...to not shave higher than my knees?

SingingSamosa · 10/06/2015 00:03

I recently told* some of friends, at a group we go to, that when I shave my legs, I only do my big toes my lower legs and occasionally my knees. Apparently this is highly unusual and very odd behaviour on my part! I have very fine and fair hair on my thighs (despite being very dark haired) and so have never felt the need to shave them.

Is this odd and unreasonable behaviour? I'm surely not alone in this?

*it came up randomly in conversation, I didn't just sit there and blurt it out!

Does anyone else want to see sausagechops101 and Ionone meet up and compare notes

ebwy · 10/06/2015 11:57

YABU to think that you should remove any body hair.

Remove what you want to, if you want to. No-one else's opinion matters tbh

WanderWomble · 10/06/2015 12:46

I haven't shaved a bit of my legs since before Christmas.

Mamus · 10/06/2015 13:03

When I do shave my legs, I shave from big toe ankle to hip because I am a very pale skinned woman with very dark, plentiful body hair. Am I a total weirdo to have had thick, dark hair growing down the inside of my thighs and round the back of my knees since I was about 12? Hmmm.

Clarella · 10/06/2015 13:04

I'm the same and have hardly ever gone higher than knees Smile

Clarella · 10/06/2015 13:05

Never done bikini line either, but I guess I'm lucky that it pretty much is a very neat triangle that bikinis cover.

OnlyLovers · 10/06/2015 13:08

Well, on me the dark hair goes up to and around and just above my knees. I think it counts as 'three-quarter leg' on a beauty therapy list.

SlightlyJadedJack · 10/06/2015 13:18

Only do to my knees too. I think once you've shaved above your knees then you have to do it forever more! the hair on my thighs is so fine and barely visible It would be like the equivalent of shaving my face! Grin

Sheitgeist · 10/06/2015 13:23

Not sure how it could possibly be unreasonable to do whatever you want (or not) to your own body. No one else's business.

The expectation that women should have little or no body hair really pisses me off.

Remove what you want. If you want to.

aFullOnMonet · 10/06/2015 13:26

I've never done my thighs, ever. No need. The hair there is soft and light whereas the lower half of my leg hair is a lot coarser and a bit darker (though still quite light).

Shave as little or much as you like but shaving halfway up your shin might look a bit odd

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 10/06/2015 13:36

Am I missing some posts? Who has called anyone abnormal? Confused

Alibabsandthe40Musketeers · 10/06/2015 13:36

I had to start shaving my whole leg when I was about 15, otherwise I couldn't wear shorts or a skirt, the hair is so dark.

Some of the comments on this thread are really ignorant and quite upsetting 'do thighs even get hairy?', as if those of us who suffer with it are some kind of dirty secret. :(

I started having laser treatment this time last year. Full legs, bikini, underarms, forearms, tummy, face. I cannot explain how good it is to walk into a shop and not be thinking 'what can I wear that won't mean I have to spend an hour in the bathroom first?'. I really can't recommend it enough, even if you can only have small areas done - it makes such a difference to day to day life.

Those of you who don't have this problem don't know how lucky you are.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 10/06/2015 13:40

I have enormous thighs. It would take me 3 times as long to do my legs if I shaved them too. I do up to just above my knee, maybe an inch above I think.

I don't even bother doing more if I'll be wearing a swimsuit. If anyone is going to comment on or notice my thighs, it'll be because of the size of them, not the hair.

GaryBaldy · 10/06/2015 13:40

Another hairy beast here.

Dark coarse hair that grows ridiculously quickly.

My legs and arms are as hairy as DHs and my pubes have started to migrate up my bum cheeks and down my thighs.

It is very depressing.

meglet · 10/06/2015 13:48

yy to thighs getting hairy. my stomach was hairy from the age of 14. (tested for pcos, all clear).

i dread to think of the time and money I have spent over the years trying to keep on top of it.

TriJo · 10/06/2015 14:01

I'm a natural blonde - my leg hair is basically translucent. I swim 3-4 times a week but don't shave as often as I should because it just isn't that noticeable.

Rainbunny · 10/06/2015 16:27

I have very fine blonde hair mostly, the only part of my legs with any dark hair are my shins. That said, I do shave above my knees as I play tennis and I do notice even the fine translucent hairs on my thighs.

Now the really serious issue are the hairs that seem to be slowly trying to creep down my legs from the top! Is this an aging thing?

Bunbaker · 11/06/2015 18:46

It's quite simple really. Those of you who have fine blone hairs don't need to bother.

Those of us with dark hair do. End of.

SoupDragon · 11/06/2015 19:30

I find that people who try to end a discussion with the words "end of" are rarely right.

I am dark haired. I don't have to shave above the knee and never have.

GaryBaldy · 11/06/2015 19:43

Soupy is that because the hairs don't show or you choose not to?

I am so envious of those with invisible / non-existent hair.

Bubbles1986 · 11/06/2015 19:57

Even when I shave the dark hairs show through and I have full on pubic hair coverage about 2 inches down my thighs, 3 inches up my tummy and my crack and arse cheeks are covered. I have about 8 regular long hairs on my nipples and 4 on my chin. I also have a permanent 5'oclock shadow. God I'm sexy.

On the plus side keeps me warm in the winter

Gr33dyeggs · 11/06/2015 20:02

I saw a girl in shorts on the bus today with smooth to knee and fine hair above. I admit I thought it looked a bit odd Blush
I shave to just above the clothes line (not much shaving at all in winter!)

Julietee · 11/06/2015 20:14

Yes, can we not go 'yuk' at hairy legs above the knee, please?

Another yeti here - lucky me! And -shock, horror - I have to have my bum waxed. It is man-level hairy. So are the backs of my thighs. So is my lower tummy. So are my nipples, though at least I can pluck those. Actually, on the backs of my thighs the hair helpfully grows both up and down, which makes epilating a rare delight. No wait, the worst bit is inner thigh, which I call my pubic beard. Hurts like fuckery, the skin there must be really sensitive.

I'm about to epilate. Wish me luck.
