AIBU to think MIL is being a bit creepy?

So, MIL and I don't get on well. But that's ok as we don't see much of each other.
Now DH has asked me what the perfume I was wearing 7 months ago, last time MIL and I met, as she wants it for her birthday.

I said her wanting to smell like me was a bit weird.

He says I'm being irrational and should take it as a compliment.

Verdict please (have name changed as may show DH the thread)...

I wouldnt like it, for the reasons named upthread. When my husband is cuddling me, I dont want him to associate that smell with his mum! Smell is very personal.

I would have lied.

Whether it is creepy behaviour depends on the personality of the mil - some mils would genuinely mean nothing negative by it and others would be wanting to tread on your toes. If it was only the perfume she is likely to just like the smell and not have given it deeper thought. If she often copies what you do, then Id be more concerned.

You would expect someone to ask permision to wear the same perfume as you?

This perfume is a mainstream high street shop available one.

You are heard work and not in a good way

Hard obviously

OOoooh Fame on the M Wright show this morning!
~Abbadoo, I bet you're wetting yourself with excitement! Wink

Depends on the background and context. Is she historically competitive with you? If not I would still not want to smell like my MIL tbh. I think smell is a very powerful and evocative thing to some people. I love my perfume and wouldnt want to smell like someone proabably 20yrs my senior and my MIL to boot. Neither would i want my partner to associate my perfume with 'mummy'!

WannaShedthisFatSuit · 13/07/2015 15:31

how odd, i would almost, be delighted if my mil said she liked my perfume!

she doesnt seem to like anything about me, so i would be thrilled!

What did they say about it on the Matthew Wright show? They used someone's post about wearing jeans to their wedding not long ago.

It was about copying someone's 'scent' as they put it.

They quoted Abbaddoo's name and one or two others on this thread. You should check! Some of you may be famous Grin

I'd love it if Matthew Wright said no Armani no punani on TV :)
