Too fat to work..

Huntersmum15 · 18/10/2015 10:56

Slightly controversial for a Sunday morning I know.. But am I the only person who is angered by people who are too fat to work and claiming disability.. Being fat is a choice (I am aware there are many medical conditions that influence a persons weight and obviously this is not a choice) but it angers people that these people are such a drain on the NHS and cost thousands in obesity related illnesses and then claim benefits aswell?

Considering that tax credits are being cut and (according to reports) many children will live in poverty, is it not only just that obesity related disability benefits also be cut too?

AIBU?

so if someone is over weight by alot and cant work due to it. its their fault they should not be greedy control what they are eating bla bla. there us no empathy or understanding... your fat your choice simple....

But then there could be someone who is anorexia but she/he cant work due to it but most people have empathy and understanding. saying that there are probably people that say eat. your choosing not to type words. but i guess thats how the world is. dont men its right of course

TheMummalo · 18/10/2015 16:41

Should they claim assistance through the NHS for conditions they have caused themselves?

Maybe people with Diabetes and Obesity should sue the Government for their low fat/high carb dietary advice Angry

steff13 · 18/10/2015 16:43

How fat do you have to be to be unable to work? I'm a size 26/28, and I work 40-60 hours a week. I have a chronic medical condition - thyroid - but it's never stopped me from working.

thefutureofpolitics · 18/10/2015 16:48

No, I don't think you are being unreasonable. Given that the UK now has the highest obesity rate in Europe, where do we draw the line on who gets benefits for their weight and weight-related problems? Otherwise, we could largely (excuse the pun) just become an island of skiving fatties.

MagicDucky · 18/10/2015 16:53

Katie Hopkins is that you?

ghostspirit · 18/10/2015 16:56

how far does it go. now we are talking about people who are over weight claiming sick type benefits because they are to fat to work. and it should not be allowed because its self inflicted.

the are warning on cigerette packets. does this mean if a smoker gets cancer they should not be treated. should work even when really ill after all they choose to smoke.

ghostspirit · 18/10/2015 16:57

magic that made me laught at the screen... kids looking at me like im mad

Huntersmum15 · 18/10/2015 17:02

Steff13 refer to my original post - I did state about medical conditions that affect a persons weight which is clearly not a choice..

We are a country where people worry too much about being politically correct and tip toe around subjects.. Obesity being a huge one.

So you've given ONE example, OP.

Can we now have your stats that prove your point about all these people who are too fat to work?

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/10/2015 17:13

Steff I'm the same size. In fact I've dropped from a 32. Some days I'm stood on my feet for 13 plus hours. Some days my feet, legs, back, neck, eyeballs are stiff as fuck but that's from not being able to have a proper rest between shifts. Some cheeky fucker (a little gimp, impregnating women left right and centre, claiming benefits and unable to work yet able to spend hours drinking in the club) made a comment to me about my size. He left with a flea in his ear.

Sorry Iliveinalighthouse I've spent the day not on mumsnet letting every little thing wind me up.. Not Katie Hopkins by any means but not some worried that the use of the wrong word may offend...

I think most of you have ignored the fact I stated medical conditions that can aid obesity.. This isn't a choice.

I'm talking about making poor food choices, complaining of the toll it takes on your body, but continuing with that lifestyle.. Vicious cycle.

I am sure if limitations were put into food vouchers meaning you could only purchase fruit, vegetables and meat and not sugary drinks. oven food and chocolates this would be an entirely different discussion.

And here we are: another fat-bashing thread. Congratulations, OP, you got exactly what you wanted.

Lemonfizzypop · 18/10/2015 17:32

I think if you're overweight enough to be signed off work for it then you're gonna be pretty miserable and your life is gonna be a bit shit, why get wound up about it?

Thank you CactusAnnie

I am not targeting people who are obese/fat/ whatever the politically correct term is... And again I state many of you chose to ignore the section where I stated about medical conditions..
