I just can't bear it, DH loves it and thinks it's bizarre I don't. I hate the violence the sickening violence and debasement oh dear I've gone Victorian
I try and go out the room or read MN but he keeps saying "oh you missed such and such do such and such".
Maybe I should ltb Hmm
I think the dragons and wolves are pretty though. Grin

I thought I would hate it so put off watching it for ages. I've binge watched it and have just got the very last episode to go.

I absolutely love it. Just love it.

There have been a few things that I've looked away from but the battle scenes are amazing.

Alisvolatpropiis · 27/06/2016 23:29

Flump

I assume you've never seen any of the Saw films or indeed just plain old Criminal Minds? Both are significantly more unpleasant and less well acted.

notamummy10 · 27/06/2016 23:30

It's very overhyped imo

inabizzlefam · 27/06/2016 23:30

DS1 told me it was all bonking and violence. I thought I could get past the bonking, but only lasted about about 3 mins into 1st episode....I realised the violence was going to be too much for me so switched off.
I think it's like marmite, love it or hate it, but I do find the global adoration puzzling.

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 27/06/2016 23:32

Nope I don't watch horror I admit but criminal minds I have no issue with. Slightly different though Confused

I read the books, thought them ok, watched the series and thought NO! Cheap rape porn and relentless blood and needless violence.
This from someone who watches and adores The Walking Dead.
I do love Tyrion though.

OrangeFluff · 27/06/2016 23:33

YABU Grin it's brilliant, I'm hooked! The first seasons had too much unnecessary nudity and sex, but there's not really much of that any more. And in the latest season it's the women that are the most powerful now.

GreatFuckability · 27/06/2016 23:36

yabu, its well made, well acted, well researched, well scored drama.

i'd take GoT over 98% of the drivel that passes for entertainment on tv these days.

yes, its violent, but thats not all there is too it.

Misnomer · 27/06/2016 23:36

From a historical point most of it is true.

Seriously? (I'm trying to find the chocking whilst laughing emoticon but there isn't one Hmm)

Anyway, aside from the breath-taking historical accuracy of it, I'm also struggling to get into the series. I've watched four episodes now and keep wondering when it's going to become really compelling because it's not happened yet.

youshouldcancelthecheque · 27/06/2016 23:39

The violence is horrific, I hate it and wonder how people that I like get enjoyment out of scenes like that....

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 27/06/2016 23:39

I have watched the walking dead. Not my cup of tea but it doesn't bother me. It's not actually a historically accurate programme though Hmm

GreatFuckability · 27/06/2016 23:40

I don't get the misogyny. Yes, awful things happen to the women, but equally awful things, happen to the men. Dany, Sansa, Arya, Cersei, Yara, Ellaria Sand, even little Lyanna Mormont. All strong, successful female characters.

CastielsClevererBetterSister · 27/06/2016 23:43

YADNBU ... tried and failed to stay interested for one episode let alone one season. Not a problem with watching violence, love supernatural/fantasy shows. Turned it off after 20 minutes cos I'd found myself mentally planning tea for the week. Never the sign of a good show if you're pulling a Mrs Beeton while it's playing!

actually much of how the houses are set up, the battles are fought, the way knights are chosen is very historically accurate.
for instance the shield formation in the battle of the bastards geekandsundry.com/a-military-officer-reveals-the-history-behind-game-of-thrones-battle-tactics/

MargaretCavendish · 27/06/2016 23:46

From a historical point most of it is true.

well researched

??????
I love it, it's gripping, well-plotted, spectacle TV. But it is so, so far from being historically accurate. When would it even be a historical depiction of?! It's set in a sort of late medieval-ish world, but it has dragons, viking-ish people and pict-ish people.

AuntDotsie · 27/06/2016 23:48

YANBU. I'm longing for some TV where there are unicorns and bunnies. I've had enough of soft porn and gore. And of children being burned, babies eaten by dogs, women being raped and murdered. I just don't need it in my life, really.

But I've committed now so will have to see it out.

Dozer · 27/06/2016 23:50

Too much violence, especially against women. I do like the reviews online and the MN threads though, great theories!

Flumpsnlumpsnstuff · 27/06/2016 23:53

Dozer you're a genius GrinI don't need to watch it I will read the mn threads and just tell DH what happens as he watches it on catch up Winkthat will drive him nutsoid and keep me entertained

GreatFuckability · 27/06/2016 23:54

by well researched i mean it has nice little throw backs to movies at times, it has stuff that is based on historically real events as in the link above. That aside, the world GRRM has created is massively complex, so they've clearly spent a lot of time looking into how that world works and the intricacies to simplify it for tv.

its new, interesting, challenging, not predictable. can't see whats not to love myself!

NeedACleverNN · 27/06/2016 23:56

It is a very violent program so it's never going to be to everyone's taste.

But I do love it. And so does DH. This weeks episode has left me hanging on the edge of my seat and I am looking forward to next years

ToadsforJustice · 27/06/2016 23:56

I don't see the appeal. It's just dragons and tits.

ManonLescaut · 27/06/2016 23:57

Ye cod medievale rape porn.

And I really dislike dragons. And fantasy shit in general.

ManonLescaut · 27/06/2016 23:59

From a historical point most of it is true.

What?
