Anyone else not comfortable with this being counted as a crime committed by a woman? And really not comfortable with this person not going to jail? I don't care if there are no female specific classes, (there is a reason for that btw, because women don't do this shit) this person was male enough to commit the crime they are male enough to go to men's prison.

The judge thinks the child may have suffered "some trauma". Some??!!! Judges should be mandated to spend time with childhood abuse survivors and access some decent research on the long-term impact.

What the fuck does 'psychologically female' even mean? I have still never seen an answer to that. Ever.

MorrisZapp · 03/08/2016 11:04

Utterly horrific. Have any other news sources covered this case? I'd hate to link the Daily Mirror on fb.

Yes. It is reported in the Sun, the Daily Star and Somerset Live.

Brandonstarkflakes · 03/08/2016 11:09

It means physically male, but identifying as female, i.e. believing that your physical identity (sex) does not match your psychological identity (gender).

But that still doesn't answer the question of what 'psychologically female' means? What makes someone 'psychologically female'? Is it liking pink glittery shit and makeup?

MrsBruceBogtrotter · 03/08/2016 11:09

MRAs love trans sex offenders because they can use them in their 'Aaah but women rape too!' schtick.

Babyzoo · 03/08/2016 11:10

Yes he should be in jail, a men's jail.

He can be whoever he wants to be, and feel however he wants to feel but since he abused children using his penis he should rot in a men's prison.

It's perfectly possible to be intelligent generally yet have some very stupid and damaging opinions.

Oh Christ. MN trans women hysteria.

Do you people spend a tenth of the time u spend howling about this stuff campaigning for actual constructive causes? Like improving conditions in women's prisons, or getting them work when they get out, or better support for their families while they are incarcerated? Or do you only care about women prisoners when it gives you a chance to shriek about the horrors of a penis (or former penis) hidden behind a skirt?

venusinscorpio · 03/08/2016 11:13

How do you know when someone is "psychologically female"? How can they know, given that they have no reference point of what it feels like to be female, as a biological man?

SpeakNoWords · 03/08/2016 11:13

Sorry, I find the "semantics" to be important for understanding these issues. I find being asked to accept a scientific impossibility to be wrong. I think understanding the difference between sex and gender to be important too.

I think it's acceptable for someone with a GRC to be housed in women's prisons, as currently that means that they would have had surgery etc and so present less of a risk to women and they wouldn't physically present as male. It would also be inappropriate to house them with men given how they present. I don't think it's ok for those who don't yet have a GRC to be housed in women's prisons, as this would be to ignore the dignity, respect and safety of women. Unfortunately it seems that this can happen currently, as with the Tara Hudson case. I suppose the solution at the moment would be to keep them separate in women's prisons, as it would be wrong to expect women to share a cell and bathroom facilities with male-bodied people.

If the law is changed so that a GRC only needs a self declaration of gender, rather than surgery/treatment, then I would not be ok with those people being housed in the women's estate. I think at that point it would need specific housing for trans prisoners.

prh47bridge · 03/08/2016 11:13

I'm not entirely clear why there is so much discussion about gender identity on this thread. The reports mention that the accused has undergone a sex change and refers to her "then male genitalia" at the time of the offence. This strongly suggests that the accused had male genitalia at the time of the offence but does not have male genitalia now. She therefore has either no genitalia (unlikely) or female genitalia. It therefore appears she is physically female.

Babyzoo · 03/08/2016 11:14

You can believe whatever you want. We are always going on about equality and about how gender is just a stereotype.

How the hell do you define 'believes he's a woman'? He can feel and behave however he wants but he was born with male sex organs and male hormones.

Brandonstarkflakes · 03/08/2016 11:14

No, Brandon, again, it means a belief that you are female. It has nothing to do with liking pink things.

But what is it exactly that makes someone 'believe they are female'? What does that feeling involve? That is what no one can seem to explain?

Feel free to take yourself off and not read it, Tabsicle. Or alternatively you can give a reasonable answer to any of the questions and genuine concerns women have laid out in those other threads as well as this one. I won't hold my breath.

'Physically female'? Bollocks. Absence of a penis does not make someone female. Women are not negative men.

SpeakNoWords · 03/08/2016 11:18

tabsicle you have no way of knowing whether people campaign for better treatment and conditions for women prisoners. It's possible to entertain more than one set of concerns at a time, and to have concerns about something that would affect women.

Do you think it's ok to house male-bodied people with women, in a prison type environment - so sharing a cell and bathroom facilities?

Babyzoo · 03/08/2016 11:19

They can't Brandon because it's contradictory to equality.

If you believe that men and women are equal and that they don't need to fit into society's stereotypes then it really doesn't matter what's between your legs in relation to how you live your life.
