I am talking pubic hair. What does everyone do with it? I hate mine (especially as I get older it's getting wilder!) but what I hate more is bumpy itchy red skin whenever I try to tackle it. However I seem to be under the impression that most women are smooth and basically hairless down there and I must seem like some sort of cave woman or 70s porn star in comparison.

My husband hasn't mentioned that he minds at all...but maybe he does?

And if everyone is hairless and neat down there please please tell me how to do it without hideous rashes!!!

Keep it short and shave bikini line with DHs razor when required. That's it, think it's an age thing DD says no one her age has any hair (19)

littleprincesssara · 12/10/2016 18:58

Trim with nail scissors, Nair the upper thighs.

None of my close friends wax or shave.

JammyDodger16 · 12/10/2016 18:59

I do nothing but a bikini line shave if I go swimming.

All lasered off. Super cheap with a groupon. Can't recommend it enough.

DieSchottin93 · 12/10/2016 19:04

I'm in my early 20s and unlike most females my age (I think) I prefer to leave it natural and just trim it once or twice a month. I might get a Brazilian for special occasions but tbh it hurts like fuck and looks ridiculous when it starts growing back Hmm

kenicka · 12/10/2016 19:05

i don't care what anyone does . But for those of us that only saw naked vulvas in children it does look a bit weird, as full on hairy ones do now to those used to shaved.

mysistersimone · 12/10/2016 19:05

Trim once in a blue moon and shave the edges with a ladyshave if I'm braving a swimming costume

RoseGoldHippie · 12/10/2016 19:09

I veet it all off but only because it is the easiest thing I have found (i.e. Spray it all on leave for 5-10 mins, get in shower and wash it all off!) I don't like the look of completely bald but can't be bothered to start doing shapes (total shape OCD freak so would have to get it even otherwise would drive me mad!)

That being said I only bother doing it every other month or so I don't think DP gives a fuck either way anyway x

Madinche1sea · 12/10/2016 19:10

If you get it all off with a professional wax every 4 weeks or so, the regrowth becomes much finer and eventually it stops growing back at all. Almost 40 and nothing down there for many a year!

Natsku · 12/10/2016 19:13

I just trim with nail scissors, don't like the hairless look there. I go to the public sauna at the swimming pool and the vast majority of women I see there (naked sauna, see everything) don't sport the hairless look either.

Lessthanaballpark · 12/10/2016 19:16

I figure it's there for a reason so I leave it.

TheCatsMother99 · 12/10/2016 19:18

Used to wax, now I'm lazering it to just leave a Brazilian (which I might end up continuing to wax).

BananaThePoet · 12/10/2016 19:18

Nothing. Tried messing about with it once - the agony wasn't worth it. Shaving causes terrible rashes, hair remover ditto.
So I stick with natural.
I once tried trimming with a scissors one summer which led to me not being able to go swimming for ages because the cut ends of the hairs made them sharp and poke through my swimming costume like hedgehog bristles - not a good look and not something I was going to go public with.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 12/10/2016 19:19

Waxed off at a salon, all of it. Love having nothing there, it feels so much cleaner to me. Waxing doesn't hurt that much.

adagio · 12/10/2016 19:25

Salon wax is a different kettle of fish to home wax I find - regrowth is soft, fine and slower to appear, and no itching. Home wax (hot or cold) requires wine (or gin) and regrowth is hit or miss (seems to grow in a hundred different directions, salon seems tidier for some unknown reason). Also loads of ingrown hairs on the home version.

I prefer brazilian, feels cleaner and fresher IMO. In practice now I have kids I only get it done for holidays (or childbirth!). As a young pre kids professional I got it done every 6 weeks or so in a salon - very few ingrown hairs. Use a scrubby glove daily to exfoliate, and a good body oil post waxing.

This ^^^

I suppose it's a bit like seeing boxer dogs with tails now when we were used to seeing them docked - just takes getting used to.

I don't think a naked fanny looks particularly attractive on an adult woman - but as a heterosexual adult woman, I am not in the position of closely examining other women's pudenda.

Yes - I am hairy - gorilla hairy! And I like what I am - and I think that that's the point. As long as women cultivate their private gardens for their OWN delight, and not that of a partner, male or female, then there is nothing wrong whatever their preference.

I do wonder, though, about men (okay, women, too) who want an adult partner with pre-pubescent genitalia, though.

Natsku · 12/10/2016 19:33

Just remember an accident I had with the nail scissors when I was pregnant - was trimming prior to a check up and must have nicked myself without realising and then later on panicked because there was blood in my knickers. Went to the check up saying "I'm bleeding!" and then a moment later realised it must have been a trimming accident. Embarrassingly the whole thing is recorded on my notes.

ComputerUserNotTrained · 12/10/2016 19:44

I miss the luxuriant bush of my youth. It is now, in my 40s, sparse, wiry and grey. I feel too young to have sparse. wiry and grey pubes so the whole lot comes off. I'd a apply the same principle to my head, but it's not thinning and it's easy to colour (currently a silvery platinum blond).

FWIW the occasional razor rash - which is only ever in the top corners of my pubic triangle - is less irritating than wiry pubes bristling against my vulva.

StarlingMurmuration · 12/10/2016 19:54

The obligatory 'looks like a child' posts from the hairier flapped turned up then?
Standard

Took about as long as the "cleaner, fresher, more hygienic" comments to turn up from the plucked chicken flapped. Also standard.

BastardGoDarkly · 12/10/2016 20:01

I'm hairier than king Kong's mum, still don't feel a need to shame other women about what they want to do with their own flaps.

StarlingMurmuration · 12/10/2016 20:03

That's shaming from more than one side, is my point.

Beardsareweird · 12/10/2016 20:05

Mine grows wild and free.

velourvoyageur · 12/10/2016 20:06

I am a woman who has sex with women and I prefer it when women shave pubic hair off, what would you like to know about me 2kids2dogs? I'm clearly a horrible sexual deviant!
I don't like it because it reminds me of a child (it doesn't, why the fuck would I think of kids when I'm going down on someone). It's more than pubic hair doesn't feel nice in your mouth and it can give you a rash just like snogging someone with stubble can. Plus, women are beautiful, all the better to see them without hair hiding everything!
And no, am not snobby about women who do choose to leave their hair alone, it's just a preference.
