To ask how many teeth you have?

I've got 28 teeth. My wisdom teeth came through at age 18-ish, then I have 3 more molars (on each side top and bottom), then a canine, then 2 incisors at the front. Totalling 28. But I've just read that adults generally have 32. Why am I missing some teeth? A diagram shows 4 molars, not 3. I have no gaps and have never had any teeth removed!

I hadn't counted before now, but just checked and I have 32, so the full set by the sounds of it.
It's a bit crowded in there to be fair. I did suffer when my wisdom teeth came through (very slowly over about 10 years) but never went to the dentist about them. I had a phobia which meant I didn't go at all between the ages of 16 and 34 Blush
If I had gone they would have probably whipped them but ultimately it's been fine.

DeltaSunrise · 27/03/2016 03:34

2 teeth removed when I had my braces.

Never had wisdom teeth.

LifeofI · 27/03/2016 03:35

i have 31!

soontobemrsmckeown · 27/03/2016 08:19

27 soon to be 25 due to jaw surgery and two braces in my life.

ethelb · 27/03/2016 08:45

Um, 34. Two not fully emerged wisdom tooth. My mouth is very small and crowded. No fucking wonder Hmm

Im a bit pissed off no dentist has mentioned it.

RoseDog · 27/03/2016 08:51

27 and a half soon to be 27! 2 fillings, 2 teeth removed for braces as a teen, 2 wisdom teeth never came through but they are lying under the gum as I see them on X-rays!

magpie17 · 27/03/2016 08:54

I've got 32. My wisdom teeth also came in at 18, they caused no problems so I never needed them removed. The dentist described me as having a 'full set' of teeth...

Cockadoodledooo · 27/03/2016 08:54
  1. I have 3 wisdom teeth, I won't be getting a 4th - nothing there on the x-ray. The other one is missing because it exploded when eating a Twix whilst pregnant so the dentist removed the remains. Technically maybe 29, because my two front teeth are crowns and so only half my own!
MsJamieFraser · 27/03/2016 08:57

25, no wisdom teeth as they haven't come through yet, they are there but no teeth come through the gums...

HixieRice · 27/03/2016 08:59

31, but I've had at least 2 removed Confused

millionsofpeaches · 27/03/2016 09:05

I'm very confused! I have 28 teeth like many other posters, but I had my top adult canines removed when I was 12 as they were rowing out at right-angles to my gum. I was also told by the dentist after an X-ray that I would never have any wisdom teeth as there simply weren't any there. So do I actually have 2 wisdom teeth despite what the dentist said? not evolutionarily advanced after all

DisappointedOne · 27/03/2016 09:24

28 - no wisdom teeth because I'm evolutionarily more developed

23 - I've no pre-molars either. Never had any adult teeth removed and 1 tooth is a milk tooth because there was never anything to replace it.

PestilentialCat · 27/03/2016 09:30

I have 28 and a quarter Grin

Only one of my wisdom teeth erupted (no more lurking according to x-rays) & only one cusp of that Grin

Blueberry234 · 27/03/2016 09:34

25 wisdom teeth not yet down had a couple removed due to roots resorbing

Juanbablo · 27/03/2016 09:34
  1. I had one removed about 7 years ago and I have one wisdom tooth almost through.
BendydickCuminsnatch · 27/03/2016 09:36

I've got 30. Had 2 molars removed as they were hypoplastic. Had all my wisdom teeth by the age of 15!!!!

Tfoot75 · 27/03/2016 09:37

28, no wisdom teeth here which I've inherited.

How do these points on evolution work? Can't see that there's any link between number of teeth and reaching childbearing age so how would people with fewer teeth have an evolutionary advantage? Not sure the attractiveness point really works in practise, I know plenty of people with buck teeth etc that have managed to breed!! Would be interested to read anything scientific on this!

JeVoudrais · 27/03/2016 09:45
  1. Currently no space for wisdoms as I wear retainers to stop them pushing through and shunting my other teeth out of their current places. Technically I suppose I have 32. But the last four haven't erupted.
StarlingMurmuration · 27/03/2016 09:50

It's more to do with mate-selection, than reaching breeding age. In theory, people with flatter faces are more attractive so more likely to breed successfully. Fewer teeth in theory = flatter faces.

MadameJosephine · 27/03/2016 09:57

25, I had 4 removed due to overcrowding and at the grand old age of 44 I still only have one wisdom tooth, no sign of the others yetq

JamieVardysParty · 27/03/2016 09:57

25 - four wisdom teeth removed and three before my brace including one on the bottom right in the middle.

That gap was embarrassing on school photo day at 14.

DH has 27 and a half. All his wisdom teeth out but he still has a baby tooth where one of his adult teeth didn't come through.

He also had loads of supernumeraries removed as a teenager.

Lightbulbon · 27/03/2016 10:22

27 plus a partially erupted wisdom tooth.

Another wisdom tooth has never shown signs of ever appearing.

Mine didn't come in til my late 20s/early 30s.

I had a few removed for braces when 13. Annoyed actually as it has left top & bottom uneven and an underbite.

I get embarrassed when I smile because you can see the missing teeth even though there isn't a gap.

Wish they removed the wisdom teeth instead. I'd rather have my pre molars!!!

wishes I could sue the orthodontist

tinyterrors · 27/03/2016 10:35

I've got 27. I had 3 removed for braces and my top wisdom teeth never came through. It's a good thing they never come through though, two of the teeth removed for braces were on the top and there are no gaps now and my teeth go all the way to the back of my jaw, there's no way two more teeth would fit without undoing all the work the braces did.

NotSpartacus · 27/03/2016 10:45

32, although my wisdom teeth are a bit like normal molars ( ie they are not massive and I think their roots are small too).
