Too fat to work..

Huntersmum15 · 18/10/2015 10:56

Slightly controversial for a Sunday morning I know.. But am I the only person who is angered by people who are too fat to work and claiming disability.. Being fat is a choice (I am aware there are many medical conditions that influence a persons weight and obviously this is not a choice) but it angers people that these people are such a drain on the NHS and cost thousands in obesity related illnesses and then claim benefits aswell?

Considering that tax credits are being cut and (according to reports) many children will live in poverty, is it not only just that obesity related disability benefits also be cut too?

AIBU?

Does anyone think we'll see op again?
Would be interested in a response to some of the points.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 18/10/2015 11:56

I'd think there'd be very few people in this position and those that were "too fat to work" would often have other health challenges whether those are physical disabilities making it difficult to maintain an active lifestyle or mental health challenges which are just as real.
Personally I think there's a lot to be said for generosity and compassion towards others!

Yet another OP who knows they can start a goady thread at the weekend because there's no bugger around to even look at it, never mind delete it, so it will be reported and reported and someone will finally delete it tomorrow sometime.

In the meantime, we're not allowed to point out when a twat is being a twat but people can merrily start threads like this that stay up for hours or days at a time.

StillFrankie · 18/10/2015 12:06

Maybe they are fat because their disability makes it difficult to exercise? Maybe their medication causes weight gain?

There are people who are just fat, I agree, but how do you ID those from those with a medical condition?

greenfolder · 18/10/2015 12:06

Oh do fuck off to the far side of fuck and when you get there fuck off some more.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 18/10/2015 12:06

I see your point Lilac but hopefully whilst it is up some MNers can challenge the assumptions and prejudices behind the post in a useful way?
I suppose the goadiness is annoying though Hmm

LilacSpunkMonkey · 18/10/2015 12:08

I admire your positive take on it Juggling.

I think I'm becoming very jaded with this place lately.

alsmutko · 18/10/2015 12:08

Goady thread or not - most of the comments on here should renew most people's faith in humanity. I particularly like juggling's comment '... I think there's a lot to be said for generosity and compassion towards others'.

WorraLiberty · 18/10/2015 12:10

Does anyone think we'll see op again?

Fat chance Wink

Well, probably not in that nickname anyway.

MN just makes goading far too easy.

Rdoo · 18/10/2015 12:15

On another Forum I follow, if someone creates a thread (particularly on something controversial) and do not return to it they get banned.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 18/10/2015 12:16

Thank you wise friends

Fook off.

Ginkypig · 18/10/2015 12:20

worra

That's what I was going to say.

Ops dropped the fat bomb and ran away but everyone is still carrying on the argument.

Op is getting a nice little thrill from her 1 post apocalypse!

Oh piss off fuck face.

Ps Hunter is a shit name.

WalfordEast · 18/10/2015 12:34

YABU.

Im larger. Ive lost four stone over the last 18 months. Maybe not a big deal to some, but when your battling depression and anxiety and you turn to food to cope, it is for me.

I can loose weight. But that "twat" tattoo on your soul? Well...

elementofsurprise · 18/10/2015 12:34

Would just like to add to the thoughtful voices...

  1. Even anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders (usually a mix of behaviours) are poorly treated on the NHS. I reckon the OP is the type to say anorexics shoud "just eat" too...

  2. Mental health treatment - ditto. Which is also why people like me are claiming quite a lot in disabiity benefits for MH - I have to pay for my treatment privately after the NHS messed me around for several years. This has cost the taxpayer many, many times what it would have done to put me into therapy to start with.

  3. Disability benefits have already been cut. Why do people mention tax credits as if they are the first thing to be cut when others have been suffering for years?

LookAtAllThesePhucksIGive · 18/10/2015 12:37

JustImagine. You're a fecking hero. Seriously. You make such a good point too. Everything you've gone through, all that pain and hurt but people focus on the one flaw you cannot hide or get away from. I get it. I've been there too. Still am there actually.

spanisharmada · 18/10/2015 12:47

JustImagine your story illustrates so clearly what a complex issue it is, nothing at all to do with greed.
It was very brave of you to post. You have nothing to be ashamed of.

Yes, JustImagine is a hero in my book too.
