On the back of another thread, just wondering what people would do if they unexpectedly came into that amount of money? I would be torn between sensible middle aged options like kitchens and cars and not sensible midlife crisis options like going on some worldwide trip. AIBU to ask WWYD?

Orient Express for me. We need a new bathroom but feck it.

DerekSprechenZeDick · 07/09/2016 21:56

I'd blow it then regret it

But I'd have fun

ageingrunner · 07/09/2016 21:56

I'd get a cheapish car, a holiday, and a new kitchen floor Smile

ilovesooty · 07/09/2016 21:56

Pay off debts and put the rest towards a holiday.

SabineUndine · 07/09/2016 21:56

Pay off debts and have a new kitchen.

NoCapes · 07/09/2016 21:56

A new driveway!! Grin

LaContessaDiPlump · 07/09/2016 21:57

New driveway, obviously! Grin

Loft conversion, realistically. It would make me very happy, so not a waste.

Viasabatthe2nd · 07/09/2016 21:57

More IVF and a nice holiday.

poorbuthappy · 07/09/2016 21:57

£10k debts. £3k hols.

YelloDraw · 07/09/2016 21:58

New bathroom, spend some on 'stuff' and put anything left to mortgage. but then i'm about to move so house stuff is on my mind!

TheProblemOfSusan · 07/09/2016 21:59

House deposit. All money must be used for worshipping the almighty house deposit.

(But actually a car) (but only a used one so I'd save a bit too)

PickleSarnie · 07/09/2016 21:59

Botox.

New kitchen.

More botox if there's any money left over.

MakeMyWineADouble · 07/09/2016 21:59

If I found it in my back garden deposit on a new house and then plastic surgery Wink

acornsandnuts · 07/09/2016 21:59

5k each in savings for the dcs.
1k on a personal trainer
2k on a holiday

Arsenicinthesugarbowl · 07/09/2016 22:00

Grin at the new driveways! I came looking for updates when I saw this. I would go on holiday somewhere amazing I think!

MsJuniper · 07/09/2016 22:00

IVF.

Driveway if any spare.

Scribblegirl · 07/09/2016 22:00

Blatant NC looking for ideas Grin

EllenJanethickerknickers · 07/09/2016 22:01

Am I sad? I'd put it in an ISA to help for my retirement.

OohMrDarcy · 07/09/2016 22:02

I'd pay off my loan which would leave me £240 better off a month and then the rest would go into savings towards a holiday / house deposit.

Allergictoironing · 07/09/2016 22:02

Pay off any debts, then stick it in a pension. I work in the industry, and it's scary just how many people don't save anything for retirement - state pension is minimal & you can't have a decent retirement just on that.

Domino20 · 07/09/2016 22:03

Start a business.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 07/09/2016 22:03

Travel; probably Antarctica which for 2 people for 3 weeks would easily use up the whole lot. Worth it though.

Scottishchick39 · 07/09/2016 22:03

We won 20k on the lottery raffle and blew the lot on a car each and treats for the family.

greenscarves · 07/09/2016 22:03

Ooh this is such an interesting variety of things to spend it on! Driveways and botox hadn't occurred to me but its the loft conversion that has really got me thinking. It would be a nice amount to have land in your lap but putting it into a mortgage would feel like throwing it away (irrationally I know).

Buy a car, and an intensive 'pass in a week' course for my license. Have a Florida holiday. Pay off small debts with what was left.
