To ask how many teeth you have?

I've got 28 teeth. My wisdom teeth came through at age 18-ish, then I have 3 more molars (on each side top and bottom), then a canine, then 2 incisors at the front. Totalling 28. But I've just read that adults generally have 32. Why am I missing some teeth? A diagram shows 4 molars, not 3. I have no gaps and have never had any teeth removed!

Hrafnkel · 26/03/2016 21:26

I've got 24. Had all my wisdom teeth removed, as well as 4 when getting brace fitted.

I can't explain yours - you didn't have any wisdom teeth removed?

RandomMess · 26/03/2016 21:27

Sad I only have 24 as the dentist took lots out as I "didn't have room" I actually have some gaps now.

Are you sure they were your wisdom teeth? 18ish is early for the to come through I think? It's more usual for them to never come through.

Bookridden · 26/03/2016 21:27
  1. Had 4 removed as a child due to over crowding, and 1 as an adult. Don't know what happened to the other one.
RandomMess · 26/03/2016 21:27

Are your pre-molars missing?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 26/03/2016 21:28

I've got 28 + 4 teeth removed for braces.

Noodledoodledoo · 26/03/2016 21:28

I have 28 as I had all of my wisdom teeth removed as there wasn't enough space. When I go to the dentist they count from 7 down and up again for both top and bottom!

NovaArt3mis · 26/03/2016 21:29
  1. Top right wisdom tooth never came in.

DH is giving me strange looks while I count my teeth.

hummingbird100 · 26/03/2016 21:29

So another 32 then...how odd! Grin I've never had anything done to my teeth apart from one tiny filling. I vaguely remember as a teen a dentist said I had unusual teeth but I never asked him more about it - I've been counting DH's teeth and asking my friends on a Saturday (they were Hmm but went off and counted) and they all have 32, one friend had 28 but has had 4 removed!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/03/2016 21:30

27 one removed, how many is an adult supposed to have?

negrilbaby · 26/03/2016 21:30

Same as Hrafnkel - 24. Four wisdom teeth removed and 4 others removed when younger - overcrowded mouth.

Notagainmun · 26/03/2016 21:31

28 all 4 wisdom teeth removed as they were only partially erupted due to lack of space.

StarlingMurmuration · 26/03/2016 21:32

28 - no wisdom teeth because I'm evolutionarily more developed.

wavingnow · 26/03/2016 21:33

31 had a wisdom removed last year after bad fall.

hummingbird100 · 26/03/2016 21:34

(Peers into mirror) It looks like what is missing is one of the bigger molars at the back. The others are definitely wisdom teeth Random, I had a mild infection when one of the bottom ones came up and a dentist said they were wisdom teeth. I have no more room for any more going back! Hmmm...

Another with 24. Four premolars removed when I was 15 before I had braces. Wisdoms out at 21. I also had 9 milk teeth removed as the fuckers wouldn't fall out. It gives me limited sympathy for DH complaining after having a wisdom tooth out last week.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 26/03/2016 21:35

blimey just googled and should have 32, I am missing 4 teeth I knew nothing about Shock

TheCrumpettyTree · 26/03/2016 21:36
  1. I have no wisdom teeth, never have done. I also don't have one of my other back teeth. They just aren't there.
hummingbird100 · 26/03/2016 21:36

Apparently 32 Step, I think 28 if wisdom teeth haven't come up but I'm sure mine did!

Starling maybe I am too! Grin

  1. I have a very small jaw and had 4 teeth removed to make room. I had my wisdom teeth removed for the same reason. I had a molar removed due to an abscess that wouldn't respond to root canal treatment.
pointythings · 26/03/2016 21:37

I have 29 - have had two wisdom teeth removed at various stages in my life (one at age 19, they do come through early in some people). I have one wisdom teeth remaining, the last one hasn't even developed.

None of them have any fillings - I consider myself genetically blessed.

slebmum1 · 26/03/2016 21:37

30 - 1 extracted for brace and 1 wisdom tooth extracted

hummingbird100 · 26/03/2016 21:38

Sweary that sounds brutal! I haven't heard of milk teeth not coming out!

OP posts:
Squiff85 · 26/03/2016 21:38

Just counted, 31

Wisdom teeth are the most common tooth to be congenitally absent.
