To think 8 stone at 5'4 isn't that slim

I am that weight and height and I often get people telling me how skinny I look and that I need to gain weight.

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 18/06/2016 12:07

I'm 7ft 9 and weigh 3st 7lbs. Do I win?

NeedACleverNN · 18/06/2016 12:08

Yes my BMI is very low but I've always been this weight. My height and weight haven't changed in the last 10 years apart from during pregnancy

ReginaBlitz · 18/06/2016 12:08

And tbh this thread is pretty pointless and a tiny bit braggy (yet I've still commented).

FairNotFair · 18/06/2016 12:09

I'm 5 ft 4 and 12 stone and I will crush you all.

So I win.

User543212345 · 18/06/2016 12:09

Surely it depends on your frame, your muscle/fat ratio, your health and your attitude to it? I'm 5'5" and when I weigh under 8 1/2 stone I stop having periods and wear a size 6. Other women my height weigh the same and wear bigger clothes and are perfectly healthy with it, but I'm not because my body fat drops too low. If you're healthy and happy I fail to see what the problem is. Other people can fuck off.

Grin Grin oyster

TremoloGreen · 18/06/2016 12:10

It's slim but healthy. Not 'skinny' which to me means underweight. People have just lost sight of what a healthy weight looks like.

Lj8893 · 18/06/2016 12:10

I'm 5"5 and although very overweight now, I would looks very ill at 8 stone. It's slim yes but couldn't tell you if you look skinny or not without looking at you. Different weights suit different people.

megletthesecond · 18/06/2016 12:11

Not skinny. Just low end of BMI slim.

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2016 12:11

This is me lying down _

murmuration · 18/06/2016 12:11

That's terribly rude of them. What if you were ill? Telling someone to gain weight is just as bad as telling them to lose.

Anyway, if it's that been your stable weight I see no problem with it.

My stable weight used to be 8.5 stone as the same height, and I definitely looked slim. People also used to think I was 'tall' as well. Any lighter and I would have been skeletal, but I have a very large frame.

WalkingBlind · 18/06/2016 12:12

I'm 5'3 and 9st and visually "slim/skinny", you have to factor in how much muscle weighs and where your lumps and bumps are (for example I have no hips or bum at all but a very large chest so look much weightier with none tight fit Clothes) but I think you may not realise how petite you are as everyone sees themselves bigger than they are

I don't see this thread as a contest it's clearly someone who wants help with the perception of their body, which isn't wrong as so many other people influence our view

I'm 5'4 and 8 stone and I do have really skinny legs but the rest of me isn't that thin and my belly certainly isn't (although its all relative). I would happily shift some weight from my stomach / upper body to my legs but it doesn't seem to work like that!

I do get fed up with people telling me I'm too thin though and the reality is that it tends to be people who are on diets who say it.

TheImprobableGirl · 18/06/2016 12:14

In 5ft 1 and 13.7st-
Apparently I'm MORBIDLY obese!

Apart from I'm not, I'm a size 14, big of nork, and skinny of ankle with a nice arse and wobbly bits in between.

But because I'm MORBIDLY obese, there is not a higher category apart from being dead through fatness. So the only way is down

I was that weight probably about 12 years ago. I still have a skirt I can fit into - marks and Spencer's size 8- but it used to move right round me. Now at a good stone heavier it fits snugly. Shape has changed though after dc and getting older

LordTrash · 18/06/2016 12:14

You're the same height and weight as dd1, whom I would describe as slim and healthy. For a while last year she was nearer seven stone and that was definitely too thin for her frame. I'm much happier now (and so is she).

ManonLescaut · 18/06/2016 12:15

YANBU

I'm 5'5 weigh 7 stone 11. At 8 stone I'm not that slim - I'd have a bit of a belly.

It really depends on your build, figure, muscle mass and how you carry weight.

FuriousFate · 18/06/2016 12:15

Are you me? Same height and weight here. Healthy I'd say, BMI within normal range. I'm always being told I'm too thin, but usually by people who are actually overweight and have no real idea of what normal is.

TheImprobableGirl · 18/06/2016 12:16

My bmi tells me I should weigh 7 and a half stone. I would look like a head on a stick if I did that! As long as you feel OK then tell them to lump it

ohtheholidays · 18/06/2016 12:17

It is slim OP but take no notice.

I went down to a size 4 at 5ft 6 and the amount of crap I got for that, always from women.I have ulcerative colitis and had no choice over how small I'd got and lots of them knew that!

Quiero · 18/06/2016 12:20

What the fuck are these threads all about? Why do they keep coming up? They spark really odd behaviour in people.

UnderslungBowlingBall · 18/06/2016 12:20

FairNotFair I'm 5'7" and 13st, bring it on!

HyacinthBouquetNo1 · 18/06/2016 12:20

I am 5ft 3. A few years ago, I was very stressed and my appetite just went and I dropped to 7st 13, and to be honest, I looked and felt terrible, my arms and legs are my thinnest parts anyway and they were like sticks and I lost fat from my face and I could see lines around my mouth, I looked so OLD. I have since put weight back on and filled out the wrinkles and look much better.
