To begrudge buying new bed linen every few months?

I usually spend about £25 for a duvet set, maybe £10 for a sheet. Within about 6 weeks the sheets go bobbly or the stitching comes open at the edges of the duvets and sheet.

Am I buying cheap crap?! If anybody could advise somewhere to buy decent bedding that would be great

I've got cheap sainsburys bedding. It's lasted almost 10yrs.

Are you washing yours weekly at a high temp or something?

I've got bedding that I've had for years and years. It's not perfect, but not totally rubbish, and some of that was bought in Lidl or Aldi about 9 years ago! Do you wash it a lot?

Drunken mill has quality bedding at ok prices.

I buy a lot of our bedding at Dunelm and it's fine. However, we've got some Asda sheets that are about 5 years old, washed weekly at 60 degrees and don't have a bobble on them.

Ours is TK Maxx, high thread count stuff for £30ish - had it for years.
Washed every 10 days(ish) No issues with them yet.

I have a duvet on DCs bed that I took to uni over 30 years ago....I also have, on my bed, a duvet cover that I bought in 1994. Both were bought in a John Lewis type store.

I think buy the best quality you can afford if you want it to last.

That said, my kids fitted sheets are from Asda...they seem to last forever.

tk max sheets the best I can find, and laura ashely bed linen, going strong about 6 years now.

How are you washing/drying them? I don't understand why they're not lasting long.

I love my lkea duvet cover but fear after 8 years of use and washing every week (i only have two duvet covers so one on one being washed) it might have reached the end of its life. 6 weeks wow id take it back as not fit for purpose!

OP - I am using bedding we had as a wedding present 23 years ago. It's absolutely fine. What on earth are you doing to yours? New bedding every few months is ridiculous.

You must be, because I have some sets for years, and they're still ok.

I only buy 100% cotton ones though, and they don't tend to bobble. I have had bobbly sheets in the past and the feeling really annoys me. I think they were a 50/50 poly cotton mix.

I usually wait and try and get them in the sales. I'm in Ireland so some shops are different (we have a great place called Dunnes) but Debenhams can be good.

is it polycotton?
I find that bobbles quickly and cannot be washed hot enough to kill dust mites.

There are a few Dunnes' shops in the UK and some of their stuff is great.

In my experience, 50/50 poly mixes do go bobblier (is that a word? It should be) than 100% cotton.

I've had my sheets for at least a decade, weren't cheap but weren't expensive either, they've been washed at 90c every week and haven't fallen to bits yet.

Another thing OP: do you use fabric softener? Not using it might shorten the life of your bedding.

I have low standards on most things but have to buy 100% cotton bedding as can't stand the scratchy bobbliness of poly cotton. I get the cheapest 100% cotton stuff I can from dunelm and ikea, stays perfectly smooth but does wear into holes within a few years.

What material are your sheets?

And is it the same brand?

I have some sheets that my parents were given over 50 years ago as a wedding present that are still going strong.

My favourite ever bed linen is from Hobbs. Not sure they do it anymore though?

I have loads of bedding sets (white and light wood bedroom means I can chuck loads of different colours/patterns on - I think I'm a bit obsessed).

John Lewis stuff is good. Have had some of that for years. However, given rotation delights, my bedding probably isn't used as heavily as some, so not sure if this is a good indicator

If you want smooth sheets that definitely wont bobble they have to be cotton, (and not flannel as that will Bobble). I have some pretty lightweight ones that dry fairly quickly,but inevitably there is a trade-off.

That said i have synthetic blend ones that haven't bobbled as well, but no idea how you would tell in advance?

The only thing I can think of is I tend to buy sets that have quite a lot of embellishment and sewn in strips of silky fabric. My latest duvet set is 50/50 polyester and cotton on the inside and the top is sort of silky. It's always the silky parts that the stitching comes undone on mostly, hmmm.

I wash usually on a 50, is that too high?! I was under the impression that due to dust, dead skin cells and sweat, a high degree wash is best?

I usually replace after the cat has been sick on them for the nth time.

I got mine in Debenhams sale with my birthday money 8 years ago. I only have one set so off in the morning, into the wash and back on at night. They are still perfect. Ds3's cheap Argos ones are bobbly.

50/50 mix and no FS might make a difference.

Anyway, my money's on the 50/50 mix causing the bobbles.

Sorry max i use fabic condition on my sheets etc and all going strong with the ikea cover over 8 years and all the sheets etc donated by my mil and dm over 10 years ago and used at their houses prior to donation to ours.
