MiL has booked a holiday

MiL has rented a house in Cornwall for the week and family are coming and going as they like, we're going down for a few days.

The holiday starts tomorrow, today she has sent 'details', directions and yes she has rented a cot and highchair.

AIBU to want a little more bloody information? Dogs are coming, we have an 18 month old, are there stairs, is she taking food, I hate disorganisation, I like to plan, I have a bloody toddler I can't just chuck clean pants in a bag and be happy, I don't want a detailed itinerary but I'd like some bloody idea of what is happening.

Annoyingly I cannot find a website for the cottage by googling the address so I can't even work it out for myself. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

What would you take if there are stairs? Crampons? Confused
Assuming you're driving take everything. Wellies, swim clothes, sun cream, special milk if needed...
If you're feeling organised take some food that can come home again with you if not needed.

You're getting a free holiday and you're still complaining because you're having to make a friendly phone call to your generous MIL just to get some details. It's a parallel universe on here at times.

If it were me, I would reply and ask her those questions.

"Do you know if there are stairs in the cottage? I could do with knowing whether we should bring a stairgate for DS." (as an aside "cottage" suggests something with an upstairs & downstairs to me.)

With regards to food - I would take a day's worth with you. Especially for DS. Within the first 24 hours you will be able to find a Spar type shop, if not a supermarket, to buy more if need be. Much better than having to go out foraging for food the moment you arrive.

If there is anything else you need to know the politely ask. It's your holiday too - why shouldn't you know what it involves?

What a nice thing to do id love that ! Sometimes the best times are the ones you don't plan to every little detail

Pack what you would expect to pack for a short break in the uk in summer . Dive in the car and off you go. Enjoy yourselfs . What else is there to know ?!

I mean this in a nice way Op. You sound way too cross about what to take to look after a child in a cottage. Just call your mil and have a lovely time in Cornwall.

Live a little Wink pack what you need, take extra food (or possibly visit Cornish supermarkets)

When we used to go on holiday with extended family it involved at least a fortnight of fielding phone calls detailing who was bringing what, and timetabling every bloody minute of the day.

By the time the holiday was over, I needed another holiday Grin YABU

I understand where you're coming from (I'm a planner) but sometimes you can't plan for every eventuality. I'd send a message asking if she knows of any local takeaways (cottage owners might have sent some info on the area) and have one first night. Then you can do a food shop the second day. But take dog food and milk and something for your lo with you then there's something all ready when you get there. As long as you pack for every season (the joys of British summers) you'll be fine
And have a lovely holiday I love Cornwall Smile

She's your DH's mum. Get him to phone her and discuss the options. It's weird that you haven't been chatting about it for ages.

Maybe she's pissed off that everyone else has left her to do all the organising without even phoning and asking what needs doing/organising.

I'm glad most people seem to have had the same response on here because I do know people who would complain about this type of thing in real life to me and I just sit there thinking There fkin nuts and just nodding in the right places
