It's Mel-AH-nee-uh. Emphasis on the "ah". Not that difficult for most people.

Manumission · 12/11/2016 12:50

ljkk "its only cancer" isn't really the point.

It's puerile and unpleasant.

If I decided to refer you as little jerk because I didn't like your politics and then protested that it was just a pun, would that seem witty?

KarlosKKrinkelbeim · 12/11/2016 12:51

If you are genuinely offended by anything I have said I envy you. Your life is clearly so free of real problems you are filling it with manufactured outrage. I'd just try enjoying life, if I were you ...,

RebelandaStunner · 12/11/2016 12:54

Spiteful post in bad taste OP

jdoe8 · 12/11/2016 12:58

YABVU, i dislike him but the kid is what 10. I think its fair enough he was tired.

Awful name though, Barron as in oil Barron?

Manumission · 12/11/2016 13:03

Oh stop being a dick Karlos. You're the one asserting that Melanie "doesn't deserve respect" because of who she married and that you object to them both "on aesthetic grounds".

toastytoastbear · 12/11/2016 13:12

OP such a nasty woman Wink

no but seriously this thread is really shitty

Topseyt · 12/11/2016 13:50

I would say that I am very surprised that anyone who has had cancer of any kind of who has witnessed a friend or relative go through it could think the title of this thread even remotely appropriate, whether they claim "black humour" or not.

Sorry OP, I think this thread is spiteful and in very poor taste for that reason. I think you probably didn't intend it that way, but it coming across that way was a risk you took.

BishopBrennansArse · 12/11/2016 13:54

Melanoma Grin

She's stuck with him for the next four years, though.

Baylisiana · 12/11/2016 14:03

I don't like the pun and while I appreciate that OP has her own take on it, I think it would have best avoided. Criticising Melania is not offensive though, so I hope no one is suggesting the thread be removed for that reason.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 12/11/2016 14:06

Sorry, but as someone who is currently undergoing cancer treatment I fail to see that the title is appropriate in any way whatsoever. It certainly isn't funny.

Topseyt · 12/11/2016 14:11

Nobody is above criticism, including Melania Trump.

The thread should be pulled because the cancer "joke" is offensive to many people and simply not at all funny.

GinAndTunic · 12/11/2016 14:16

OP , you should be ashamed of yourself. The title of this thread is petty and childish.

derxa · 12/11/2016 14:18

Sorry, but as someone who is currently undergoing cancer treatment I fail to see that the title is appropriate in any way whatsoever. It certainly isn't funny. Flowers I know from personal experience it's no fucking joke.

GinAndTunic · 12/11/2016 14:19

I think you probably didn't intend it that way, but it coming across that way was a risk you took.

I think the OP intended it exactly as it sounds: she is not backwards in coming forward of her loathing of Trump and his wife and so thought that she was being funny. Yeah, cancer is so funny, OP.

GinAndTunic · 12/11/2016 14:20

It's only cancer.

True. It's not like it's anything serious.
