To think subscription boxes are scraping the barrel

Are there are people sitting in their houses wearing onsies while all their needs and whims arrive via monthly subscription boxes?

OP posts:
Maudlinmaud · 19/10/2016 17:58

Drama I love candles. Would you reccomend those boxes?

Ifounddory · 19/10/2016 18:00

We get Zbox and Lootcrate. The cost is not much more than the t-shirts we get and we also get cool stuff for our geek shelves.

I have a keyring that sends bat signals, an ice cube tray in the shape of a 20 sided die and a Viking drinking horn. Who wouldn't want that? Grin

MissBattleaxe · 19/10/2016 18:00

I get two different perfume boxes and I love them,

39up · 19/10/2016 18:02

My mysterious package was the best thing ever! I felt like a character in a creepy pulp thriller. And it's so nice to come home to find that there's something arrived in the post that isn't just a bill.

legotits · 19/10/2016 18:07

I'm reporting this thread.
All this waffle.

The Gin link is all that is required.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 19/10/2016 18:07

I think it's good for people who struggle to try new things.

TroubleinDaFamily · 19/10/2016 18:08

HelloFresh are great a bit expensive but they work for us.

I can only eat soft food, so our diet gets very dull.

Every few weeks if I like the look of what they are offering and I can eat around the edges of the recipe I will order it.

Bloody marvellous.

SheDoneAlreadyDoneHadHerses · 19/10/2016 18:08

My DS has Lootcrate. The tshirts are brilliant.

Tablefor4 · 19/10/2016 18:10

I like Pact. I also rate Gousto over HelloFresh, much better range of recipe choice

It's wax melts, not candles but I would definitely recommend if you're into that kind of thing
I have an electric wax burner but prefer the tea light burners.

CandleBelle is £11 per month for 9 varied wax melts
Flamingo Candles is £10 for 8 varied

They have quite a large selection so you very rarely get the same one twice unless your a long time subscriber.

And They are quite big so can be halved If the scent is a strong one.

Currently melting Almond Bakewell from CandleBelle and it smells amazing!

I've done Graze, also Pact coffee and Eight Point Nine coffee.

Latest in Beauty (you know what you're getting with those, not exactly a subscription box)

Glossybox - got bored

Love Lula - very good but eventually had too much stuff and needed to clear backlog

DailyFaily · 19/10/2016 18:28

I got birchbox for about 4 months -was never vastly impressed but the last one had a can of water that I can use to spray in my face - why?! I unsubscribed after that.

WankersHacksandThieves · 19/10/2016 18:37

I'm now just perusing the thread deciding which box I want to subscribe to - thanks OP! :o

BusStopBetty · 19/10/2016 18:40

We've had a few food ones, the aforementioned Pact and Hasbean, I think.

The Spicery was also good for getting out of a cooking rut. www.thespicery.com/

And I've had bloom and wild flowers and they were lovely. Customer service was also very, very good when there was an issue.

I wouldn't thank you for. a beauty one though. Gin, however...

gaggiagirl · 19/10/2016 18:53

I really rate hello fresh and has bean.

witsender · 19/10/2016 19:00

I have friends that have had yarn boxes, hand dyed yarn for crochet etc that they have enjoyed.

AwkwardSquad · 19/10/2016 19:22

Gaggiagirl and other people who have had coffee subscriptions, are they packaged in a way that can be delivered through a normal letter box? I'm thinking of getting one as a gift but don't want the recipient to have to chase up re-deliveries or shlep to the parcel office. Thanks.

steff13 · 19/10/2016 19:27

My coffee subscription comes in a box, but the mailman leaves it on the porch. That's not uncommon here, though.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 19/10/2016 19:30

I use fish box, lovely delivery of vacuum packed super fresh random fish once a month. Opportunity to tell them what fish you love/hate, we get two adult portions and a child's one of each type of fish.
Love fish box delivery day, wasn't so impressed by the arrival of a live crab when I was 39 weeks Grin

Gin sounds like it's worth investigating

AwkwardSquad · 19/10/2016 19:34

Thanks, Steff. No porches where she lives!

HoneyDragon · 19/10/2016 19:34
Blueberry234 · 19/10/2016 19:43

We get a Gousto box and my son gets a curiosity box - monthly science experiment box which is fab

RichardBucket · 19/10/2016 19:47

We got HelloFresh for a few weeks while we got a discount. When it went up to full price I cancelled it - it's nice, but not worth the money. Even less so for us, because meat-eaters can choose from a range of recipes but vegetarians have no choice... much like many crap restaurants. Grin

I had Graze boxes many years ago, but ended up with so much on my "do not send" list that it wasn't worth it. I bet there's loads more on offer now, but when I did it you were a bit stuffed if you didn't like banana chips, olives or walnuts.

I would love to find a good value subscription box for any product I like. I still have a childlike thrill when I get post that isn't junk or a bill. But all the ones I've seen aren't worth the money. Sad

Enkopkaffetak · 19/10/2016 20:00

OP yes YABU

It really comes down to what personal preference is.

I love the surprise element of a subscription box , I don't mind spending a bit of money on stuff I usually wouldn't as I view it as having saved on buying a full size of something new to try.

We used to get graze for a long time. One every 2 weeks it was much excitement from the kids and oHHH can I have x. Once it got to a point most of them were no longer excited we stopped it. It is not about you being able to just buy what you want and use that all the time. it is about being a bit adventurous and trying new things.

We have a subscription for Owlcrate, Geekbox (last week) and dd3 wants one for Luckydip so she will get that for her birthday money from my dad.

DS having just been told of this thread is now wanting
Bacon club
Socks (he has a thing about socks its a longstanding joke)
and he is very keen on the fudge one.

As a joke he also wanted the lego one. (he is 15)

Personally I liking the idea of the hygge one.. Seriously considering the pink parcel (simply because with 4 ladies in the house we often run out)
Just discovered that they do a marshmallow one that would be fun & I am seriously considering a coffee one for dh for Christmas.

the simple answer is. Some people find enjoyment in this. I think that is a good thing.
