To think 8 stone at 5'4 isn't that slim

Hadbetterdays · 18/06/2016 11:54

I am that weight and height and I often get people telling me how skinny I look and that I need to gain weight.

OP posts:
Rachel0Greep · 18/06/2016 14:29

I am over 7ft tall (there's quite a few of us about of that height).

Me too!
Are you getting married soon? I think I saw a thread about you... Wink

BastardGoDarkly · 18/06/2016 14:29

ghosty that makes you a fat cunt

Honestly, this kind of thread worries me.

Aeroflotgirl · 18/06/2016 14:30

Exactly ghosty, proannas would love this thread.

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2016 14:34

To be fair, there are millions of threads on the internet that will be triggering for many people, in many different ways.

For example, the 'Wine o'clock' threads could be triggering to alcoholics.

Having said that, I have no idea what the OP actually wanted from this thread and why she interacted on it only once, after her opening post.

Weird.

ghostyslovesheep · 18/06/2016 14:37

well as someone who has recovered from anorexia Worra I can assure you a thread where endless women list sizes/weights/hights and ask if they are fat is basically a competitive weigh in - which is like crack to an anorexic

Alconleigh · 18/06/2016 14:41

I'm 7 and three quarter stone and 5 foot 2. I'm slender with a bit of a tum. Given the impending right wing racist cretin apocalypse on Thursday though, I don't really give a shit.

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2016 14:41

I don't disagree ghosty.

However, this being the internet, there will be 1000s of triggers for 1000s of people.

Also, the thread subject is clear in the title.

But on the other hand, this thread does seem particularly pointless.

Doobigetta · 18/06/2016 14:48

I'm 5'5". I look a bit too thin at 8 stone, great at 9, and like I need to lose a bit at 10. But it does seem to vary a lot from one person to the next- I've seen people who look much rounder than me but at least claim to weigh a fair bit less.

Sellingyesterdaysnews · 18/06/2016 14:50

Don't go to the GP to ask about healthy weights! Just google NHS BMI fgs

specialsubject · 18/06/2016 14:51

yep, that's why the guidance on BMI gives a RANGE, not an ABSOLUTE.

the healthy weight range for my height is over 2 stone.

but this obvious statement would mean no threads like these....

also glad to see MN taking note of the suggestion that we should all respect each other over the referendum. (heavy sarcasm...)

TaraCarter · 18/06/2016 14:59

I am not going to join in the competitive weigh in, because I agree about the potential repercussions to some posters health.

If anyone here, including the OP, is genuinely concerned they may be too slim, this thread won't help you. What you could perhaps consider is how you feel. Do you feel weak, or full of energy? Can you walk uphill at a brisk pace without feeling faint? Is your current weight your normal weight or a unexpected change for you?

If you remain concerned, make an appointment with your GP.

FurryLittleTwerp · 18/06/2016 15:00

I'm 5'4" & 8st 10lb

I have been 8st - I looked too thin, especially with my clothes off!

Summerwood1 · 18/06/2016 15:01

No not at all. I'm same height but 7 1/2 stone

namechangeparents · 18/06/2016 15:08

8 stone at 5 foot 4 is very slim. I am just under 5 foot 4 and generally hover just under 9 stone and would describe myself as slim. I can't imagine being a whole stone lighter. How do you get clothes by the way - I wear size 8. I suppose some places do a size 6 but if they don't?

You probably couldn't give blood at that weight either (well not if you are 7 stone 13 and a half pounds).

camelfinger · 18/06/2016 15:14

Sounds pretty slim, but don't see why it should attract comments, that's just rude. However, I'm that height and would love to wake up at 8 stone so I could stuff myself up to 9 stone and look pretty good.

WorraLiberty · 18/06/2016 15:15

namechange, perhaps the OP doesn't need a size 6?

I'm the same height and 3lbs heavier, yet I couldn't fit into a size 6 if I tried. I'm a size 8 to 10, depending on the style and the shop but never a size 6.

I can also give blood because I have a healthy BMI.

talktotheface · 18/06/2016 15:20

There is a website called cockeyed.com where you can see photos people have added of themselves arranged by weight and height. It's interesting to see the difference in how different people carry their weight depending on body shape, race, even posture..

WanHeda · 18/06/2016 15:24

I hate all this goady fuckwittery where all the posters out skinny each other. I have friends in real life like this and they are so fucking boring.

ManonLescaut · 18/06/2016 15:30

I don't get this paranoia about weight threads.

I find them interesting, because you get a wide variety of sizes and weights. I don't skinny competitive vibe at all. People are being really honest. And most people are normal weight.

Aeroflotgirl · 18/06/2016 16:03

What if you are not Manon, you come across this on a well known parenting website, and you feel bad about yourself, as everybody else is slim, and not you. It can make a person feel absolutely rubbish if they feel crap already.

NeedACleverNN · 18/06/2016 16:11

Pretty soon we are going to need an approved list of what we can talk about Hmm

Can't talk about weight it's triggering
Can't talk about alcohol is triggering
Can't talk about how hard having babies is sometimes because it's triggering

Can't talk about dogs it's triggering.

It's getting ridiculous

ScoutandAtticus · 18/06/2016 16:18

I guess it depends on your frame. I am they same height but don't think I would like right with such a low weight. But my friend who is the same height probably weighs less than you and looks good. Surely you know yourself if you look skinny or not?

Aeroflotgirl · 18/06/2016 16:22

No need, this is just a pointless thread about people comparing how slim they are, not an intelligent discussion about weight issues.

meggy22 · 18/06/2016 16:30

Definitely is slim. I'm 5'4" and 9 stone and a size 10. I have been just over 8 stone before and I was very slim and a size 8. I'm more comfortable and look healthier at 9 stone. Everyone's different though

bigbuttons · 18/06/2016 16:38

Weight isn't a good guiding factor as many pp have already said. If you feel and look healthy that's what matters. I am the same height as the op and years ago used to weigh myself all the time. I think my lowest weight was 7.5 and I was too small. I haven't gone near any scales for years, I go by my clothes. People think that I am tiny, childlike and I can wear teen trousers. I wear 6 bottoms but 10 on top. Recently a friend picked me up and exclaimed that I was much heavier than Iooked! I exercise a lot. My wrists are child size. It's about frame surely?
