I just can't bear it, DH loves it and thinks it's bizarre I don't. I hate the violence the sickening violence and debasement oh dear I've gone Victorian
I try and go out the room or read MN but he keeps saying "oh you missed such and such do such and such".
Maybe I should ltb Hmm
I think the dragons and wolves are pretty though. Grin

Gave up after two series. Those I found enjoyable but overrated. Some good acting and great scenery but the dialogue often stodgy and the gratuitous porn... Couldn't handle the torture scenes in Series Three and haven't watched since.

What I find irritating is always hearing "GOT made fantasy respectable, or intelligent, or grown-up" It does not have a fraction of the wit and originality of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or even the quality of something like Babylon 5.

branofthemist · 28/06/2016 07:03

bran The Battle of the Bastards is the BEST EPISODE OF ALL!!!!

I am so excited! Nearly finished season four. Trying to get through 1 or 2 episodes a night. After the kids are in bed. Very much a late comer to this

SestraClone · 28/06/2016 07:04

YANBU! I am not "faint hearted" - I love The Walking Dead, Outlander & so on, but GoT is just awful.

AgingJuvenileBinkyHuckaback · 28/06/2016 07:06

YANBU. I love it, but DH describes it to the DC as "Mum's programme where horrible people doing horrible things to other horrible people, horribly, which she enjoys for some reason Hmm". My attempt to defend my tastes runs to a rather pathetic "Ermmm....Brienne's nice! She's not horrible."

TENDTOprocrastinate · 28/06/2016 07:07

Yabu.

YABU
I'm completely obsessed with it!! Amazing battle scenes (Battle of The Blackwater, Battle of The Bastards etc), crazy drama and unexpected twists (season 6 finale - wildfire, that's all I say in case people haven't watched it yet!).
The violence really doesn't bother me...it's pretty tame in comparison to lots of TV/Movies.
The sex scenes don't bother me, after all, it's completely fictional!!

Trills · 28/06/2016 07:41

It's OK for different people to like different things.

It's not OK for your DH to insist on you joining in watching something you don't want to watch.

I like it.

LunaLoveg00d · 28/06/2016 07:43

It's not my thing at all - saw the first couple of episodes because everyone was raving about it, didn't like it at all. Too gory (and gore for the sake of gore). I'm not a huge fan of fantasy in general though.

Best thing I've seen recently is a Spanish drama called "Locked Up".

ProjectUniverse · 28/06/2016 07:44

I love it. But this season have had to endure a sanitised version as the country I live in now has restrictions on what can be shown. No nudity at all and I suspect the violence is very, very much toned down - I feel robbed!!! Sad

Fairylea · 28/06/2016 07:44

Can't stand it. Dh keeps trying to get me into it but I got half way through the first season and fell asleep during every episode I was so bored Blush

Sanchar · 28/06/2016 07:48

Loved the books, hated the show.

Like others have said, too violent, too porny . And from what I've heard from others quite a bit has been changed from the books(red wedding from off the top of my head, didn't happen like that in the book).

Figgygal · 28/06/2016 07:52

Love it here it's well produced, strong characters, visuals and acting.

it has got decidedly less racy as the seasons have gone on and it's steadily positioning the female characters as the strongest and most powerful on the show.

Can't wait for next year!!

AgingJuvenileBinkyHuckaback · 28/06/2016 08:02

Does it fit neatly into a half hour slot Universe? Grin

WellErrr · 28/06/2016 08:09

YANBU. Can't get past the rape porn and misogyny.

BertrandRussell · 28/06/2016 08:13

What WellErr said. And it's so cynical in its use of rape porn too.

ProjectUniverse · 28/06/2016 08:15

We have 45 mins usually. I have wondered if it's got different cuts of the same scenes. I doubt I'm in the only country in the world that censors TV!

MoneybagsIamnot · 28/06/2016 08:24

YANBU,

I love GOT and watch every episode but I really do have to look away from the violence, it really is EXTREME and can make for very distressing viewing.

The porn yes, though thankfully there hasn't really been too much of that in the last couple of series, not like the first few which were just, well porn!

Drogon · 28/06/2016 08:32

I do love GOT, but there have been a few moments that I think were a step too far. Princess Shireen, Wanda Bolton (is that her name?) and her baby etc (don't want to post anything that might spoil it!)

I just sat with my eyes closed and my ears covered until DP told me it was safe to watch again Blush

I'm going to be controversial and say that the last episode of season 6 was the best episode yet, closely followed by Battle of the Bastards Grin

Sallystyle · 28/06/2016 08:35

I don't like porn, I don't like watching anything with sexual violence in it.

So yes, unwatchable.

BertrandRussell · 28/06/2016 08:42

What do you think it does to the sensibility of the younger people who watch it?

SootSprite · 28/06/2016 08:45

Jeez, if you don't like it, don't watch it. It's not being forced on anyone.

There are thousands of tv programmes that don't appeal to me, and so I don't watch them. You don't have to justify your tv viewing choices. I'm not sure why you even felt the need to start a thread about it?

Game of thrones is immensely popular and successful, but it is just 10 hours of tv viewing per year.

Greengager · 28/06/2016 08:47

i agree with you. I can't watch it as it's far too violent but that doesn't bother most people I know. I worry we've all become very desensitised and risk loosing empathy irl.

LaurieMarlow · 28/06/2016 08:50

I think it's extraordinary. Humans at their most base. Power at its most raw.

The psychological development of the characters in the books is superlative - see the heart breaking Reek chapters for just one example.

Some of the acting on the show is fabulous. Some, not so much. But the staging is generally stunning.

Greengager · 28/06/2016 08:53

In contrast to soot (why do people have a problem about people starting threads that they don't think there's a point too? Just don't read it!) I'm glad you posted this OP its nice to know that other people feel the same. I loved the books but can't watch that level of violence especially when there are children involved.

weirdsister · 28/06/2016 08:56

'It does not have a fraction of the wit and originality of Buffy the Vampire Slayer '

Would that be the Buffy who spent much of her time mooning over boys? I loved Buffy but it's not dated well at all. GOT will still be incredible to watch in 20 years time.
