To think subscription boxes are scraping the barrel

Are there are people sitting in their houses wearing onsies while all their needs and whims arrive via monthly subscription boxes?

OP posts:

Also like waxbox

judybloomno5 · 19/10/2016 16:56

I got my DH a craft beer one for his birthday. He loves it and looks forward to it every month. Each month is a different theme.

LynetteScavo · 19/10/2016 16:57

I am too much of a control freak to pay for something I don't know what I'm getting!

You lit are all so chilled!

FeckinCrutches · 19/10/2016 16:57

My 4yo gets a weekend box every two weeks, much excitement when it arrives!

LynetteScavo · 19/10/2016 16:57

Lit= lot

AnthonyPandy · 19/10/2016 17:00

Ha ha at this thread! Poor OP started it to complain about these ridiculous overpriced boxes and it's morphed into swapping names of boxes, getting ideas, introducing new boxes to people who didn't know they existed, signing up for new boxes etc etc etc.........

Yes GIN DD gets this and had it redirrected to me whilst she was working abroard over the summer. Gin, mixer, nibbles and a magazine. Was great, but not sure I really need to get through a bottle of gin a month.

Needastrongone · 19/10/2016 17:02

Yes, I get to odd item that makes me think 'eh?' MrsDeVere (Smile), but loads of things that are lovely too. One body moisturiser in particular was fab, and I will buy a full size one for sure.

I'm undecided if I will continue as I'm only 3 months in, but the novelty factor is great at the moment.

Thanks for the coffee link too.

Makes mental note to add Gin subscription box on Christmas list

allegretto · 19/10/2016 17:04

Not really a box but I would love to get this every month!

I think the makeup ones are silly unless you really love having loads of different random products in tiny sizes. Personally I think they should be paying me to test out tiny makeup samples rather than the other way round!

I'm also trying to simplify my life and I don't see the point in bringing additional "stuff" into my house, if I haven't specifically chosen it to suit my needs and tastes. I've minimised my makeup collection to only 1-2 items of each type - 2 lipsticks, 1 mascara, 1 blusher etc. It all fits in one small bag. I'm happy with it that way.

Obviously if you're a makeup addict who loves testing different things frequently I suppose it might be worth it but I think it'd be better value to save your cash and just go to the shop and get one or two high quality purchases less frequently.

Maudlinmaud · 19/10/2016 17:04

I'm a birchbox subscriber.
Meh! Every month I'm underwhelmed.
Quite like the sound of hotel chocolate though.

pyrowall · 19/10/2016 17:04

Sorry

Birchbox gets very samey veryfast. I was a subscriber for about two years and got boring in the end.

KikisDeliveryService · 19/10/2016 17:07

The gin club should advertise on MN.

Pestilence13610 · 19/10/2016 17:08

Don't forget the gin advent calendars

Pestilence13610 · 19/10/2016 17:08

kikis they don't need to Grin

BusterGonad · 19/10/2016 17:09

Mamushka I think I would die if I had only two lipsticks to choose from! I just love my HUGE make up collection, and I love adding to it. I'd love a box of minis through my door every month!

onemouseplace · 19/10/2016 17:10

I love the idea of them, but usually end up cancelling after a few months as they soon become quite obviously poor value.

I've tried:

  • Glossybox - was good to start with (and this was a few years ago) but they sent me a couple with some real duds in, so I cancelled.

  • My Little Box - the beauty stuff was good, but padded out with some serious crap (think the sort of freebies you get with magazines) - so I cancelled.

  • Graze - so expensive for what you get!

DD gets the holiday subscription activity box from Bumblebox - and she loves it.

And I do get monthly flowers from Bloom & Wild - I'd get them more often if I had more money as it's one of the nicest things I get.

steff13 · 19/10/2016 17:10

I do a coffee one. I used to do a yarn one.

Now I do a mystery one, which my kids love. A random package shows up with random items in it, and they don't know where it came from. It's so much fun when it shows up and they get all excited and try to figure out who sent it.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 19/10/2016 17:13

Interesting article for food ones

supercaliforniasurfer · 19/10/2016 17:16

Does anyone have suggestions for boxes for kids? Could be a good suggestion for grandparents.

KikisDeliveryService · 19/10/2016 17:17

pestilence I feel sad for all the MNers who don't yet know about the joys of potential gin deliveries!

What's the mystery one steff?
