I am talking pubic hair. What does everyone do with it? I hate mine (especially as I get older it's getting wilder!) but what I hate more is bumpy itchy red skin whenever I try to tackle it. However I seem to be under the impression that most women are smooth and basically hairless down there and I must seem like some sort of cave woman or 70s porn star in comparison.

My husband hasn't mentioned that he minds at all...but maybe he does?

And if everyone is hairless and neat down there please please tell me how to do it without hideous rashes!!!

I think if I was single I might be more inclined to just leave it and expect any new man to just deal with it as hes lucky he's getting to see it at all. Rightly or wrongly, I feel like being married I should take my husbands preferences into consideration, and he prefers it bare. (Disclaimer, I'm not anti feminist or my husbands property or anything like that, I just like to do what I know he finds attractive)

SlottedSpoon · 12/10/2016 21:16

It will only be bumpy and itchy if you shave the whole lot off, and why would you? Pubic hair is nothing to be ashamed of. If it's a bit wild and thick just trim it really close and maybe wax or epilate or shave around the bikini bits.

RiverTam · 12/10/2016 21:17

Auser again, I'm not talking about individuals.

SarahLou83 · 12/10/2016 21:17

I shave it when I can b bothered, lucky if I get time to shave my legs in the shower tho!!i leave a triangle as don't want to b completely bald. I do love the feel when it is just done but yeah, regrowth is awful.

Hubby likes it smooth and is very quick to tell me when I need to sort it out, I would quite happily leave it natural x

porridge90 · 12/10/2016 21:19

River I have a dd too, and I totally get what you're saying. It is sad to think that they will grow up thinking women pretty much are expected to be bald from the eyebrows down. But then on the other hand I also wouldn't want her to be talked about if she chose not to groom at all. She's only two though. Perhaps by the time it matters a full 70s bush will be trendy.

SoTheySentMeA · 12/10/2016 21:19

Thanks diddlydonkey that is now on my list!

Serialweightwatcher · 12/10/2016 21:19

Don't do anything except occasional trim - used to shave sides to make everything neater but ended up twice with bartholin cysts which had to be operated on and a few more times without ops but with tons of pain and discomfort for days on end ...... therefore happy to leave it wildish but neatish Grin ........ DP has never expressed problem with nethers as long as he gets use out of it Blush

RiverTam · 12/10/2016 21:20

Starling yes, I agree with that.

porridge do you think your DH would do something like this, that he found a hassle and unpleasant, because you preferred it? I know that on the one occasion I whipped everything off DH did really like it but the regrowth and simply doing it in the first place was so awful I wasn't ever going to do that again, and frankly his preferences were neither here nor there!

BastardGoDarkly · 12/10/2016 21:21

DPS very quick to tell me when I should sort it out ?! That would piss me right off, frankly.

user1475440127 · 12/10/2016 21:22

I do the mutton chops and trim if I go swimming ( or on a promise...in my dreams)

BastardGoDarkly · 12/10/2016 21:22

Sorry, hubby.

ThisUsernameIsAvailable · 12/10/2016 21:22

Nothing at all. I swim a fair bit aswell so I have one of those cossies with the built in shorts

SadSock · 12/10/2016 21:23

Laser hair removal. Have had loads of sessions but now have nothing at all apart from a small patch at the front. Love it being all smooth underneath right round to the back!

StarlingMurmuration · 12/10/2016 21:23

There's a bit in a Tim Minchin song where he says his ideal woman would have neck-down alopecia. I always think of that when I'm reading these threads.

RiverTam · 12/10/2016 21:24

I've got the shorts too, I was so happy when they started selling swimsuits like that. Though as mine are heading down my thighs these days I still have to do something but it's nowhere like as thick so it's not too bad.

RiverTam · 12/10/2016 21:25

Eewwwww! I quite like Tim Minchin too Sad.

SoTheySentMeA · 12/10/2016 21:25

I'm not one of those suggesting that less hair is more hygienic but I do personally find that when I leave it to get too long, by the end of the day the front of my underwear (and trousers if I'm wearing tight ones) is soaked in sweat, whereas when it is short this doesn't happen. If my bush is too wild, I can't actually wear leggings at all as they get soaked. I don't know if many people have this problem, I could just be excessively sweaty down there but I'm not particularly sweaty anywhere else. I like it trimmed short as it feels airier and I can wear what I want.

BartholinsSister · 12/10/2016 21:26

Not all women in porn are shaven. A very high percentage of the men are, though. Marilyn Monroe famously claimed to be hairless from the neck down, so it's hardly a new thing. Some of us just like the feel of it.

steff13 · 12/10/2016 21:26

I get a Brazilian every 6 weeks or so. I've never had a man comment either way, but I love how soft it feels.

porridge90 · 12/10/2016 21:26

I think he would River, yes. I loosely took the mick out of him when he overtrimmed himself once on a whim and I mentioned that I preferred it left alone and he hasn't done it since. Although I can't think of an equivalent that would mean him experienceing pain and discomfort for my satisfaction...

StarlingMurmuration · 12/10/2016 21:27

No, he's just being funny, it's ok.

Nofunkingworriesmate · 12/10/2016 21:28

Nothing, smear of toothpaste for freshness if I think I may get lucky

YuckYuckEwwww · 12/10/2016 21:31

I have a massive bush Grin I like a retro muff!
I have lasered my bikini line though - so it's not extending beyond my pants! and I sometimes reduce the volume a little with scissors, I don't mind a thick bush up top but around the toilet area I keep it shorter for hygiene - but still hairy

I don't know what to make of the "I wax" replies: waxing can mean anything from tidying the sides to landing strips or all off??

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/10/2016 21:33

Why is it that it's impossible to just answer the question and be mildly (or not at all) interested in what other people do with their pubic hair. Why the judgement? It is ALL from the side of those who don't shave/wax/depilate. Nobody from the 'other side' is judging anybody else.

I have a question though because of this judgement and the feminism point that gets dredged up time and again... why do the non hair-removers bother to 'tidy up edges' for swimming? If you're so 'right on' and happy with your decision, what does it matter if hairs are visible?

Makes no sense to me at all that.

I personally couldn't care less what other people do with their pubic hair, these threads are nothing but a straw poll with an occasional good tip (scratchy mit, thanks!) thrown in. My reasons for all-off waxing are for hygiene (immaterial of what the research is, it depends how often you wash and how much sweat you actually generate) - and for period time I definitely notice a difference.

I really wish it would be possible to post on these threads without a disclaimer or being made to feel as if I'm somehow responsible for perpetuating the porn industry.

RiverTam · 12/10/2016 21:35

Phew!

Bartholins I've seen a fair bit of porn in recent years, went through a phase of looking at it a lot which I wish I hadn't as you simply can't unsee it, and in the few years I dipped in and out I never once saw an unshaven woman. Not one time. Never. Back in the early 90s when I saw a few porn mags, all the women had pubes, you would buy specialist magazines if you were interested in shaved women. Same in erotic literature, it was a niche thing, like anal, which also is now the norm in porn (and possibly in young women's sex lives, whether they really like it or not? I don't know).
