To be fuming over DD missing out attendance prize

DD has had 1.5 hours time off after she was physically sick in school despite telling them do not give her eggs as she has a food tolerance to egg. She is fine with things containing eggs but when having whole egg her stomach can't cope with it making her vomit I. Which the school did for a food tasting lesson.

So because of there mistake DD didn't have 100% attendance, hence missing out the prize.

I don't understand this obsession with attendance prizes and treats. Why don't you buy her a treat if it's so important?

However, I would definitely be taking up the issue of them feeding her something she is essentially allergic to. What if she had an anaphylactic reaction?

I will do but can't do anything to January 5th.

DD is only 6 and she is such a good girl. Listens and does what is asked in school to the point she is a prefect.

I did take her out for ice cream and and a little treat for being so good in school which made her feel better, but she was very upset coming out of school.

It's a food intolerance, it will make her unwell but it's different from an allergy as it will never be life threatening.

The school has been very careful since. It was just a mistake

Would definitely be a lot more concerned about the school feeding DD something she is allergic to than the prize. They can be rubbish. A friend's DD was fed milk at nursery recently (she's intolerant) and she was poorly for a week. Muppets!

It was fortunate for DD it was on a Thursday in which Friday was teachers training so was recovered by the Monday.

mine misses out all the time they get photos put up on the wall ds is not on them they get postcards sent home ds does not get one yet his attendance is 100% they tried to tell me once he had time off as he wasn't on the register as being there one day i asked them where he had been because i drop my six year old ds off every day at their school then they said it was a failure to record him properly he still has had no postcard or photo on the wall

meh ive got him used to it by now

I hate attendance award with a passion.

Ds who is older has a lot of hospital appointments. It means he needs at least 1 afternoon a month off so it never going to be a time he will get an award.

However this seems cruel

A prize? Why would you get a prize? Don't they just get a piece of paper saying 'congratulations' on it? Confused

I fucking loathe school attendance shitey rules. No child should get a prize for being in perfect health all term as the reverse (penalising a child unfortunate enough to have been unwell) is just unpleasant IMO.

My DS has been graded a B this term for attendance. He has type 1 diabetes which means a couple of hospital appointments each term and if he does get a sickness bug our focus is on controlling his blood sugars well enough to keep him out of hospital, not on getting him back to school so he can get an A* for attendance.

So I'd say don't give it another thought, although I understand why you feel angry.

Attendance award ? I am thankful I live in a place that this sort of thing has not reached. Whether a child gets sick or not is utterly beyond their control. I can't imagine judging them for it either way. Ghastly. Is this sort of thing normal?

However OP I would be complaining about that.

Lay off the op. For a little kid, this is a big deal and as a parent it's horrible to see your child upset. I'm looking forward to the day my child is old enough to see that things like star of the week or attendance awards are bollocks.

Attendance awards are against the Equality Act. You should be fuming about them in general not just because your DD missed out. They are discriminatory and cruel to all children with chronic illness, SN and disabilities.

I can't see how she missed registration in the morning or afternoon if she was only absent for 1.5 hours? Do you have a really short afternoon session maybe?

I don't give a shiny shit about a cheap pencil or sparkling rubber.

What I care about is my child being upset over a something that was out of her control.

The fact that ATM I am skint and had to go to saving account ( which we never touch as its saving to put a deposit on a house) to cheer DD up. Is another thing I'm angry about

Isn't sometimes having to deal with feelings like disappointment just part of life?

Deciding to buy something to make up for it was down to you really. I'm sure with Christmas round the corner she'd have been easily distracted and gotten over it.

I don't get attendance prizes. Am guessing kids who get them are the ones who spread the germs and make everybody else sick. Other children stay off sick to get better and contain the germs. Or the ones getting the prizes are amazingly healthy and lucky, and get a prize for being so, and the ones who are sick and bloody unlucky and get a letter sent home. Confused

My dd (rec) has just asked me why she didn't get a certificate (as she wasn't off sick at all this term). The only reason I can think, is when I collected her and her brother early (2.20pm) to go to his music exam in the city centre. I am quite annoyed about it - AIBU???!

Why have attendance prizes? Surely they are only doing what they should be doing - attending? DS had 100% attendance for 8 out of 13 years schooling, missed no more than three days in any other year apart from county sports matches and music exams but we never expected a pat on the back. As it happens, he did receive a certificate at the end of the year but it certainly wasn't a 'carrot'.
