AIBU to think MIL is being a bit creepy?

So, MIL and I don't get on well. But that's ok as we don't see much of each other.
Now DH has asked me what the perfume I was wearing 7 months ago, last time MIL and I met, as she wants it for her birthday.

I said her wanting to smell like me was a bit weird.

He says I'm being irrational and should take it as a compliment.

Verdict please (have name changed as may show DH the thread)...

Oh just tell him what it was.

Hubnut · 11/07/2015 19:39

I don't think it's weird, just means she likes your perfume.

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 11/07/2015 19:39

I agree with your husband.

MIL and I wear the same perfume.

readyforno2 · 11/07/2015 19:39

I think your dh is spot on

humanstain · 11/07/2015 19:39

She doesn't want to smell like you, she wants to smell like a commercially available perfume.

Yabu

Inkspellme · 11/07/2015 19:39

I think you are reading too much into it. she likes your perfume. you see very little if each other so it's not as though it's going to be very noticable. yabu

ungratefulfecker · 11/07/2015 19:39

It's a totally reasonable thing to ask - she liked your perfume. So sue her. YABU.

firesidechat · 11/07/2015 19:40

For a while my grown up daughter and I owned the same perfume. I think I got it first and she admired. I don't think it's that weird.

TurnOverTheTv · 11/07/2015 19:40

You're being odd. What if a fried has asked? Would you tell them?

EponasWildDaughter · 11/07/2015 19:40

I would take it as a compliment. BUT i wouldn't want her having the same perfume as me. Smell is a personal thing and i only have 2 perfumes i ever wear.

TenPinkFairies · 11/07/2015 19:40

Yabu but if it'll ruin the perfume for you then tell dh a different one!

Hissy · 11/07/2015 19:40

Poison...

Or hussy....

Do they still make Tramp?

The idea of your h going into a department store and asking if they sell Tramp, for his mother? Priceless Grin

MrsCs · 11/07/2015 19:40

hmmmm I think you are a bit creepy for your thought process here

NeedsAsockamnesty · 11/07/2015 19:41

Huh yabu.

What on earth is wrong with admiring someone's perfume and wanting some of your own

Iggly · 11/07/2015 19:41

Think rationally for a moment. If someone wanted to know, it would be because they like it.

Maybe she's even trying to be a bit olive-branchy!?

KillmeNow · 11/07/2015 19:41

YABU.
She likes the perfume.

I believe other people may also have this perfume and will at times smell like you. Even some people you may know. This is not creepy.

snowglobemouse · 11/07/2015 19:41

No that's not remotely creepy Confused

saturnvista · 11/07/2015 19:44

I would feel the same as you. But at the same time she may not realise you don't want her to smell like you.

Glitoris · 11/07/2015 19:44

She's not weird, you're irrational. It won't smell exactly the same on her anyway, individual phermones alter the smell slightly.

I'm guessing you won't have needed that namechange after all, this isn't the resounding MN back-up you wanted to show your dh Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 11/07/2015 19:45

You just tell her a different one Confused

ExcuseMyEyebrows · 11/07/2015 19:45

Tell him it was Tweed - smells like cat wee.

Ex-mil used to wear it, along with elnett hairspray which is also perfumed with feline urine.

Hulababy · 11/07/2015 19:45

Not creepy.
She liked the smell of your perfume.
That is all.

Sunny67 · 11/07/2015 19:46

If a friend or work colleague asked about your perfume would you find that creepy?

Thurlow · 11/07/2015 19:46

YABU

She liked the smell. Surely that's why people wear perfume, so other people like the smell?

Really, really not weird.

wigglesrock · 11/07/2015 19:47

Not creepy at all, my mum and sister wore the same perfume for a while.
