To say men playing video games is childish?

PampersNotPampered · 16/10/2015 13:21

My DP is the most wonderful person, and the video games don't annoy me to an extent of anger, but they do raise my eyebrow a lot.

DP is only 22 but I think this is still too old to be playing games, although I understand men more than twice his age do. I once asked DP ''aren't you a little old for those?" And his reply was a very calm 'no, it's a stress reliever and my boss plays it too' (his boss is 44 with a wife and 2 DCs).

What cringes me out the most is him swearing and talking to other players over the zombie games etc, who are mores often that not less than half his age or not much older than half his age! Yes, really.

I understand that I'm lucky he's the type to ask 'do you want me to come off this?' And often I just say no darling. This is because I can get on with other things. Even I ask him to come off, he will and you wouldn't have known he even liked playing because he acts so normal once he's off.

My DP is a 'normal' bloke in all aspects apart from the silly video games. I just wish he'd stick to fishing instead lol.

AIBU to say grown men playing video games is a little bit eye brow raising worthy? I understand it is a stress buster, and perhaps I'm just a moody cow and need to be put in my place by fellow MNetters.

Btw, you shouldnt play games in the dark. Not good for the eyes.

You're welcome, Jacob.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/10/2015 20:10

tali my crush was Bashir off DS9. I love that he's Doran Martell now.

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 16/10/2015 20:11

TaliZorahVasNormandy I still do have a huge crush on him Blush. And on the Illusive Man (DH was horrified at my weirdness on that one!)

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 16/10/2015 20:12

PurpleDaisies yes, me too! Definitely mood dependent, sometime Tuvok too Blush

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 20:12

I never watched DS9 but Alexander Siddig is rather lovely looking, Jacob.

2rebecca · 16/10/2015 20:13

I love comic shops but find the actual comics overpriced and boring. I think my son is similar. He went to NY and raved about the number of comic shops there but didn't buy any. I'm too impatient for all the instalments.
I love playing Magic as well but only with people who play at a low level and don't spend a fortune on cards so I feel I'm just being beaten by money. (so I haven't actually played for about 10 years)

RealHuman · 16/10/2015 20:14

Watching Voyager is what made me notice how incredibly sexist TNG was. Two main female characters, and they're an empathic counsellor and a healthcare worker. Thanks. Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 20:14

Mother, he still does it for me. TIM that's a bit weird. But then I find Thane sexy and he's an Alien.

LeftMyRidingCropInTheMortuary · 16/10/2015 20:14

Orange, I'm going on the stereotypes I see on TV! In a jokey sort of "I realise I am BU" sort of way!

I've never met a real life gamer so I wouldn't know what they're like as people. Mainly because I understand they don't go out during the day or speak to daydwellers.

Seriously, lighten up!

PurpleDaisies · 16/10/2015 20:16

I have ds9 on now (cbs action). Bashir definitely my top choice from the ds9 cast. Tuvok crush definitely reasonable too. I don't think I've ever had this conversation in rL.

RealHuman · 16/10/2015 20:19

I was foolish enough to follow the directions for Amnesia: The Dark Descent, which instructed the player to turn off the room lights and wear headphones, to increase immersion.

I not only got my first ever bout of video-game-induced motion sickness, I became so sensitised to the mismatch in motion that almost all FP games (especially those without FOV adjustment and the ability to turn off simulated walking jiggle) now make me feel sick to some extent or another AngrySad

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 16/10/2015 20:20

real so true. And Troi not getting phasers or a proper starfleet uniform till later in the series. After Marina Sirtis repeatedly asked for Troi to be given them.

RealHuman · 16/10/2015 20:20

I need to watch DS9. They show it every so often on CBS Action, I think, but I keep missing the beginning, and I need to see it from start to end, in order.

MustBeLoopy390 · 16/10/2015 20:21

Real Super Mario Galaxy gave me motion sickness Sad haven't yet played Amnesia but have played Outlast which is a fab horror game and it didn't set my motion sickness off, might be one you can play?

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 16/10/2015 20:21

Real yes, that used to grate on my nerves a bit about TNG.

TaliZorahVasNormandy Thane I can see but I am really a Garrus fan. TIM - its his dark charisma, until he goes OTT in ME3.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 20:22

I tried to play FarCry 3. It made my eyes burn. Never before had a game done that.

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 16/10/2015 20:23

Purple likewise, I think I would be looked at like I had two heads!

RealHuman · 16/10/2015 20:23

Thanks, I'll have to add it to my heaving Steam library Grin

I still have PS4 games I haven't finished, too. And DVD boxsets. And saved series on my PVR. And a metre-high pile of paper books I want to read. And an SD card full of unread ebooks on my ereader.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 20:24

You mean when he goes utterly fucking batshit crazy. I love Garrus but he's like a wingman. I have a crush on three of the Quarians. In suits and they get the best voice work.

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 16/10/2015 20:24

I loved Dishonoured, I bought it for DH but snaffled it away from him almost immediately! Grin

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 16/10/2015 20:26

I love Dishonored. Cant wait for number 2 to come out. AC, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Uncharted 4. I cant wait.

2rebecca · 16/10/2015 20:26

I have 211 steam games but that's because my son shares his with me

TheMotherOfHellbeasts · 16/10/2015 20:27

TaliZorahVasNormandy well put Grin. Its his voice, and the brandy, and the cigarettes, and the villain appeal...Yes they do, I thought Claudia Black did an excellent job.

MustBeLoopy390 · 16/10/2015 20:29

Anyone else counting down for Fallout 4? Agree with Uncharted I'm absolutely in love with that series! I still need to finish The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne

PreciousxBane · 16/10/2015 20:30

I'm a librarian by trade and I sat playing Titanfall in my Hobbs tweed frock and teal coloured cardi with lacy scarf this afternoon while my sweet chilli pork was cooking.

Low lighting is best for gaming.

I have COD on order and may collect at the midnight opening, anyone play the beta of it or star wars at all?
