To ask how many teeth you have?

I've got 28 teeth. My wisdom teeth came through at age 18-ish, then I have 3 more molars (on each side top and bottom), then a canine, then 2 incisors at the front. Totalling 28. But I've just read that adults generally have 32. Why am I missing some teeth? A diagram shows 4 molars, not 3. I have no gaps and have never had any teeth removed!

31! One of my wisdoms hasn't surfaced yet. I'm only 25 so thinking there is time yet!

emwithme · 26/03/2016 22:51

Had one set of pre-molars out three times (baby tooth, adult tooth x 2 sets - I think I am part shark, but apparently my Granddad was cutting his fourth full set of teeth when he died) to make room/have braces etc and my wisdom teeth came out in 4 separate incidents in my 20s.

NYCBadger · 26/03/2016 22:52

I have 28 now after having my 4 wisdom teeth removed a while ago. Grin

Pebbles16 · 26/03/2016 22:54
  1. Lower wisdom teeth removed at 18 (impacted, general, ouch). Upper wisdoms never came through. Neither did any back molars. Did have "shark" teeth though. About six extra teeth in my 20s. I blame those little bottles of milk you used to get at school!
JaceLancs · 26/03/2016 22:56

24 - no wisdom teeth and others removed to straighten as I apparently have a very small mouth!! Not sure my dear ones would agree

Redderred · 26/03/2016 23:10

I have 31 and one hiding underneath that hasnt come through yet.
Some people actually have 3 sets of teeth Shock

Gabilan · 26/03/2016 23:12
  1. 3 wisdom teeth came through. X-rays show there isn't a fourth.
TattyDevine · 26/03/2016 23:15

28, wisdom teeth removed (all 4), impacted, age 19.

TattyDevine · 26/03/2016 23:16

Had bruises on my chest where they had to kneel on me to yank them out, apparently. Looked like a gerbil for a good week after...

Stoneagemum · 26/03/2016 23:36

28, had 4 removed for braces to make room (for wisdom teeth to come through later)

On a side note ds had 21 milk teeth, he had a double tooth as a child, dentist said although it was uncommon it was not unusual whatever that means Confused

hollinhurst84 · 26/03/2016 23:40

31, had one removed

Stoneagemum · 26/03/2016 23:44

I thought I had read somewhere that a possible cause of tooth overcrowding in modern times is due to poor jaw development because of more easily chewed foods, so less jaw movement needed to chew so less blood flow to jaw, less growth, less space but still same number of teeth?

TheNoodlesIncident · 26/03/2016 23:48

I still have three milk teeth - a baby molar which has no adult tooth to replace it, and two where the canines ought to be, but aren't because they got snagged and couldn't come down. The dentists took x-rays (which are totally fascinating) and the two canines can be seen lying at about 45 degree angles in my jaw.

Naturally the front baby teeth are in a sorry state seeing as I'm 45, they have caps on because they got so small.

I also have a wisdom tooth (Upper Right) erupting now, whether it will come all the way out remains to be seen. The other 3 aren't bothering.

JustBeingJuliet · 26/03/2016 23:52

33! Bizarrely I have 17 at the bottom and 16 at the top, yet all my wisdom teeth are through and my dentist has never found any issues with my teeth. I've just counted 3 times to make sure. Where has the extra one come from??

bakingcupcakes · 26/03/2016 23:57

I have 32. DS has an extra front tooth. Had no idea you could grow extra teeth. I was a bit gutted the front ones arn't completely straight until the dentist said it was an extra and most children only have 20.

milkbottle · 26/03/2016 23:58

32

Stoneagemum · 27/03/2016 00:00

Baking my ds was the same

WhoisLucasHood · 27/03/2016 00:01

I have 27 but had 8 taken out before braces.

HoundoftheBaskervilles · 27/03/2016 00:01

26, all wisdom teeth out plus two back molars as a result of wisdom tooth impaction during pregnancy, is Mrs Morton not around? She's a dentist, I'm sure she would have pertinent words to say on the matter!

ChocolateEggGnawingMachine · 27/03/2016 00:04

I have 28. 3 wisdom teeth were removed a few years ago as I have a small jaw & had had a decade of pain with them trying to come through, dentist removed them after the septicaemia cleared up...

My sister has a complete third set that have never descended. She's seen an x-ray & can feel them in her gums. Handy, I should think, in case she ever loses one, as they can apparently just come through into the space.

CointreauVersial · 27/03/2016 00:06

I have 28 - the first four premolars were whipped out to make room so that a brace could pull down my canine fangs.

My BF at school was missing her second incisors - they never grew. Her DM was exactly the same.

EveryoneElsie · 27/03/2016 00:07

26 but I've had at least 8 removed. I had 3 sets of adult teeth and an overcrowded mouth.

dimots · 27/03/2016 00:08

Full set of 32. No fillings. I am in my late forties...

Monkeyonmyback · 27/03/2016 02:48

32 - wisdom teeth came thru when I was about 12 and somehow managed to perfectly line up with the rest of my mouth. Only had one tiny filling ever

SinisterBumFacedCat · 27/03/2016 03:01

Not many. 8 original teeth, 9 teeth capped and 2 fake teeth amidst my capped ones. I've had horrendous problems with my teeth, despite being a keen tooth brusher (compared to friends who didn't bother but still had s full set) I put it down to genetics as my Dad had no next to no teeth by his 20's Sad.
