Too fat to work..

Slightly controversial for a Sunday morning I know.. But am I the only person who is angered by people who are too fat to work and claiming disability.. Being fat is a choice (I am aware there are many medical conditions that influence a persons weight and obviously this is not a choice) but it angers people that these people are such a drain on the NHS and cost thousands in obesity related illnesses and then claim benefits aswell?

Considering that tax credits are being cut and (according to reports) many children will live in poverty, is it not only just that obesity related disability benefits also be cut too?

feelings of self-hatred and disgust I think are better tackled through addressing the behaviour cycles that lead to these feelings

I don't have any scientific data to hand but I am sure that deprivation/poverty,poor education lack of opportunity and lack of familial support networks will be strong contributory factors in many cases.

"I doubt there are many anorexics who are disabled by it, as such."

There are many, many non-functional anorexics in long term hospitals and in the community. I'm surprised you said that actually, especially having been in an ED unit yourself.

^^ all that and Anorexia goes hand-in-hand with depression, anxiety and/or OCD.

wow - I am amazed the number is only 7000 ish. Certainly the rate of very serious physical illnesses that cause obesity is high enough to account for ALL of those 7000.

So we can safely assume that there is no one claiming disability benefit due to deliberately choosing to be fat and lazy (as if anyone would actually choose to be in that sort of pain, discomfort all day everyday).
