I am that weight and height and I often get people telling me how skinny I look and that I need to gain weight.

No.

I'm 5ft 3" and I weigh 6stone 3 pounds

Inyournightdress · 18/06/2016 11:57

Well it would mean you bmi was in the healthy weight range. Bottom of the healthy range but healthy none the less.

Drbint · 18/06/2016 11:57

Duh, it depends on your build, muscle etc

Your problem is people being rude,

TheUnsullied · 18/06/2016 11:58

It is slim though.

Is this going to be one of those threads where people out-skinny each other?

Mellowautumn · 18/06/2016 11:58

Errrrh do you have a history of eating disorders or similar body dismorphic issues? If not can I really really suggest to vist your GP and ask them about heathy body weights and I'm sure you will be reassured and perhaps get any help you might need.

hootatoot · 18/06/2016 11:59

It depends on your build I suppose. I'm 5'2" and the lightest I've been as an adult is 8st 10 which made me a small size 8 (always a 12 previously) and had ppl tell me I was too skinny and they were worried about me. The top and bottom is that you can't win. Someone always has an opinion on us! If you're happy and healthy, ignore them.

formerbabe · 18/06/2016 11:59

I'm 5'2 and wore size 10 jeans at 9 stone so yes I'd say 8 stone at 5'4" would be quite slim.

MaidOfStars · 18/06/2016 11:59

I'm the same height and weight, OP. I'm pear-shared though, so rarely get called 'skinny'. I get a lot of 'don't lose anymore', which gives me the rage.

Aeroflotgirl · 18/06/2016 11:59

It is quite slim, am trying that height and 10,5 stone

AGruffaloCrumble · 18/06/2016 12:01

YABU.
I'm 5"4 and when I am 8st I am a size at best. I would consider it slim but it all depends on personal build. At 8st I look gaunt.

fuctifino · 18/06/2016 12:01

I'd look pretty poorly at that weight, I am 5'5" and 10st 6lbs, a size 10.

ifyoulikepinacolada · 18/06/2016 12:02

Have you always been this size? How much energy do you have day to day? Do you exercise? Do you watch what you eat or feel stressed going to social events where the food will be out of your control?

8 stone is very slim for 5"4 - but I can't tell from your post whether you've always been healthy and wish people would butt out, or whether this is a recent loss and you can't see how far it's gone, or any of a million other possibilities iyswim!

stopgap · 18/06/2016 12:02

I think it's slim, but not worryingly so.

I'm 5'7.5 and 8 stone 10lbs, and still have a bum and 34C boobs. I am really narrow in the hips and have skinny legs that, in spite of weight lifting, are still thin. People say I'm slim but no-one has ever described me as way too thin or urged me to gain weight.

cosytoaster · 18/06/2016 12:02

It definitely is slim, but not to the extent that you should need to gain weight.

cardibach · 18/06/2016 12:02

Need I think BMI is a bit rubbish for individuals, but your weight and height out you as seriously underweight on that system. I know there are outliers where the BMI doesn't reflect health, but I think you suggesting someone isn't slim because they aren't as light as you is dangerous nonsense. You may be healthy at that weight (I don't know) but the vast majority wouldn't. The OPs weight and height put her in the bottom bit of healthy BMI, so I think she probably is slim. Best health outcomes are in the overweight range, incidentally m possibly because BMI recommendations were randomly altered downwards after they were introduced...

AGruffaloCrumble · 18/06/2016 12:02

Need
So your BMI is only 15? I would consider that dangerously underweight.

HahahahaFuckYou · 18/06/2016 12:03

It's slim but not 'skinny'
I'm 5'6 and 7stone 5 but look pretty healthy.

NapoleonsNose · 18/06/2016 12:03

I'm 5'3" and the lightest I've been as an adult is 10.2 - I was a 10/12 - I do have enormous norks though! People were telling me then I'd lost too much weight. I guess it depends on how you're built to a certain extent.

Hadbetterdays · 18/06/2016 12:03

I've always been this size. I have a healthy diet where I allow myself treats and walk quite a lot.

OP posts:
AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 18/06/2016 12:04

It's slim but not skinny. If you stayed that weight as you got older then you might start to look a bit gaunt, and there is an argument that women's ideal healthy weight range gets a bit higher as they get older - but it's really hard to prove for certain where the cause and effect lie.

Janeymoo50 · 18/06/2016 12:04

I was that once (long ago). People often commented on my slimness, looking at photos now I looked gaunt actually and my size 10 work skirt swivelled around my waist. I looked better when I had actually put on a few pounds.

PortiaCastis · 18/06/2016 12:05

Why does it matter ?

ReginaBlitz · 18/06/2016 12:06

Agree with poster up thread about a thread out skinnying. It depends on body shape etc there is no right and wrong. I'm 5.2 and when I was 8.5 I looked like a smack head tbf and haggered.

HooseRice · 18/06/2016 12:06

I'm 5'3" and slim at anything below 10 st

I've never been "skinny" even at 7 st something.
