Too fat to work..

Huntersmum15 · 18/10/2015 10:56

Slightly controversial for a Sunday morning I know.. But am I the only person who is angered by people who are too fat to work and claiming disability.. Being fat is a choice (I am aware there are many medical conditions that influence a persons weight and obviously this is not a choice) but it angers people that these people are such a drain on the NHS and cost thousands in obesity related illnesses and then claim benefits aswell?

Considering that tax credits are being cut and (according to reports) many children will live in poverty, is it not only just that obesity related disability benefits also be cut too?

AIBU?

yeah, yet another bash the fat people thread Hmm

ginmakesitallok · 18/10/2015 11:00

So should benefits be cut for all "lifestyle" related disability? Yabu.

Also, often people with disabilities are restricted in terms of exercise they can do, so disability can be a causal factor of obesity, how would you intend to differentiate?

ShebaShimmyShake · 18/10/2015 11:02

Please stop reading the Daily Wail. You're embarrassing yourself.

Anniegetyourgun · 18/10/2015 11:02

Before I engage in meaningful debate, could you kindly point me to the official statistics on people who are claiming disability benefit for non-medically caused obesity? You say vaguely "thousands" but what are the actual figures? I've no idea how much of a "thing" this is so it's a little hard to get excited about it in the absence of evidence.

ilovesooty · 18/10/2015 11:02

I think it would be slightly controversial on any day of the week.

TaliZorah · 18/10/2015 11:04

Oh good a fat bashing thread. Not goady at all

abbieanders · 18/10/2015 11:05

I'd say if you're letting a tiny problem like miniscule number of people in this position bother you, you're very lucky. Can we swap problems?

FayKorgasm · 18/10/2015 11:05

Yes we should round up all the fat people who should be easy enough to do what with not being able to hide or run fast and put them in a Zoo where people can view them and perhaps buy a bag of stones to throw at them.

And we can just euthanise all the old folk and their old people crap won't drain the NHS. And anyone with an sti, horny buggers should have worn a condom. And don't get me started on them there teenage mums.

NoahVale · 18/10/2015 11:06

being fat is not a choice
being an alcoholic is also not a choice

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 18/10/2015 11:07

Many conditions are 'lifestyle related' in some way - you can have a car accident, well maybe the NHS shouldn't pay as you shouldn't use a car because they are dangerous; having children is a choice, perhaps all NHS maternity services should be removed; not to mention all tax related funding for the children as they grow up etc) should be removed? Or is it just fat people you hate?

BaldricksTurnip · 18/10/2015 11:07

The Tory government has done a spectacular job of extinguishing any compassion for our fellow humans. Shame on you OP for being such a fucking sheep.

NoahVale · 18/10/2015 11:07

where do you get your ideas from op? noddy land? or daily mail?

Oysterbabe · 18/10/2015 11:08

Do you think these people are happy with their situation and their lives? For many of the seriously obese overeating is as much of a disorder as undereating. Would you tell an anorexic to just eat more?

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 18/10/2015 11:08

YABU. Focus on your own life and your own business, you will be happier for it.

expatinscotland · 18/10/2015 11:10

Here's a newsflash for you, DM reader: all disability benefits have been cut back under the guise of reform. I'm angry about that. The poor, the unemployed, the disabled have born the brunt of cuts for years and continue to do so.

Anniegetyourgun · 18/10/2015 11:10

I was going to offer a Biscuit but OP wouldn't be able to eat it in case... well, you know.

Anniegetyourgun · 18/10/2015 11:11

Can't help feeling I'll be waiting a long time for those stats.

Ihatechoosingnames · 18/10/2015 11:11

Let's just euthanise all the fat people, old people, smokers, people involved in accidents caused by hobbies like football, cars, other sports etc, all the people choosing to give birth on the NHS etc.

Ihatechoosingnames · 18/10/2015 11:11

Oh and let's not forget alcoholics and drug addicts.

AloraRyger · 18/10/2015 11:12

Oh I love a bit of prejudice dressed up as concern for the state of the NHS.

I almost shared why I'm as fat as a whale but you know what? I can't be arsed. Go and fuck yourself.

Birdsgottafly · 18/10/2015 11:13

Well, you'll be happy to hear that "the fattest man in the UK" (Carl Thompson) has died, after begging for help, so there's one less of "them".

"Them" being those with MH/Addiction issues that are visible.

Did you ever watch the documentaries headed by Obesity experts? It certainly doesn't appear so.

Food addiction, when the person is at Obesity level,is the hardest addiction to overcome, every Medical Practioner is asking for this to be taken seriously and addressed properly.

But it's easier (and cheaper) to throw money via benefits at the individual, than set up adequate services.

Bubblesinthesummer · 18/10/2015 11:14

YABVU.

Grow up

AtSea1979 · 18/10/2015 11:14

Well OP, start a goady thread and hide?

Lilithmoon · 18/10/2015 11:14

OP could you provide some evidence for your claims? Specifically the one where you suggest that 'obesity related' benefits won't be cut.

marsybum · 18/10/2015 11:15

Ooooh op im fat and get disability benefits so am I the type of person that annoys you?
pity I spoil your argument by working full time, oh and that pesky autoimmune illness.....
